I woke up with my head spinning violently, a dizzying tilt as if the room had been turned on its axis. The floor under me was cold concrete, rough and dusty. My wrists hurt. My throat felt like I’d swallowed sand.

It was pitch black except for a sliver of light slicing in from under a door somewhere to my right.
