C28 You Can Take It All!

The man swiftly released her hand, keeping a respectful distance with his tall frame, as if his previous gesture had been purely accidental.

Soong Ruanruan was tempted to ask why he had reached out to her, but on second thought, she decided it was best not to indulge her curiosity and risk stirring up trouble.

In reality, Fu Jingchuan had only come downstairs to leave. Yet, when he saw the woman stumble, he instinctively reached out to help.

Despite having dispelled his earlier suspicions as mere illusions, there was something about her eyes that he simply couldn't ignore.

"Mr. Fu, aren't you busy? What brings you here?" Soong Ruanruan asked, smoothly steering the conversation away after expressing her gratitude.

Fu Jingchuan, however, did not respond. Instead, he conveyed a message of indifference with his imposing posture and piercing gaze.

Realizing she may have overstepped, she shifted her approach. "Mr. Fu, despite your busy schedule, you found time to come here. Were you planning to swim with Dear Sui?" There was an unintentional hint of sarcasm in Soong Ruanruan's voice. "But it's getting late. Next time you make a promise to a child, be sure to keep it. Not everyone is as forgiving as Dear Sui, who bears no grudges."

Before she knew it, Soong Ruanruan's words carried a tone of reproach. As Dear Sui's mother, she couldn't help but feel a pang of resentment towards his father's neglect.

Fu Jingchuan's icy gaze sharpened. "Are you lodging a complaint against me?"

Soong Ruanruan snapped back to reality. What was she doing? Had she become too comfortable around him, thinking she had grown closer to Dear Sui?

"Of course not, Mr. Fu. I, as a doctor, have witnessed the care you have for your child," she replied earnestly, though she knew his efforts were not as wholehearted as they could be.

"Therefore, I hope your affection can be felt more profoundly by the child. If you approach it incorrectly, Dear Sui might only perceive the superficial aspects," Soong Ruanruan continued earnestly. "For instance, you could spend the evenings reading picture books with your son or telling him bedtime stories. That might gradually improve his sleep quality."

She couldn't quite picture the scene, no matter how much she tried.

Fu Jingchuan glanced at the natatorium with an unreadable expression while Fu Sui practiced his swimming with proficiency.

After more than ten minutes, the swimming lesson ended. Fu Sui noticed his father's arrival, and a bright light sparkled in his dark eyes.

Soong Ruanruan's heart ached even more for her son.

Though Dear Sui wasn't one to be coddled, it didn't mean he didn't look forward to his parents keeping their promises.

Just then, the phone rang. Soong Ruanruan answered to hear her daughter's sweet voice, "Mam, when will you be back?"

"I'll be back shortly, sorry for making An An wait so long," Soong Ruanruan apologized, feeling a pang of guilt. She had only stayed at the natatorium this long because Ji Yu was at home with her daughter.

"It's okay, Mam has work to do. An An understands." An An chatted briefly with Ji Yu before exclaiming cheerfully, "Mr. Ji said we're going out for a big meal when you get back!"

Upon hearing his little sister's voice, Fu Sui's lips twitched, and for once, he initiated a greeting, "An An."

An An perked up at the sound, "Brother! Is that you? Mam, why are you with Brother?"

Soong Ruanruan had to come clean, "Brother was just having a swimming lesson."

"Then Brother will surely pick it up quickly," the little girl declared confidently, "But why didn't Mam bring An An to see Brother? An An misses him too..."

Soong Ruanruan found herself at a loss for words; the visit had been so unexpected and had taken longer than she thought.

In that moment, Fu Sui's dark gaze met his father's. He wanted to express his desire to see his sister and suggest taking her out for a meal, but the words wouldn't come.

Fu Jingchuan, reading his son's eyes, remained unmoved. The Fu family people believed that to achieve something, one must either speak up or take decisive action.

"Next time, Mam will bring An An to see..." Soong Ruanruan began, trying to soothe her daughter, but she paused as she caught her son's restrained and hesitant look, feeling torn herself.

Otherwise, why not just take my son home? But would Fu Jingchuan agree?

Amidst my hesitation, Fu Sui suddenly spoke up, each word deliberate: "I want to see my sister."

His words were slow, yet there was a certainty to them.

