C44 The Adults Are Really Strange!

The following day, An An finally regained consciousness, much to Soong Ruanruan's relief. Once Fu Sui was certain that the little girl was on the mend, he headed home around noon.

"Sui, why have you come back?"

Upon entering, Fu Sui was greeted by the sight of Lo Qing bustling around the kitchen, apron-clad. He regarded her with his usual detachment; such scenes were not new to him.

Despite having a chef, she would insist on meddling in the kitchen, often wasting ingredients and critiquing the chef's techniques. Then, after the chef had finished preparing the meal, she would shamelessly claim the credit for it in front of her father.

Could tossing a couple of scallions into a pot really be considered her handiwork?

Fu Sui had never understood her, maintaining a consistently cool demeanor toward this woman.

"Is An An awake?" This time, Lo Qing seemed genuinely unconcerned about the child's well-being as she removed her apron and approached with a tone full of concern.

Considering her slight show of interest in her sister, Fu Sui responded with a terse, "Yes."

Relieved, Lo Qing exhaled deeply and patted her chest, her face etched with remorse. "Thank goodness... I was so worried I couldn't sleep all night. If anything had happened to An An, I'd never forgive myself."

She looked down, her expression one of sorrow. "Sui, I know you don't like me, but your aunt adores An An. She's so adorable; who wouldn't want to be close to her? It was truly an accident this time. If Dr. Soong agrees to meet with me, I'll go and apologize to An An right away!"

She talked at length, but it seemed to have no effect. Fu Sui sat at the dining table with an impassive face, selectively eating only the meat dishes.

Lo Qing furrowed her brows, recalling that the boy wasn't supposed to have an aversion to eating meat.

"Miss Lo, the Young Master won't be returning for lunch today," the butler informed her after a phone call, dousing her anticipation.

Not coming back again?

She wondered how long it would take before she could share a meal with Fu Jingchuan and start to build a rapport with him.

"Ugh..." Fu Sui fought back the urge to vomit as he forced down a few pieces of meat, but the sensation only grew stronger.

Clamping his mouth shut, he struggled to suppress the rising discomfort and swallow.

He had to eat it!

Eating well would help him bulk up and become stronger. Then, he would meet the necessary criteria. For his sister's sake, he was determined to succeed!

"Little Young Master, what on earth are you doing?" The butler hurried over, stopping the child from shoving more food into his mouth with the chopsticks.

Lo Qing was shocked. "Sui, what's going on?"

Fu Sui scowled, ready to grab the chopsticks back, but the butler retreated a few steps, warning, "Little Young Master, if you keep this up, I'll have no choice but to inform the master. Even if you're trying to improve your health, this is not the way to do it."

Lo Qing pondered the butler's words and had an epiphany.

Could the child be pushing himself to train his body for the sake of matching up with someone?

Fu Sui locked eyes with the butler in a standoff, but eventually, he couldn't bear it any longer. He leaped from his chair and dashed into the restroom.

The butler shook his head in resignation, understanding the Little Young Master's urgency to help someone, but knowing that anorexia needed professional intervention to improve, not self-imposed pressure.

"Sui, are you okay?" Lo Qing asked, standing at the bathroom door.

No response came from inside. She tried to appear nonchalant, but her nails were digging into her palms.

She was convinced that the mother and daughter duo had swayed them. She was determined to uncover the cunning tactics employed by Soong Ling!

After the meal, Lo Qing headed to the hospital.

Upon opening the ward door and seeing Fu Jingchuan inside, a flash of jealousy crossed her eyes, quickly masked by a façade of calm indifference.

"Jingchuan, have you finished work? Why didn't you go home for lunch?"

Fu Jingchuan responded with a terse "Busy."

Only Zhou Chi, observing quietly, knew that the CEO had come straight to the hospital from the office, skipping lunch just to check on An An's condition.

