C41 What a Fuss!
Half an hour later, the car pulled up at the hospital entrance.
Today's schedule indicated that Fu Sui was due for his ongoing psychological therapy. Soong Ruanruan escorted him to the office to prepare the necessary documents and noticed that Fu Jingchuan showed no signs of planning to leave.
Simultaneously, in the broadcast studio of Stars Entertainment, Soong Feifei was engaging enthusiastically with her fans. Despite the support from some fans, numerous online onlookers continued to bombard her with criticism.
"Can we get an explanation for the video incident? You don't plan to just sweep it under the rug, do you? The darling of Stars Entertainment indeed. Bullying a nobody, how skillful of you. And that acting—simply atrocious!"
"Seriously? Celebrities don't have to apologize for their mistakes now?"
Soong Feifei held her composure for quite some time before finally showcasing her acting chops, deftly steering the conversation: "You know, there's something I've been really upset with myself about. I've taken a hard look in the mirror, and yes, it's about the video editing mishap from before."
As she spoke, her expression turned woeful, her eyes brimming with unshed tears.
"I realize my mistake. I'll certainly take this lesson to heart. In the future, I'll be more vigilant when hiring staff to ensure no more editing errors occur."
Yet, she skillfully avoided admitting to any malicious intent in the editing, framing the issue as a mere oversight in judging character.
But the relentless questioning continued in the chat: "Is that so? Then why not release the full recording? What exactly are you trying to hide?"
How exasperating!
Soong Feifei chose to ignore the provocation and pressed on, "Even after deep reflection, I still feel incredibly remorseful. I've attempted to apologize to Dr. Soong in private on multiple occasions, but she has consistently declined to meet with me..."
She paused, a cold smile playing on her lips as she bowed her head.
"That's why today, I want to extend my heartfelt apology to Dr. Soong here, with all of you as my witnesses."
The live broadcast room erupted with excitement.
It was clear that Soong Feifei was willing to set aside her celebrity ego, demonstrating considerable sincerity by inviting public scrutiny of her apology.
As expected, her fans voiced their disapproval.
"Why should we apologize to a nobody? When has our Dear Fei ever been subjected to such an indignity?"
"I've already made it clear that it was the filming crew's mistake. How can we possibly let Dear Fei shoulder this burden?"
The strategy worked wonders. The malicious voices targeting her were soon overwhelmed by her fans' outrage on her behalf, and even bystanders began to question whether they had been part of a cyberbullying mob.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Dr. Soong Ruanruan was about to start treating Fu Sui when she was urgently summoned to the director's office.
The hospital administration couldn't possibly refuse to address the situation.
First, the other party was earnest in their approach. If we declined the call, it would seem petty and lacking in magnanimity.
Second, the issue needed to be resolved once and for all. Otherwise, those uninformed would continue to find reasons to attack our reputation, which could negatively impact the Psychology Department's progress.
After the director laid out the situation, he added, "Of course, if you really don't want to take the call, the hospital will respect your decision."
"Connect? Of course, we'll connect," Dr. Soong Ruanruan said with a slight smile. "Since they're showing such sincerity, it would indeed seem small-minded of us to refuse, wouldn't it?"
Minutes later, Dr. Soong Ruanruan appeared on the live webcast, connecting with Soong Feifei.
"Dr. Soong, you're finally willing to accept my apology!" Soong Feifei blurted out as soon as she saw her, her words heartfelt. "I realize my mistake and I hope you and your esteemed hospital won't hold a grudge and can forgive my oversight!"
What a way to put it.
Dr. Soong Ruanruan, detecting the irony in her words, replied with composure, "Really? It seems to me you still don't understand where you've gone wrong."
Her response triggered a barrage of fan comments on the screen, accusing her of rudeness.
"I do know. I shouldn't have carelessly hired external staff, which led to many misunderstandings. Alas, I've only come to this realization now..." Soong Feifei said, her eyes downcast, adopting a woeful tone.
