C30 Mr Fu Please Let Go of Me!
Soong Ruanruan was the last to enter the room, but she was abruptly stopped. "Hey, I'm talking to you. What's your relationship with Mr. Fu?"
Being blatantly ignored by the man had left Soong Feifei feeling deeply humiliated, and she was itching to take out her frustration on this woman.
Yet Soong Ruanruan met the challenge with a cool, detached gaze, responding with a dismissive air, "Miss, we're not acquainted. I see no need to explain myself to you."
The door to the private room closed with a definitive click, leaving Soong Feifei seething, nearly ready to burst in without a second thought.
When was the last time she'd been treated this way?
It was one thing for Fu Jingchuan to dismiss her, but for that unattractive woman to dare do the same?
Fixating on the door number for a good while, Soong Feifei finally managed to collect herself.
She needed to find out what was going on with that little girl first!
Stepping out of the hotel, Soong Feifei called her father's number. As soon as he answered, she cut to the chase, dispensing with any pleasantries.
"Dad, are you absolutely certain that Soong Ruanruan died four years ago?"
Soong's father's voice, weathered with time, carried a note of displeasure. "Feifei, she was your sister. Show some respect for the deceased. Can't you speak more kindly?"
But his admonishment fell on deaf ears; such lectures had long since lost their impact on her.
"Hmph, why should I show her any respect? Not in life, and certainly not now!"
"You!..."
Remembering her mother's counsel not to strain her relationship with her father, Soong Feifei softened her tone slightly. "I just wanted to know if she ever had a fling with some guy and ended up with a child?"
"No!" Soong's father replied irritably. "What's this all about?"
"Just curious," Soong Feifei's haughty tone gave way to a more coquettish one. "By the way, Dad, the film I'm about to start working on will be shot in another province. It's a lengthy schedule, and you wouldn't want your darling daughter to endure hardships there, would you?"
Upon hearing her words, Soong's father knew she was hinting at needing money.
Every phone call home seemed to revolve around asking for money, with genuine concern being almost nonexistent. But what could he do? She was his daughter, after all.
"Just wait a bit until the funds for this project come through."
Soong Feifei was clearly unhappy, yet her voice remained eager. "Okay then, just make sure you remember to transfer the money when it's time. I'm going to hang up now!"
As the line went dead, Soong's father let out a deep sigh, the image of Soong Ruanruan involuntarily coming to mind.
Maybe he shouldn't have...
Meanwhile, on the street, Soong Ruanruan sneezed out of the blue.
"Mam, are you cold?" An An asked with concern.
Soong Ruanruan, holding her daughter, shook her head, "An An, you're very warm, and Mam isn't cold at all."
They had left the hotel by now and were strolling down the street, digesting their meal. Before they knew it, they found themselves in front of an amusement park.
Soong Ruanruan hadn't planned on spending much time with Fu Jingchuan. She intended to leave right after eating, but she couldn't resist her daughter's plea to take the little brother to the amusement park, so she agreed.
To her surprise, Fu Jingchuan raised no objections.
"Dear Sui, have you ever been here before?" Soong Ruanruan asked as she purchased tickets, making small talk with the two children.
Fu Sui nodded.
This revelation took Soong Ruanruan aback; she hadn't pegged Fu Jingchuan as someone who would bring his kids to such a place.
"Brother, are the roller coaster and the haunted house fun?" An An inquired, her curiosity piqued.
She had visited amusement parks several times but had never tried these attractions because her mam had warned they might make her sick.
Fu Sui's lips tightened slightly, as if he found the question challenging.
Suddenly, Soong Ruanruan had an insight. She bent down and asked, "Dear Sui, is it because... whenever you go on these rides, there are no other visitors around?"
As expected, the child nodded.
That was indeed Fu Jingchuan's style – whether at the natatorium or the amusement park, booking the venue for private use was standard practice. No wonder Dear Sui found it hard to answer. Playing all alone, how much joy could there be?
"In the future, if Dear Sui wants to play, feel free to invite Auntie along," Soong Ruanruan said, her heart tinged with sadness as she gently stroked her son's head.
Fu Sui nodded emphatically and grasped An An's tiny hand.
The two children headed off to the merry-go-round. Rainbow balloons and the melodies of children's songs permeated every corner, while the joyful laughter of their peers infused the air with delight.