I, Soong Ruanruan, was taken aback.

What a complete expression!

I hadn't expected my son to actually overcome the repression in his heart and dare to truly voice his inner thoughts. For a child grappling with psychological barriers, this was a significant breakthrough!

"Okay!" I agreed without a second thought, my heart brimming with joy. In that moment, all I wanted was to fulfill every wish of my son.

However, as my son's gaze shifted to Fu Jingchuan, I quickly regained my composure.

I had nearly forgotten about the formidable challenge that lay before us!

"Mr. Fu, you previously agreed to let the children socialize. Today, I'd like to take Dear Sui home for a visit. You don't mind, do you?"

"I mind."

As expected, the man's response was as cold and firm as anticipated.

"But allowing Dear Sui to interact more with others could aid his treatment. Moreover, my home is quite peaceful, and there won't be any disturbances for the children," I persisted, trying to convince him.

It had taken so much for my son to express himself. How could his father be so unaccommodating?

Fu Jingchuan looked down at the little one and, as if on a whim, relented: "Fine."

Wait, what does this sudden agreement mean?

I had braced myself for an extensive debate, only to find the situation had turned on a dime. I became instantly wary.

"However, I will make the arrangements," Fu Jingchuan stated, his narrow, profound gaze locking with mine.

My heart raced under his scrutiny, feeling ensnared by an almost imperceptible net, but I steadied myself, clarity returning to my eyes.

"Alright, I trust that Mr. Fu's plans will surely delight Dear Sui."

Regardless, my child's happiness was my top priority. Whatever this man had in mind, he could direct it at me.

Minutes later, I found myself seated in a spacious black car.

Unlike his sister, my son wasn't as vivacious or talkative. The silence in the car was a bit more awkward than last time.

Fu Sui gazed out the window, seemingly searching for something.

"Dear Sui, what are you looking at?"

Soong Ruanruan, noticing his focus, also turned her attention to the swiftly passing landscape outside. But it was just a blur of towering buildings and flickering neon lights—nothing particularly scenic.

Before Fu Sui could respond, Fu Jingchuan unexpectedly commanded, "Stop the car."

As the car door swung open, Soong Ruanruan's bewilderment instantly dissipated.

Apparently, Fu Jingchuan could indeed grasp his son's motives.

On the street side was a children's toy store, brimming with a dizzying array of novel toys.

Fu Sui made a beeline for the plush toys, scanning the selection indecisively.

Which one would his sister prefer? Or did she love them all?

The sales associate, taking note of their attire, recognized them as wealthy or aristocratic and promptly began showcasing various items.

In that moment, Fu Jingchuan and his son shared an unspoken understanding. After a brief glance at the display, he declared, "We'll take everything."

The clerk was astounded.

This was an international brand, where even the most inconspicuous toy could equal an ordinary person's monthly wage. Even affluent families didn't make such impulsive purchases, but this father and son...

Soong Ruanruan nearly facepalmed at the sight. With money, it seemed, one could indeed do as they pleased.

"Wait!" she interjected, halting the clerk's preparations. "Dear Sui, I appreciate that you're buying a gift for An An, but one item will suffice. Buying so much all at once is excessive; my home can't accommodate it all, and it's just wasteful."

Dear Sui's lavish tendencies were clearly a trait picked up from his father!

Fu Sui blinked, not quite grasping the concept. "But it's for my sister. It's not wasteful."

Soong Ruanruan considered her words carefully, "However, An An might grow tired of them. When she finds a toy she truly loves, I'll let Dear Sui know, and then you can buy it for her next time, okay?"

Convinced, Fu Sui nodded tentatively, "Okay."

With the traffic lights in their favor, they swiftly reached Soong Ruanruan's rented apartment.

Upon opening the door, An An, who had been eagerly awaiting their arrival, greeted the trio at the entrance. "Mam! Brother, Uncle, hello!"

The person with the honeyed words greeted each individual warmly, leaving everyone feeling cozy inside.

Upon noticing the man standing behind the young girl, Fu Jingchuan's already aloof demeanor turned even icier.

Dressed in loungewear, Ji Yu appeared more approachable than when he donned his white lab coat at the hospital.
