C2 I Might be Giving Birth to a Child Soon!
The following morning, Fu Jingchuan awoke with a pounding headache, only to find that he was alone.
Clearly, the woman had fled.
The thought of that brazen woman caused his expression to turn grim.
He had always considered Soong Ruanruan to be a docile and compliant companion, perfectly suited for his needs. He had not anticipated such ingratitude!
She had better hope he doesn't find her, for he was determined to make her pay.
His search lasted eight months.
No one knew the hardships Soong Ruanruan faced during those months. She was constantly on the move, disguising herself whenever she went out, terrified of being discovered by Fu Jingchuan.
She was well aware that if she were found, it wouldn't just be the child in her womb at risk, but herself as well.
Her pregnancy was far from easy. It began with severe morning sickness, and as her belly grew larger, sleep became elusive.
Yet, the thought of the child growing inside her made all the suffering seem worthwhile.
One day, craving some fruit, Soong Ruanruan donned a cap and a mask, wrapping herself up tightly before venturing out.
While selecting some tart passion fruit, she was suddenly seized by an intense pain in her abdomen.
The fruit tumbled from her grasp, scattering across the ground.
Soong Ruanruan's face went ashen as she clutched at the nearby fruit stand, her knuckles turning a ghastly shade from the strain.
Onlookers rushed to her aid, asking, "What's wrong? Are you okay?"
With trembling legs and barely able to speak, Soong Ruanruan managed to utter, "I think... I'm going into labor..." She was leaning heavily on the fruit stand, struggling to remain upright.
The crowd around her erupted into a frenzy.
"Quick, call 120!"
Amidst the chaos, Soong Ruanruan's cap was knocked askew. Overwhelmed by pain, she was barely conscious of her surroundings.
The next time she regained clarity, she was on her way to the operating room.
At that moment, her lifelong friend and brother, Ji Yu, hurried over. As she was about to be wheeled into the operating room, he reassured her, "Ruanruan, don't be scared. I'll be right outside."
Soong Ruanruan managed a faint smile.
Ji Yu worked as a doctor at this hospital. Without leveraging his connections, she would never have been able to escape Fu Jingchuan's watchful eye and give birth in a major hospital.
Inside the delivery room, Soong Ruanruan was soaked with sweat, her legs spread wide as she breathed deeply again and again. Yet, she felt her strength ebbing away. Her face was ghostly pale, her dark hair plastered to her cheeks by sweat, and she was nearly at her limit.
But the thought of the child inside her spurred her on. She bit down on her lip so hard it bled, a bright bead of blood emerging.
She had spent the last several months in hiding, all for this moment. She was determined to endure, to not give up, even if it cost her life.
Soong Ruanruan clenched her eyes shut and mustered her remaining strength, her body arching as she cried out.
The sound of a baby's cry allowed Soong Ruanruan to finally relax.
"Good, good, good! One baby is out! There's another one! Keep going! Deep breaths!"
Another one?
Soong Ruanruan gasped for air, her eyes suddenly wide with shock.
Fu Jingchuan's face flashed through her mind.
He was the man every woman coveted.
She had been reluctant to leave him, to let another woman take her place by his side.
But now, it was as if she had let go of everything.
Despair and numbness – that's what she felt.
She wanted nothing else, only for her child to be safe.
Hours later, Soong Ruanruan gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl.
The babies' cries filled the room as Soong Ruanruan lay there, her face drained of color, her trembling fingers gently caressing Dear Sui's delicate skin.
A weary smile crept across her face, her eyes brimming with boundless tenderness.
But at that very moment, the nurse who had gone to share the news hurried back in, her voice filled with urgency. "Dr. Ji sent me to tell you, Mr. Fu's people have arrived!"