An An's laughter rang out sweetly, and a subtle smile flickered across Fu Sui's eyes.
How wonderful it would be if the children could always remain this joyful...
"Oh my god, who is that dad? He's incredibly handsome!"
"Looks like that's his son on the merry-go-round. Just look at them, you can tell they're related without even guessing."
"He looks like he's stepped right out of a magazine..."
The whispers around her snapped Soong Ruanruan back to the present.
Looking up, she noticed several onlookers gathered around Fu Jingchuan, with a few even taking out their phones to snap pictures.
Fu Jingchuan was visibly annoyed, yet he kept his cool and refrained from saying anything.
It would be too late once he decided to speak up.
Soong Ruanruan approached and began, "Mr. Fu, I have a small suggestion for Dear Sui—ah!"
Caught off guard by a playful child darting out from a corner, she stumbled backward into the man behind her!
The familiar scent that she had dreamt of for the past four years now filled her senses as Fu Jingchuan firmly grasped her hand.
"Hiss—Mr. Fu, please let go!" Soong Ruanruan, not sure what had set him off, was about to express her gratitude when she felt a painful pinch on her arm.
She looked up to see the man's dark, narrow eyes fixed intently on her. Alarmed, she forcefully pulled away from his grip.
"Thank you... The ride should be over now. Let's go check on the children," Soong Ruanruan said, quickly putting distance between herself and the man as she walked away without looking back.
Sure enough, the ride had ended, and Fu Sui was by An An's side, buying candy-coated chestnuts.
"Mommy likes to eat this," the little girl said with childlike innocence.
Soong Ruanruan felt a pang in her heart. The taste hadn't changed, and it was popular among many, so it probably wasn't anything unique.
She stole a glance at Fu Jingchuan, relieved to see he appeared not to have heard her, his expression as impassive as always.
"An An, it's time to head back. We've spent a long time with your brother today. We'll plan another day soon," Soong Ruanruan said as she picked up the candied chestnuts and lifted her daughter into her arms.
Her instincts warned her not to linger any longer with the man.
"Okay~" The little girl was content with the day's fun and nodded agreeably.
After escorting the mother and daughter back to their apartment, Fu Jingchuan and his son returned to the Fu Mansion.
The Fu Mansion was ablaze with lights, and the butler greeted them at the entrance, "Young Master, Miss Lo has been waiting for quite some time."
Fu Jingchuan's brow creased. After he and Fu Sui entered, Lo Qing immediately rose to her feet.
"Jingchuan, Sui, why are you back so late?"
Fu Jingchuan instructed the butler to take Sui to freshen up, then turned his attention to the woman. "What's the matter?"
Lo Qing's gaze fell. "Can't I come over if there's nothing urgent? Jingchuan, when was the last time we had a meal together? Your aunt mentioned we should visit more often."
He leisurely loosened his tie, his features serene. "Repeating the same thing over and over loses its appeal."
Lo Qing was at a loss for words, her tone still soft. "I'm sorry, I just think you've been too busy lately, wearing yourself out. And you're concerned about Sui's health. Maybe I could accompany Sui to the hospital every day?"
"There's no need."
His refusal was swift and firm. Lo Qing's expression hardened, then she spoke in a subdued voice, "Why? Even if Sui isn't close to me now, I believe that with more time together, he won't keep his distance."
"Are you certain?" Fu Jingchuan arched an eyebrow.
Embarrassment flickered across Lo Qing's face.
She had failed to bond with Fu Sui in four years; more time might not necessarily improve their relationship.
"As long as I put in the effort, I should succeed," the woman persisted.
Fu Jingchuan had no interest in engaging in riddles with her, responding coolly, "Having an assistant to escort him is sufficient."
Upon hearing this, Lo Qing's tone became urgent, "But that's not acceptable. The assistants and butlers are, after all, outsiders. We're different. Sui surely craves... a mother's love."
She tentatively uttered those words, anxiety rising within her.
For four years, the mere mention of that woman's name had been forbidden, as if taboo. Words like "mother's love" and "mom" were avoided in Fu Jingchuan's presence.
But now, if she didn't overcome this hurdle, that unsightly woman might exploit the pretext of treating Fu Sui to concoct even more schemes!
A second later, the man's detached voice filled the living room.
"Show the guests out!"