She had already paid off the filming crew, confident that this woman wouldn't have any evidence to present.
So by playing the victim and staunchly denying any ill intent, she was already halfway to victory.
The number of viewers in the live broadcast room was steadily increasing, with some taking Soong Feifei's side without fully understanding the situation.
Humans are visual creatures, and when comparing the two, it's hard not to feel more sympathy for the more attractive individual.
"Soong Feifei, are you certain you didn't intentionally edit the footage to mislead people?" Soong Ruanruan inquired, her tone even and deliberate.
"Absolutely not!" Soong Feifei appeared utterly distressed on camera. "I have no idea what I've done to offend Dr. Soong to deserve such slander."
In the chat, many viewers began to overwhelmingly side against Soong Ruanruan.
"Dear Fei has already apologized. What more do you want? Don't be unrelenting!"
"Exactly. She wouldn't accept the apology earlier. Could it be that she just wanted Soong Feifei to apologize publicly, to humiliate her? Such malicious intent!"
Outside the office, An An sat in a chair, cupping her cheeks in her hands. "When is Mommy coming out?"
Fu Sui gently patted her head to reassure her.
The two children were getting along exceptionally well. Fu Jingchuan gave them a brief glance and gestured to Zhou Chi to open the door.
No one dared to obstruct Chairman Fu's assistant, so the office door swung open. Inside, Soong Ruanruan sat poised, unfazed by the barrage of criticism from the audience.
"I should be asking you that. As a psychologist, how have I possibly offended you?"
Soong Feifei's face fell. "What nonsense are you spouting?"
"Then why didn't you prepare at all before the broadcast?" Soong Ruanruan fixed her gaze on the person at the other end of the live feed, her voice stern. "Psychology isn't a game. I expected you to take it seriously, but you're clueless and unengaged. Do you even qualify as a co-host for an interview show?"
Soong Feifei was visibly shaken by her adversary's incisive tone, her expression turning rigid.
"I did prepare! Your questions were just too difficult, and your aggressive tone made it impossible to continue with the interview."
Without a complete recording to prove her point, Soong Feifei was left with no solid defense.
Soong Ruanruan remained composed, offering a slight smile. "Are you certain you haven't lied?"
"Absolutely!"
Outside, Soong Le'ann caught sight of her mother and felt at ease. She obediently stood to the side, her gaze fixed on the screen, intrigued by the interaction unfolding in the video.
Fu Jingchuan observed the activity inside the room with detachment. The seated woman's posture was strikingly familiar, mirroring the silhouette of Soong Ruanruan from his memories.
Yet, the sallow complexion glaringly confirmed it wasn't the same person.
In that instant, he found himself absentmindedly stroking his fingertips.
Soong Ruanruan's assertive demeanor swayed many viewers in the live chat, with her fans influencing a shift in sentiment.
"What's the big deal? Dear Fei has apologized. What more do you want? It's true what they say: the more unattractive, the more troublesome."
"There was no need to apologize. Some people just can't take a hint, thinking they're high and mighty because they've cozied up to the Fu family."
Soong Feifei, reading through the stream of supportive comments, couldn't help but scoff. "See, you have to be logical. I've heard your daughter gets along well with the Fu family's young master. What's her name again? An An?"
"Soong Feifei, enough is enough." Soong Ruanruan's gaze turned icy at the mention of her child.
Soong Feifei deliberately steered the conversation towards the child, not satisfied with merely criticizing Soong Ling. She was intent on letting everyone know that this woman had used her child to latch onto the Fu family!
Just then, An An's sweet voice chimed in, "How do you know my name is An An?"
With that, the little girl scurried over to Soong Ruanruan's side, her fair and rosy cheeks appearing on camera.
Upon seeing Soong Feifei in the video, An An's eyes widened. "Huh, is that the auntie who doesn't talk to people?"
