C50 Suddenly One Day She Changed Her Mind
Liu Ke's eyebrows lifted in delight, but he quickly grasped her motive. "Miss Lo, you're quite generous. Surely you're not just looking to help them make their debut, are you?"
A glint flickered in Lo Qing's eyes. "Let's discuss that later. For now, are you in or not?"
"Absolutely, yes!"
Lo Qing swiftly input the number into Liu Ke's phone and urged him to leave posthaste, as Soong Ruanruan had already exited her car and was heading toward the natatorium.
"Dr. Soong, you've finally arrived!" As Soong Ruanruan brushed past Liu Ke, Lo Qing adopted a look of concern. "A talent scout just came looking for An An and nearly frightened her."
Upon hearing this, Soong Ruanruan hastened her steps and entered the natatorium.
Inside, Fu Sui's face was taut with concern as he clutched An An's hand, instructing the staff member, "Next time, stay closer to An An."
The staff member nodded, visibly intimidated. Even as a child, Fu Sui's command was as imposing as his father's!
"An An, are you okay?" Soong Ruanruan asked anxiously, her brow furrowing after Chen Niannian gave her a brief rundown of events.
In recent days, she had encountered media folks wanting to cast her daughter in advertisements. She had declined each offer, and they had respectfully backed off. But none had been as brazen as the one earlier, who had dared to be so aggressive.
"Ah, it's all my fault. I was in the restroom and didn't keep an eye on An An. Otherwise, this wouldn't have happened," Lo Qing said, her voice heavy with guilt.
Just then, a voice resonant with authority asked coldly, "What happened?"
Lo Qing's spirits lifted as she quickly recounted the incident to everyone, eager to prevent any conversation between Fu Jingchuan and Soong Ruanruan.
Fu Jingchuan's brow creased. "Review the surveillance footage."
However, the camera's angle made it impossible to clearly see the face of the man in the cap.
Lo Qing breathed a silent sigh of relief. Luckily, she had stepped outside before speaking with Liu Ke. But Liu Ke was indeed astute, likely having scouted the surveillance locations before deliberately donning the cap to conceal his identity.
After resolving the issue, Soong Ruanruan expressed her gratitude to Chen Niannian and was about to depart from the natatorium with the child when she caught sight of Lo Qing clinging to Fu Jingchuan's arm.
"Jingchuan, it's been ages since we've dined out. How about Dr. Soong takes the kids home and we go for a stroll? We can return later."
Fu Jingchuan didn't look back. "I have a video conference tonight."
Lo Qing's eyes drooped mournfully as she cast a sorrowful glance at Soong Ruanruan.
Soong Ruanruan was at a loss for words. She had no desire to meddle in their affairs.
Unexpectedly, Fu Sui spoke up: "Let's all go."
Lo Qing was taken aback, then hesitated. She had hoped for some alone time with Fu Jingchuan; bringing the child along didn't fit her plans.
Yet, when the child suggested it, Fu Jingchuan paused and, looking down, commanded in a decisive tone, "You pick the restaurant."
And so, they all settled into a private room at the Connor Hotel.
Lo Qing masked her displeasure and chose the seat nearest to Fu Jingchuan, engaging him in light conversation and laughter, though he offered only brief replies.
Soong Ruanruan was preoccupied with chatting to the child, but every so often, she'd steal a glance their way, feeling a twinge of discomfort.
Their proximity was so close, and even though he seemed disinterested in Lo Qing's words, he occasionally responded, which was probably the extent of his patience.
Soong Ruanruan remembered that she and Fu Jingchuan had never openly dined together like this. Their occasional restaurant visits were always secretive, as if they were clandestine lovers.
No, in his eyes, she was indeed nothing more than a mistress.
"Jingchuan, you're traveling for work tomorrow. May I join you?" Lo Qing broached the subject gently. "I understand you're overseeing a music and art project. I have some expertise in that area and might be of assistance."
"There's no need," he dismissed her coolly.
Lo Qing felt her pride sting from the swift rejection and pouted, "I once helped a mentor successfully manage a theater project. Haven't you noticed how much I've improved over the years?"
As she spoke, she suddenly turned to An An. "An An, would you like your auntie to accompany Mr. Fu on his business trip?"
What did this have to do with the child? She was clueless!
Soong Ruanruan's brow furrowed, ready to interject, but her daughter crisply responded, "Mr. Fu doesn't like to be disturbed while he's working."
Lo Qing's expression froze.
The child wasn't wrong; Fu Jingchuan indeed preferred not to have anyone in the room while he was handling official documents.
Soong Ruanruan was taken aback. The last time, Fu Jingchuan had worked in the bedroom. Hadn't that been a disturbance? Yet, she hadn't noticed him being particularly bothered.
The conversation halted abruptly, and any lingering awkwardness was soon diluted by the chatter of the children.
Before long, a waiter came to serve the dishes and accidentally spilled soup on Lo Qing's pristine white skirt.
"Ah!" Lo Qing was on the verge of losing her temper, but considering the company, she softened her tone, "Never mind, it wasn't intentional."
The waiter apologized profusely, while Lo Qing frowned and let out a soft hiss.
The soup wasn't scalding, but it was hot enough to turn Lo Qing's thigh red, clearly indicating a burn. The situation was made worse by her white skirt, now clinging to her skin and revealing more than intended.
"I need to use the restroom," she announced.
As she stood, a neatly tailored long coat was draped over her, concealing her thighs and any hint of allure.
Lo Qing looked back in surprise to hear Fu Jingchuan instruct the waiter, "Bring a new dress."
"Of course!"
As the waiter turned to leave, the man added in a calm tone, "And some burn ointment."
The waiter was inwardly impressed by the thoughtful command. Chairman Fu might appear stern, but he clearly doted on his fiancée. Marrying him would be a stroke of incredible fortune.
With cheeks blushing, Lo Qing said, "I'll head to the restroom now."
Soong Ruanruan had observed the entire exchange, reminded of the rare moments of tenderness Fu Jingchuan had once shown her.
When a typically aloof person shows such care, it's irresistible, especially when that person is Fu Jingchuan.
Soong Ruanruan abruptly stood up. "Excuse me, I need to use the restroom too."
She felt a sudden discomfort in her chest and longed to step outside for some fresh air.
Once everyone had left the private dining room, Fu Jingchuan's attention settled on Soong Ruanruan's untouched plate.
An An murmured to herself, "Huh, why didn't Mam eat the fish tofu today?"
Fu Jingchuan sensed something amiss and asked nonchalantly, "Has she always disliked sweets?"
"No, Mam used to love them," An An replied earnestly. "But for some reason, one day she said her tastes had changed, and she stopped eating them."
As she spoke, the little girl seemed downcast. It had been a long time since anyone had shared a dessert with her, and it was weighing on her mind.
Her tastes had suddenly changed one day...
A complex glint flickered in Fu Jingchuan's eyes.
