C16 We Have Slept Together!
"Have we not slept together and gotten to know each other well enough?"
"Alright, alright, I give up," Chi Zaozao conceded.
The two of them didn't even realize their conversation sounded just like a playful argument between a couple, so familiar and comfortable.
"Is there something you need, or can I go now?" Zaozao said, turning to head for the door. But Di Yeming wasn't about to let her leave. He reached out, gently grasping Zaozao's wrist to stop her. "There is something. Come on, let's sit down and talk it over. Take your time to think it through."
Zaozao turned back to face him, her wrist still in Yeming's hand. She noticed his eyes were indeed unique, but where was the purple she saw that night? Had she not looked closely enough?
Ignoring whatever Yeming wanted to say, Zaozao used her free hand to rest on his shoulder, standing on tiptoe to examine his eyes closely.
Yeming didn't stop her, allowing Zaozao to study his eyes.
"See anything?" Yeming asked.
"I swear they were purple that night," Zaozao replied honestly.
"Haha, so tell me, do you prefer the purple or how they look now?"
Zaozao cleared her throat, standing back on her heels and removing her hand from Yeming's shoulder. It was then she realized that at some point, Yeming had shifted from holding her wrist to holding her hand.
Chi Zaozao tried to pull her hand away from Di Yeming's grip, but it was no use. He wasn't letting go, and her strength was no match for his. She gave up.
"What do you want?" she asked.
Di Yeming released her hand, his usual smile playing on his lips, and took a seat. Zaozao frowned, wondering if they were finally getting to the point. She found a spot and sat down too.
"Oh, right, I'm not great at hosting. Don't mind me. Just a moment," he said, getting up.
In no time, Zaozao saw Di Yeming coming back from the kitchen with a cup of hot milk. He placed it in front of her and said, "Drink it."
Zaozao didn't say a word, but her mind was racing. Did he just heat up milk specifically for her? What was he up to?
"You're Jiang Tian's daughter," Di Yeming stated confidently.
Zaozao, who was about to take a sip, paused, displeased. "You've been investigating me!"
"I'm not investigating you, just getting to know you. I also know that the Jiang family should have been the Chi family, right?"
"What do you mean?" Zaozao asked. Yes, the Jiang family was originally the Chi family. But her mother had married poorly. Jiang Tian, her father, married her mother for the Chi family's assets. In the end, he cheated with the woman Zaozao had called "Auntie." When her mother found out, she died heartbroken, and eventually, the Chi family name was changed to Jiang.
Before starting college, she already knew about these things. With no one to support her—her grandfather and mother were gone, leaving only her grandmother—she felt powerless to even think about revenge.
She had buried this matter deep within her heart, never expecting Di Yeming to uncover it so easily and lay it out before her. Jiang Tian had gone to great lengths to cover it up.
