C16 The Young Madam Is Not the Same?

On Gu Chi's slender ring finger, there was unexpectedly a ring.

It was a simple design, adorned with small diamonds.

Wasn't this the very ring Su Kexin had bought and tucked away in her vanity drawer?

Caught off guard, Su Kexin stood frozen, momentarily forgetting to take a seat at the dining table. It was Gu Chi who finally looked up at her.

"What's the matter?" Gu Chi asked, his eyes briefly scanning her bare fingers before his eyebrows quirked up. "Where's your wedding ring?"

Su Kexin felt a wave of embarrassment wash over her.

She had thought the ring wasn't quite right for Gu Chi, so she hadn't worn hers around him. But to her surprise, Gu Chi had found the ring she had stashed away and was actually wearing it?

Reluctantly, Su Kexin pulled the ring from her bag and slipped it on, murmuring an apology, "Sorry, I just picked out the style on a whim."

Gu Chi's lips curved into a slight smile. "No worries, it looks great."

At a loss for words, Su Kexin simply sat down and began to focus on her breakfast.

Once they finished, Gu Chi neatly folded the newspaper and suggested casually, "Let me drive you to work."

"There's no need," Su Kexin replied hastily, "I can grab a taxi or hop on the subway."

The thought of her colleagues at the magazine spotting Gu Chi was too much—she'd be devoured by the women there.

"We're quite a distance from the subway station," Gu Chi pointed out with a slight frown, "and taxis are hard to come by."

Su Kexin had indeed noticed this when she moved in; the villas in this affluent area were typically reached by private cars, not taxis or subways.

Checking her watch and seeing time was short, she conceded, "Could you then drop me off at a subway station along your route?"

Gu Chi looked at her, his gaze making her heart race, but he nodded in agreement.

As Su Kexin and Gu Chi approached the entrance, a sleek black Bentley awaited them.

It struck Su Kexin that in her previous encounters with Gu Chi, she had never seen his car. He must have deliberately concealed his status from her.

Su Kexin couldn't help but smile inwardly as she approached the car, where a young man stood waiting. Introducing himself as Yang Zuo, he was Gu Chi's special assistant.

As Yang Zuo opened the car door, Su Kexin wondered how Gu Chi would manage to get in, when suddenly, a metal plate descended from the vehicle, allowing Gu Chi's wheelchair to glide smoothly inside.

Climbing into the car, Su Kexin noticed the interior had been customized to accommodate Gu Chi's wheelchair with a designated space.

Once seated, the car swiftly came to life and made its way to the nearest subway station.

Pulling up beside the bustling subway station, Gu Chi observed the chaotic scene outside through the window, his handsome brows knitting together. "This commute is too inconvenient for you. If you'd prefer not to have me pick you up, I can arrange a car for you."

Su Kexin paused, then quickly responded, "Really, there's no need."

She was well aware that a car meant little to Gu Chi, yet the idea of spending his money still felt odd to her.

Gu Chi's deep gaze grew heavier at Su Kexin's hasty refusal, but he soon spoke again, "I'm not often at the villa. How will you manage to get to work on your own?"

Su Kexin had already considered this during the drive and promptly brandished her phone, "Booking a car service is so convenient these days. I just need to wake up a few minutes earlier. I... I'm going to be late, so I need to go now. Goodbye."

With that, Su Kexin swiftly exited the car.

Inside the vehicle, Gu Chi's eyes followed her retreating figure, a shadow crossing his expression.

Yang Zuo, driving ahead, couldn't contain his curiosity any longer. "Mr. Gu," he ventured, "why do I get the feeling that the Young Madam is not quite the person we had in our reports?"
