CHAPTER SIX

*

*

Aurora called the doctor to inquire about Sammie's health development, and like every other time, she was fed the same piece of information, the drugs were gradually losing their effects, surgery was the ultimate solution to save Sammie's life.

"Are you begging me right now? from your expression, it sure doesn't seem like it!" Cassandra spoke haughtily, staring at Aurora through the rim of her glass of juice.

She knew there was only one reason Aurora would ever approach her, it had to be because of the money, it was time to give her a little taste of medicine.

If Aurora had any other option, she wouldn't be standing in front of one of the people she knew who despised her the most.

It didn't matter how low she had to descend, Sammie's life was the utmost priority.

Even if it meant begging her enemies for mercy, Dr.Jerome had already told her that he could get the attorney to adjust the clause on the contract only if his sister agreed to it.

"Why would I ever want to help you? I get it! It's because you still think we were friends, right? Or maybe it's because you feel I owe you something. After all, your husband became my lover? " She took a pause to glanced at Aurora condescendingly before she continued.

"I told you already right? It isn't my fault if your husband hates your ugly face and awful figure and prefers mine, so I owe you nothing to begin with.

Aurora kept mute to Cassandra's taunts, so long that she would get what she came for, any degradation she could bear. She compressed her cold lips together, of course, since they had deliberately made her sign the contract, there was no chance that Cassandra would ever help her.

"Why are you so brutal? Sammie is only six! You had once treated him like a little brother, isn't it? He even calls you his aunt, and now he's on that sickbed, can't you push your hate aside for me only this time and help him? He's dying!" Her voice cracked, she didn't care if she was pleading or crying anymore.

She was already so exhausted.

Cassandra kept her now empty glass on the table in a delicate manner and straightened to her feet, a look of scorn on her face.

"Push aside my hate? And in case you want to know, I never liked that little brat! I only accommodated him so that I could stay close to you! " Cassandra laughed, the sound was very ugly.

"Staying close to you was the only way I could see and spend time with George! Yes, I hated you! You always get all the good things. I hated it each time you tell me how you both loved each other! You only cared about yourself and never knew your friend was dying slowly, do you know that I cursed your wedding day and happiness? It must have worked which is why you are currently in this condition! George suddenly hates you so much, did you ever wonder why? "

This was a new revelation to Aurora, she had never thought Aurora hated her to the extent of cursing her.

"Poor you, you must still think it's because he thinks you are a misfortune, I think you deserve to know that it's because I told him all about your whorish ways, how you slept with different men and had done several abortions! He believed me so easily, I guess he never really did love you!"

The exposure caught Aurora by surprise, she had never known about this in her three years of marriage to George, she supposed it didn't matter anymore, George believed whatever he had to.

A gasp escaped her mouth when Cassandra marched to where she was standing and tugged at her hand roughly, threatening to dislocate it from her shoulder.

"Why should I think of helping you? You already lost everything, but still, you refused to give me this! The only thing which I've ever craved. " She yanked off Aurora's ring, extending it upwards, she laughed almost crazily.

"You call me cruel? It's clearly you who is vicious! How long will it take you to finally admit defeat, you don't always get all the good things Aurora! Even you will get your own share of bitter moments, just like I had! " Cassandra angrily tossed the ring to a far corner of the spacious living room.

"I will sign the divorce papers! It's what you've always wanted right? You can wear George's ring, I just care about Sammi....." Cassandra's high-pitched laughter cut into Aurora's words.

"The money in exchange for your marriage ring? That's what you wanted to say, is it not right? "

"Yes, I'll sign the divorce papers as well as leave this house. "

Cassandra made a sound with her throat, her expression filled with mock sympathy.

"Always as self-righteous as ever, but I've always taken whatever I wanted myself, I don't want to be with George because of your Charitable act. You already pissed me off so many times, now all I want is to see you suffer! You have always been so pompous right? It's always nice to see you begging and helpless! "

Cassandra returned to her initial position to pour herself another glass of juice.

"Don't blame me, it wouldn't be good, don't forget that you still have to secure your baby...I'm sorry, he's not even yours either, you'll have to give him away as soon as he's born "

Aurora knew she had made a grave mistake, she never should have pleaded with Cassandra in the first place.

These people were too vicious, it was much safer for Sammie in the hospital, he would never get to experience their toxicity.