"Hello, Auntie," An An said, leaning against the head of the hospital bed as a visitor arrived. She quickly offered a polite greeting.

Lo Qing's face lit up with a relieved smile as she eagerly approached the child. "An An, how are you feeling? Is there any discomfort?"

"No," the little girl replied, shaking her head in confusion. Why had this auntie suddenly become so affectionate? Adults could be so odd at times.

"It looks like you haven't had a chance to eat yet, have you? I've prepared some food; I hope it's to your liking." Lo Qing, acting as if she knew the room well, took out the lunchboxes she had brought and opened them one by one.

Soong Ruanruan, equally skeptical, had seen Lo Qing's two-faced nature before and found it hard to believe she had genuinely taken a liking to An An. She spoke in a neutral tone, "You all go ahead and eat. I'll get some porridge for An An in a bit."

Anticipating the patient's needs, Lo Qing unveiled the last lunchbox. "The porridge is ready. What flavor would you like, An An? There are several to choose from."

Having been through a series of tests that morning, the little girl was quite hungry, but she first sought her mother's approval. Without an adult's consent, she wouldn't dare to eat food from someone else.

"There's no need to go out and waste time buying food; we shouldn't let the child go hungry." Lo Qing served a bowl of white rice porridge and gently placed it in front of An An, her voice soft and tender. "Go on, eat up."

This was a stark contrast to her previously disdainful demeanor.

Realizing it would be rude to refuse the food now offered to her, Soong Ruanruan accepted the bowl and carefully fed her daughter.

The culinary expertise of the Fu family's chef was, of course, beyond question. The little girl took a sip and immediately exclaimed, "Yummy!"

Ultimately, her daughter's happiness was all that mattered. Seeing the contentment in her child's eyes, Soong Ruanruan's guard dropped slightly, and she thanked Lo Qing with a simple, "Thank you."

"I'm just doing what I should," Lo Qing responded, her head bowed as she nibbled on her lower lip. Looking up with a remorseful expression, she continued, "Dr. Soong, An An, I must apologize to you both again. I failed to properly check An An's condition before buying those flowers. Rest assured, there won't be a repeat of such an oversight."

She paused, her eyes filled with guilt as she looked at An An and asked softly, "Can you forgive Auntie for her carelessness?"

Lo Qing's sincerity was undeniable, especially given her striking beauty, which made her earnest expression all the more convincing.

An An nodded. "Yes! It's okay, Auntie. An An isn't uncomfortable anymore."

Soong Ruanruan pursed her lips, taking in the woman's subtle demeanor before calmly stating, "As long as An An is alright, that's what matters."

Could it be that Lo Qing genuinely cared for An An and had a change of heart?

Just then, Fu Jingchuan's phone rang—it was the butler calling.

He answered and stepped out of the hospital room, his brow furrowing as he listened to the butler's worried voice.

"Young Master, I'm at a loss here. The Little Young Master won't take any advice and insists on eating meat, despite his clear aversion to it..."

Fu Jingchuan's expression hardened. "Put him on the phone!"

After a few seconds, the butler said, "Go ahead, Young Master. Little Young Master is listening."

Getting Fu Sui to speak up seemed unlikely; he was disheartened, unable to stomach meat, and unwilling to utter a word.

Yet, the stern voice that suddenly came through the phone jolted him.

"If you don't eat properly, you can forget about visiting the hospital," Fu Jingchuan declared icily.

Fu Sui struggled to respond, "I've eaten, but I just can't eat anymore."

The man's tone softened slightly, "Eat as you normally do."

Fu Sui was silent, wanting to explain that his usual eating habits wouldn't allow him to grow quickly, but he was also aware that he couldn't get past his aversion to meat. What was he to do?

The butler, feeling sympathetic, chimed in, "Little Young Master, there's no need to rush. Ms Soong is a doctor. Why not speak with her after you've eaten? She might have a solution."

Upon hearing this, Fu Sui's eyes brightened with hope.
