C14 You Wouldn't Have Found out Just Because of a Few Words Would You?!

When Soong Ruanruan arrived at the Fu family estate once again, Fu Jingchuan was already waiting for her in the hall.

"Your return doesn't mean your mistake is forgiven. If it happens again..." Fu Jingchuan's gaze was icy as he spoke without a hint of mercy, his words carrying a frosty edge.

"Mr. Fu, I truly didn't leave the peanut butter last time," Soong Ruanruan interjected anxiously, unintentionally cutting off Fu Jingchuan mid-sentence.

Her eyes brimmed with sincerity, the dark orbs shimmering as if moistened with light.

Fu Jingchuan's thoughts unexpectedly drifted to the woman who had vanished years ago. Ruanruan, too, had eyes as captivating as the woman before him, seemingly capable of ensnaring one's soul.

"No need for explanations," he snapped back to reality, sneering at his own reaction.

The woman standing before him had dark skin and wore a mask, bearing no resemblance to the stunning Soong Ruanruan.

"Go on up," Fu Jingchuan finally said, granting her permission to ascend the stairs.

Fu Sui had been up since dawn, eagerly anticipating Soong Ruanruan's visit.

"Thank you, Mr. Fu," she replied, her voice suddenly light with a spring in her step that betrayed her delight.

Yet, that very sentence caused Fu Jingchuan's eyes to narrow.

Soong Ruanruan was genuinely pleased; her inflection had risen subtly, echoing her usual tone.

"Wait," he called out, stepping closer to her. "Say that again."

He hadn't misheard that voice...

A jolt of alarm shot through Soong Ruanruan, followed by a wave of regret.

Could he have discovered the truth from just that one sentence?

She bit her lip, swallowed hard, and then, in a lowered voice, repeated, "Okay, Mr. Fu."

The voice was once again low and raspy, leaving Fu Jingchuan questioning whether he had indeed been mistaken before.

His eyes remained fixed on her face, searching for any telltale expression, but she looked back at him with nothing but openness and sincerity, tinged with bewilderment at his behavior.

He rubbed his forehead and let out a weary sigh, "Never mind, go ahead up."

He must have truly lost his mind.

Soong Ruanruan nodded and made her way upstairs. It wasn't until she had turned her back that she allowed herself a long, relieving sigh, though her palms were already slick with nervous sweat.

Soong Ruanruan ascended to Fu Sui's room, where the little guy had been eagerly awaiting her arrival. His eyes sparkled with joy at the sight of her entering, but he composed himself and stood up.

"Dear Sui!" Soong Ruanruan rushed over and enveloped him in a warm embrace. "You gave me such a fright last time."

Fu Sui, still uncomfortable with physical contact, tensed up but didn't pull away. He told her, "I know you didn't put the peanut butter there."

Soong Ruanruan nodded vigorously, holding him even closer. A glint of icy resolve flickered in her eyes.

It was clear who had placed the peanut butter.

But without solid proof, she wouldn't say a word; Fu Jingchuan wouldn't believe her anyway.

The thought of Lo Qing daring to do such a thing troubled her. If she truly became Fu Sui's stepmother, the boy would surely suffer in silence.

As if on cue, Lo Qing appeared.

Surprise flashed in her eyes upon seeing Soong Ruanruan at the Fu family home again. Her eyebrows knitted together as she snapped, "Who gave you permission to come here? You caused Sui so much distress last time! Leave!"

Soong Ruanruan met her gaze with an icy stare of her own. Before she could respond, the little guy at her side stepped forward, his chubby face stern and devoid of emotion. "I did," he declared.

"You weren't invited in," he added, his youthful voice laced with an emerging fierceness. "Leave."
