C15 Are We Really That Close?
Chi Zaozao had a deep appreciation for everything from ancient times, especially architecture and clothing. Among the three villas at Yujiang Villa, only this one closely resembled ancient architectural design, which she... truly adored.
The door was ajar, so Chi Zaozao pushed it open and walked inside. As she entered the grand hall, she noticed that aside from some antique-style furniture, there was no decoration. Her first thought was that it was a shame not to decorate such a large villa more thoroughly.
"You're here?" a voice called from upstairs. Chi Zaozao looked up.
Her gaze unexpectedly met Di Yeming's, and she squinted, not for any particular reason, but because the light above his head was too bright.
She had left in such a rush that morning that she hadn't gotten a good look at Di Yeming's face. Now that she could see clearly, she thought, this guy is ridiculously attractive.
"What, are you mesmerized by me?" Di Yeming teased.
Chi Zaozao took a couple of steps back. When had he come downstairs? "How do you just appear without a word?" she said. "Great, now I'm going to get sick."
Di Yeming raised an eyebrow. "How did we get from me showing up to you getting sick?" he asked, puzzled.
"Do you believe in the soul and spirit?" she asked.
Di Yeming neither confirmed nor denied his belief, simply responding, "Do you?"
"I swear, just now, your sudden appearance scared the life out of me. You know, when someone’s missing a piece of their soul, they’re bound to get sick, right? So, I'm feeling a bit under the weather. How about we call it a day? We can meet up another time and have a proper chat."
Di Yeming chuckled, clearly amused. Instead of continuing with Chi Zaozao's line of thought, he changed the subject, gently running his fingers through her smooth hair. "I heard they saw you at the salon. Were you planning on getting your hair done?"
"How can you change the subject so blatantly?" Chi Zaozao said, taking a couple of steps back.
Looking into Di Yeming's eyes, she realized there was no point in playing dumb if he wasn't going to let her. Clearing her throat, she decided to be direct. "Maybe I wasn't clear the other day, so let me set things straight now. I have no idea how that ridiculous situation happened, but Mr. Di, we’re from different worlds. I'm not asking you to take responsibility or offer compensation. So, let's just leave it at that."
After hearing her out, Di Yeming laughed. "Oh, Chi Zaozao, you're so naive. Did it never occur to you that I might be here to ask you to take responsibility for your actions that night?"
"You!" Zaozao was furious. How could this person be like this? "That night, it was clearly you..."
"Oh? Me? What about me? But it seems like little Zaozao hasn't forgotten. Little Zaozao knows that night was more than just a dream."
"What do you want?"
"I was just thinking, you'd look even prettier with curly hair!"
Wow! How could he change the topic so blatantly?
"Yeming!" Zaozao shouted in anger.
"Okay."
Okay? What was okay about this? She was clearly upset, but Yeming continued, "It's nice to hear you call my name. Stop calling me Mr. Di; it sounds so formal."
Zaozao rolled her eyes at Yeming and said, "Are we that close?"
