However, now the phone in her hand was fully charged. Did he charge it for her? Could he really be that thoughtful?

When the phone rang a second time, Chi Zaozao answered it.

"Zaozao, you finally picked up! If you hadn't answered this time, I was ready to call the police!" The voice on the other end was filled with anger, dissatisfaction, and concern. Despite the loudness, to Zaozao, it felt warm.

"Qiao Mumu, I'm sorry for making you worry. I'm fine, don't worry."

"What exactly happened?" Mumu asked. "Yesterday, we were supposed to meet up, but halfway there, we got a call from Yi Honghong saying you were with her, so we didn't want to bother you. But then..." Later, Honghong returned, but there was no sign of Zaozao. When they asked Honghong, she was evasive and couldn't give a clear answer. They tried calling Zaozao, but couldn't get through. How could they not be worried?

In the end, Honghong said Zaozao had gone home. Mumu knew a bit about Zaozao's situation with the Jiang family, but Honghong had seemed so earnest that Mumu didn't continue searching for Zaozao.

This morning, Mumu went to the Jiang family to look for Zaozao. Their account was the opposite of Honghong's, meaning Zaozao hadn't been home all night.

Where did she go? Mumu tried calling Zaozao again, but just like last night, Zaozao's phone was still off. This was the last call Mumu planned to make to her. If Zaozao didn't pick up this time, Mumu would have to report it to the authorities.

After all Mumu said, Zaozao could only respond with, "Thank you." Yes, thank you, Mumu, for caring so much. It seemed her decision was the right one.

Zaozao studied history in college, a rather niche field. However, she worked diligently over those four years, and upon graduation, she received a recommendation from her professor. Soon, she'd be starting at a research institute.

After graduation, she chose to room with Mumu. Her situation with her family was complicated. She was the child the Jiang family abandoned, more specifically, the child her father, Jiang Tian, abandoned. Zaozao couldn't understand why her father favored sons over daughters. Just because her stepmother gave him a son, he decided he didn't need her anymore. But later, when that woman had a daughter, Zaozao realized it wasn't about preferring sons; it was just her bad luck to be cast aside.

Still, Jiang Tian had some conscience, as he sent her money every year, starting when she began college.

Although all that money was donated to charity.

"What happened? Where did you go last night? Did you run into any trouble?" Mumu was still full of questions.

"Mumu, do you have a crush on me? You're so concerned," Zaozao joked.

"You still have the spirit to joke around. But since you can joke, I guess nothing too serious happened. Actually, I've been meaning to tell you, Yi Honghong isn't as harmless as she seems."
