C31 Was This Mommy's Kiss?

She knew he disliked the topic, yet she hadn't anticipated his complete lack of courtesy!

"Jingchuan, I..." Lo Qing attempted to speak further, but the man's icy stare silenced her, her newfound bravery vanishing instantly.

She hadn't expected that, even after all these years, Soong Ling's place in Fu Jingchuan's heart remained unchanged.

Collecting herself, Lo Qing's expression turned somber as she apologized, "I'm sorry, I just wanted to give Sui a complete home."

With that, she quickly took her leave.

A complete home...

Fu Jingchuan's gaze deepened, Soong Ling's face unexpectedly coming to mind.

Her background was clear, yet the simpler it seemed, the more likely there were hidden secrets.

Furthermore, she had slipped up today.

"Dad." His son's youthful voice broke through his reverie.

Fu Jingchuan looked at him, signaling him to speak.

After a long pause, the boy finally managed, "Good night."

He didn't wait for Fu Jingchuan's response, instead turning and heading upstairs to his bedroom.

The butler watched in astonishment. Such interactions might seem mundane to other families, but they were a rarity in the Fu household.

As Fu Jingchuan gazed at his son's bedroom door, he was reminded of a woman's suggestion about reading picture books and storytelling to children.

Half an hour later, an additional figure occupied the children's room.

Fu Sui sat on the bed with a book, while Fu Jingchuan perused financial tomes nearby.

It wasn't quite storytime, but it was one of the few moments of warmth they shared.

Then, his phone chimed with a new message: "Brother, good night~ Sleep well today!"

This nightly goodnight was their little ritual, occasionally accompanied by sharing amusing anecdotes from their day. Fu Sui had come to eagerly anticipate these messages from his sister.

"Good night." After sending his reply, Fu Sui put away his phone.

The young boy had been disciplined from an early age. Despite the plethora of gadgets at his disposal, he never succumbed to their allure. Fu Jingchuan, therefore, never imposed restrictions under the pretense that "the child wouldn't understand," as long as it was something that piqued his son's interest.

After a moment of quiet contemplation, Fu Sui clenched his hand and blurted out, "Match."

Fu Jingchuan looked up, meeting his son's resolute gaze. "I want to save my sister."

The look in his eyes seemed to suggest that if Fu Jingchuan disagreed, he would run away from home and disown him as a father.

After a brief silence, Fu Jingchuan spoke with a nonchalant air, "If you're able to."

Fu Sui's eyes sparkled. He certainly could! Hadn't they said the compatibility was very high and that it had been a success?

Yet, the thoughts of a child were often too naive.

The next day, reality struck Fu Sui hard.

Inside the office, the doctor furrowed his brow and spoke with conviction.

"By principle, bone marrow donation is only recommended for individuals nine years old and above. And this is just passing the initial screening; there are still a series of retests and compatibility checks to go through. While we can consider younger matches in exceptional cases, for safety reasons, we do not advise it."

For the time being, An An's condition was stable. If they could find an adult donor within this time frame, the risks would be significantly reduced.

After all, no one wanted to gamble with Young Master Fu's health.

Fu Jingchuan looked at his son, who was frowning, lips pursed, silent, and clearly not in agreement with the suggestion.

Soong Ruanruan, holding the medical records, paused outside the Medical Laboratory Department's office.

Her psychological therapy session had ended for the day. Why was Dear Sui still at the hospital?

Could he be... ill?

A pang of concern hit her, and just as Soong Ruanruan was about to inquire, she overheard Fu Jingchuan's deep voice, "Prepare him for a retest."

The doctor looked up in astonishment. "You mean..."

Chairman Fu, known for his cold demeanor and aloofness, was actually willing to help a little girl with whom he had no ties. Was the gossip he had seen that morning actually true?

Despite his internal questioning, the doctor outlined the retest procedures.

Outside, Soong Ruanruan heard the details of the retest and immediately realized they were clearly for compatibility testing.

She watched the man's imposing figure with mixed emotions, her red lips parting slightly.

I had assumed that Fu Jingchuan would remain steadfast in his refusal to consider a match...

Maybe he didn't dislike her as much as I thought?

"Dr. Soong, the director has requested your presence in his office," a nurse approached to inform her.

Soong Ruanruan paused mid-step and made her way to the director's floor.

Minutes later, within the Psychology Department Director's office, a grave voice echoed.

"Soong, your professional competence is well recognized, and the hospital values your career development highly. Therefore, you can confidently handle the case of the Fu family's Little Young Master. However..."

The director's brow furrowed as he swiveled the computer screen around, adding, "This does not mean that the hospital overlooks the importance of personal medical ethics."

Soong Ruanruan's frown deepened as she glanced at the computer screen, where a bold headline seized her attention – "Shocking! Fu's Chairman spotted on a private outing with a mysterious woman!" A smaller, yet prominent subtitle read, "An undeniable secret relationship between the two!"

A cursory read revealed the insinuation that she, the mysterious woman, had lured Chairman Fu into a private rendezvous.

Yet, this was just the beginning. As the article's readership grew, an anonymous source revealed her identity as a psychologist at the hospital, accusing her of intentional seduction. A strange wave of slander began targeting the hospital, criticizing the employment of a woman with ulterior motives.

The more Soong Ruanruan read, the tighter her brows knitted.

Clearly, this seemed like a deliberate smear campaign, orchestrated by someone purchasing online trolls to not only damage her reputation but also to implicate the hospital.

"The hospital's forum website is currently flooded with inappropriate comments. Although public relations are handling it, you still need to make an official statement to clear up this matter, Soong. This will prevent further misunderstandings and avoid negative repercussions for you personally."

The director's advice was sound. She had only just returned, barely established at the hospital, and now she faced a wave of public condemnation. Clearly, someone was intentionally trying to trip her up.

But who could it be?

She couldn't recall offending anyone in the entertainment industry.

"I'll handle this matter, just give me a little time."

After her discussion with the director, Soong Ruanruan gathered her things and left the hospital. As she exited the elevator, she caught sight of several familiar figures waiting outside the entrance.

"Mommy!" An An stretched out her arms toward her.

The moment Soong Ruanruan saw her daughter, her previous worries evaporated. She picked up An An, planting a kiss on her tender cheek. As she looked down, she noticed Fu Sui watching her.

Her heart swelled with emotion. Without a second thought, she bent down and planted a kiss on her son's forehead as well.

"Dear Sui, be a good boy~"

Fu Sui was taken aback, his cheeks flushing with surprise.

So this was what his mother's kiss felt like? He could have this too.

If Auntie really was his mother...

Suddenly, the atmosphere shifted. Soong Ruanruan sensed something amiss and stopped in her tracks, locking eyes with Fu Jingchuan's icy gaze.
