C30 The Sleeping Tiger

The live-in son-in-law, whom the Xia family members considered utterly worthless, turned out to be the true puppeteer behind Xia Yunsheng's humbling apology visit!

His warning yesterday that the Xia family would pay a price was not an idle threat.

A sheen of cold sweat broke out on Xia Yunsheng's forehead in a flash.

Now, if anyone dared to call Chen Feng useless, Xia Yunsheng would be the first to slap them twice.

Could someone who backed him into a corner, leaving him no choice but to apologize to his granddaughter, really be considered useless?

If that were the case, then wouldn't it imply that the entire Xia family was useless?

No, he was undeniably a sleeping tiger!

For some unknown reason, this tiger had been dormant, tolerating their arrogance and dominance.

But his silence was not out of fear; it was out of disdain.

Does a tiger stoop to acknowledge an insect? Of course not!

Just as humans pay no mind to ants, no matter how bold they may be, they remain mere ants.

And a tiger will always be a tiger.

A chill ran through Xia Yunsheng as he pondered why a tiger like Chen Feng would marry into the Xia family and agree to stay for three years.

Was it possible that Chen Feng had designs on the Xia family's influence, aiming to claim it for himself?

If so, Chen Feng was frighteningly formidable. Possessing astonishing strength and a talent for patience, his cunning ran deeper than an old man who had lived a lifetime.

Xia Yunsheng shuddered at the thought of the Xia family's fate after his passing.

His younger relatives might manage their internal squabbles, but against a demon like Chen Feng, they would surely be outmatched and destroyed.

Worried, Xia Yunsheng couldn't even bring himself to glance at Chen Feng.

Unbeknownst to him, Chen Feng was oblivious to the storm of thoughts his mere expression had triggered in Xia Yunsheng.

If he were aware, Chen Feng would scoff in contempt. Even if someone handed him a minor clan like the Xia family on a silver platter, he wouldn't spare a second glance for such a family.

If it weren't for Xia Mengyao, he would have bid farewell to the Xia family long ago, not lingering a minute more than necessary.

"Dad, what brings you here?" Lin Lan exclaimed, her words escaping before she could catch them. She then realized her nervousness might have led her to misspeak. Xia Yunsheng's visit was undoubtedly to offer an apology. Her question could only serve to embarrass him.

Lin Lan braced herself for Xia Yunsheng's anger, but to her surprise, he simply smiled and said, "I came to check on Mengyao. I heard she's been ill."

"Grandfather, please come in," Xia Mengyao greeted him cheerfully. Ill? She was well aware of her own health. Xia Yunsheng's comment was clearly a diplomatic gesture.

As Xia Yunsheng stepped inside, Xia Qichao and his entourage crowded in behind him, making the small space even more cramped.

Thankfully, Xia Yunsheng was astute. He openly admitted in front of everyone that he shouldn't have believed Xia Hao's rumors and ousted Xia Mengyao from the company. He expressed his hope that Xia Mengyao would forgive past misunderstandings and return to lead the Jade Hill project.

Xia Yunsheng's decisiveness caught Chen Feng off guard. There was no dithering; he resolved the situation with authority.

At this juncture, whether or not an apology was made seemed irrelevant. Xia Yunsheng had clearly shown his willingness to reconcile.

For Chen Feng to press for an apology now would seem unreasonable. Firstly, it would appear overly aggressive, especially since Xia Yunsheng was Xia Mengyao's senior, and demanding an elder to apologize to a younger family member was not quite fitting. Secondly, it could portray Chen Feng as being petty.

Xia Yunsheng's strategy effectively cornered Chen Feng. He had come to the Xia family home, but without offering an apology to Xia Mengyao, he managed to resolve the issue, leaving her with no grounds to decline. She was expected to rejoin the company.

Once Xia Yunsheng received Xia Mengyao's affirmative response, he didn't linger at the house. He promptly departed with his entourage in tow.

After everyone had departed, Lin Lan gazed at Xia Mengyao with a bewildered expression and asked, "Daughter, am I dreaming? Did your grandfather truly entrust you with the Jade Hill project?"

"Mom, you're not dreaming. I really am the project manager for Jade Hill now," Xia Mengyao said, her face lighting up with a smile that had been absent for far too long. She glanced at Chen Feng, and though he hadn't spoken a word today, she knew that her grandfather's decision to hand her the Jade Hill project was entirely due to Chen Feng's influence.

Without Chen Feng, she would probably have been ousted from the Xia family by now, let alone managing Jade Hill.

Lin Lan regarded Chen Feng with newfound respect. In her nearly thirty years as part of the Xia family, she had never felt such pride. The head of the Xia family had personally visited and bestowed a significant responsibility upon her daughter. This event had given her the opportunity to really shine in front of her relatives.

Suddenly, Lin Lan saw Chen Feng in a new light. This man, once deemed worthless, was proving to have more value than she had ever imagined.

Chen Feng, for his part, harbored no desire for recognition. While Xia Mengyao and Lin Lan might have found the task daunting, for him, it was simply a matter of lending a hand where needed.

He believed that after this incident, Xia Qichao and Xia Hao would think twice before attempting any underhanded schemes. Should they dare to try, they would surely find themselves having to contend with him before causing any trouble for Xia Mengyao.

Two days later, Xia Yunsheng hosted a celebratory banquet for Xia Mengyao at the Efoford Hotel and publicly announced that she had officially taken the reins of the Xia family's Jade Hill project.

The announcement piqued the interest of many in Efoford City, especially since the Xia family was the first to partner with Scussa Company in developing Jade Hill.

Xia Mengyao quickly became the center of attention. Word had spread that the Xia family boasted a CEO of stunning beauty, and suddenly, numerous wealthy heirs and young elites took a keen interest in her.

They all expressed a desire to marry Xia Mengyao.

However, the news soon broke that Xia Mengyao had already been married for three years!

Moreover, her husband was a pushover, someone everyone could bully. He's still delivering takeout to this day!

It's the classic case of a rose wedged into a cowpat.

Chen Feng was torn between laughter and tears. He hadn't anticipated that after appointing Xia Mengyao as the head of the project, he would become infamous in Efoford, turning into public enemy number one.

Since taking charge of the Jade Hill project, Xia Mengyao had become noticeably busier, spending nearly every waking hour at the company.

Chen Feng, meanwhile, had found some peace. With Chen Zhong managing Jade Hill affairs, there was no need for him to fret, and Chen Zhennan seemed to have no new schemes, almost as if he had completely forgotten about him.

That day, Xia Mengyao had requested time off and arrived at Chen Feng's bedroom early in the morning.

"Chen Feng, come with me to pick someone up."

"Who?" Chen Feng mumbled, still half-asleep.

"My bestie, Xu Feirong. She's returning to the country today," Xia Mengyao explained.

"Xu Feirong? That wild woman is back?" Chen Feng jolted awake, springing out of bed.

"Hey! Watch it with the 'wild woman.' She's my best friend, you know," Xia Mengyao chided Chen Feng with a playful glare.

Chen Feng let out a wry smile as the image of a haunting figure surfaced in his thoughts.
