C19 The Shrunken Version of Soong Ruanruan

Lo Qing wasn't the only one taken aback; Fu Jingchuan also furrowed his brow deeply. His son had always been introverted and aloof, much like himself, but he never expected him to stand up for someone else. Especially for a doctor he had only recently met.

Soong Ruanruan's eyes welled up with tears upon hearing her son's words. A warm current flowed through her heart, yet she also felt a twinge of breathlessness.

"Sui, don't be stubborn. These decisions are for your father to make. Besides, you're still young, and donating bone marrow is very painful and frightening. You'll have to endure surgery and spend a long time in bed recovering!" Lo Qing quickly bent down to educate Fu Sui.

"Sister," Fu Sui said, fixing his gaze on Song Anle. After a moment of silence, his hands involuntarily balled into tiny fists. He spoke slowly but with certainty, "Sister will get better."

Looking up at his father, he repeated, "Daddy... I want to do it."

He was still a child, and he knew that without the adults' consent, he had no say. So, he softened his voice.

Fu Jingchuan's eyes narrowed when he heard his son's uncharacteristic plea. What spell had this mother and daughter cast?

He stepped forward and at a glance, recognized the child's face on the bed. His deep eyes instantly tightened. The familiar features were an uncanny, miniature reflection of Soong Ruanruan!

Then he turned to the psychologist, her sallow complexion and coarse skin, paired with her raspy voice, hardly seemed to match the little girl. Could they really be mother and daughter?

Without hesitation, Fu Jingchuan reached out, seized Soong Ruanruan's arm, and whisked her out of the ward. The action took everyone by surprise, and before Soong Ruanruan could react, she found herself involuntarily pulled onto the rooftop.

"Who are you, really?" Fu Jingchuan demanded coldly.

The chilly breeze on the rooftop brought Soong Ruanruan to her senses. If this man discovered her true identity, knew that she had faked her own death and deceived him, she would face his wrath for sure.

After all these years, she might not be certain about everything, but one thing was clear: Fu Jingchuan's cold heart would never change. Above all, she couldn't bear the thought of losing her child.

"Mr. Fu, aren't you asking a question to which you already know the answer? I'm a psychiatrist. You can verify my credentials by checking the hospital records," Soong Ruanruan responded with a professional tone.

Fu Jingchuan had no interest in a drawn-out conversation. He cut to the chase, "Is that child in the hospital room truly your daughter?"

Soong Ruanruan bristled at the question, "There's no need for doubt, Mr. Fu. An An is indeed my daughter, and that's a personal matter. Unless this is about Dear Sui's treatment, I don't believe you have any right to interrogate me."

Gone was the young girl who once shadowed Fu Jingchuan's every move. With a new identity and years behind her, she felt ready to face him.

As expected, his gaze turned icy, a look so intense that few could withstand it for long.

"What is your relationship with Soong Ruanruan?"

Her heart pounded at the direct mention of her name.

She had hoped, perhaps naively, that her death might leave a lasting impression on Fu Jingchuan, a hidden tenderness he couldn't speak of. But now, it seemed he was only capable of a merciless inquiry.

"Just because we share the surname Soong doesn't mean I'm acquainted with someone I've never even heard of," she countered, her voice steady despite the inner turmoil.

"Mr. Fu, could you have mistaken me for someone else? Does Miss Soong... look a lot like me?"

"Not particularly," he replied curtly, then added with a frosty edge, "But your daughter does."

His implication was unmistakable, and Soong Ruanruan was momentarily disarmed.

"Well, that's quite the coincidence. But it's not unheard of for unrelated people to resemble one another."

Fu Jingchuan's expression remained unreadable. "Who is the child's father?"

His aggressive stance caused a flicker of unease in Soong Ruanruan, yet she maintained her composure. "That, Mr. Fu, seems to be none of your concern."

"Can't come up with an answer? Or could it be that you're not the child's biological mother?" Fu Jingchuan's icy gaze roamed her face, as if he could peer into her very soul.

"I am, of course!" Soong Ruanruan replied, her voice tinged with a panic that she could barely conceal under the man's piercing stare.

Then, out of nowhere, a soothing male voice cut through the tension between them.

"An An is mine and Ling's child."
