C17 You Are Really Bold!
Before Soong Ruanruan returned to the operating room, Soong Le'ann had been fortunate enough to be revived. The doctor's rationale was a familiar one: "We need to find a genetic match as soon as possible."
The little girl was wheeled into the ward, tiny and alone in an oversized hospital gown, her complexion pallid, lying there devoid of energy. One look at her daughter, and Soong Ruanruan felt her heart shatter.
She remained at her daughter's bedside all day, too afraid to even blink.
Late into the night, worn out from the day's stress, she was about to stand and pace to stay alert when the little girl stirred, her fingers twitching and her brow furrowing as she murmured, slowly coming to.
"Are you waking up, An An?" Soong Ruanruan's heart leapt with joy as she leaned over. "How do you feel? Are you in pain?"
At her mother's tender question, the little girl's eyes brimmed with tears.
But she didn't want to cause her mother any more worry, so she sniffled hard, her voice soft and raspy with weakness: "Mam, I'm sorry..." for making you worry.
Soong Ruanruan couldn't put into words the agony she felt at that moment; it was as though someone had sliced open her body and plunged a knife into her heart, twisting it without mercy.
After calling the doctor and learning her daughter was not in grave danger, she managed to soothe her back to sleep. But then, unable to contain her emotions any longer, she retreated to the bathroom alone, her eyes, red from holding back tears, finally overflowing.
She bit down on her fingers, desperately trying not to let her sobs be heard.
The following morning, the butler, following Fu Sui's instructions, brought him to the hospital. Upon his arrival, he turned to inform Fu Jingchuan.
Fu Sui, relying on his memory, made his way to Soong Le'ann's ward.
The little girl was asleep, and Soong Ruanruan had dozed off beside the bed.
He furrowed his brow as he picked up a towel and blanket from a nearby chair, stretching on his tiptoes in an attempt to gently cover Soong Ruanruan.
The light sleeper awoke at once and, startled to see Fu Sui, exclaimed, "Dear Sui, what brings you here?!"
"I want to see my sister."
Soong Ruanruan's heart melted. She gently stroked the little one's head and reassured, "She's okay now."
Fu Sui finally relaxed, though he still seemed to be harboring some worries.
Suddenly, the door to the ward burst open, and Fu Jingchuan strode in, bringing with him a chill. His already stoic face was now a mask of utter darkness.
Soong Ruanruan was taken aback, puzzled by his unexpected arrival.
Trailing behind Fu Jingchuan, Lo Qing entered with a slow step, a smirk that bordered on mockery playing on her lips.
A sense of foreboding washed over Soong Ruanruan, and panic set in.
Oh no! Le'ann is still here! I can't let Fu Jingchuan see her!
As Soong Ruanruan was about to subtly shift her position to shield the little girl lying in the bed behind her, Fu Jingchuan spoke with deliberate, icy severity, "Soong Ling, you've got some nerve."
"?" Soong Ruanruan was momentarily at a loss, unsure of what he was implying.
"Without my permission, you took Fu Sui to get tested?" Fu Jingchuan's voice was frigid and laden with barely contained fury, his gaze piercingly cold.
Soong Ruanruan instinctively countered, "I didn't!"
"You didn't?" Fu Jingchuan scoffed, pulling Fu Sui closer and rolling up his sleeve to reveal, "Then what is this, if not a mark from a bone marrow biopsy?"
A glaring puncture wound marred the smooth skin of the small arm.
Seeing the mark, Soong Ruanruan's eyes tightened with distress. She knelt down and tenderly touched the little boy's arm, her voice tinged with bitterness, "Dear Sui, when did this happen?"
Fu Sui tried to withdraw his arm but couldn't. He remained silent.
He had gone to the doctor for the test yesterday while Soong Ruanruan was busy with her makeup. The doctor initially refused, but Fu Sui insisted, claiming he was the brother and stressing the urgency. Left with no other choice, the doctor complied with his request.
