C7 Why Did You Put on Makeup?

Fu Jingchuan surveyed the chaotic scene before him and instinctively furrowed his brow, turning his gaze toward his son.

Soong Ruanruan was crouched on the floor, her body tensing abruptly. It had been so long since she'd heard that voice—alien yet achingly familiar, marked by its usual chill and ruthlessness.

Upon seeing Fu Jingchuan burst in, Fu Sui instinctively leaped from the couch, clutching Soong Ruanruan and seeking refuge behind her.

Soong Ruanruan swallowed hard and slowly rose to her feet.

"Who are you?" Fu Jingchuan's eyebrows lifted in surprise as he noticed Fu Sui hiding behind her, then his expression turned stern as he asked in a cold tone.

"I am the psychiatrist here, Soong Ling," Soong Ruanruan replied, avoiding his gaze. She intentionally made her voice lower and raspier.

Soong Ling was an alias she had adopted at the hospital to elude Fu Jingchuan, never anticipating their paths would cross here.

He... surely he couldn't recognize her.

Fu Jingchuan's eyes narrowed as he scrutinized the woman before him. A sudden sense of familiarity surged within him, causing his gaze to intensify with curiosity and a hint of pressure.

Soong Ruanruan felt a cold sweat coming on under his piercing stare. Then, she felt the gentle grasp of small hands on her legs. Looking down, she saw Fu Sui peeking out from behind her, eyeing Fu Jingchuan warily before stating to his father in a measured, indifferent tone, "I don't need to see a doctor."

Those four words shattered Soong Ruanruan's heart.

She knelt down again, stroking his head to soothe him, and whispered gently, "Baby, that's not okay. We need to see a doctor when we're sick, so you can grow up strong and healthy."

As Soong Ruanruan spoke, the urge to cry overwhelmed her, but she fought back the tears threatening to choke her voice.

Why must her two children endure such pain?

Fu Sui bit his lip, remaining silent, but it was clear his demeanor had softened. He stole a covert glance at Fu Jingchuan's stern face and instinctively tightened his grip on Soong Ruanruan's hand.

Fu Jingchuan was astounded.

His son had always been distant, never one to initiate a hug or reach out to hold someone's hand.

Soong Ruanruan took his hand and stood, addressing Fu Jingchuan, "Mr. Fu, may I see the Little Young Master?"

"You?"

Before Fu Jingchuan could respond, a voice from below said, "Okay."

Everyone present, including Doctor Xu and Fu Jingchuan, was taken aback.

Fu Sui, who had always resisted medical attention, had actually consented to this woman's care?

What made her so special that Fu Sui would agree to this?

Fu Jingchuan watched, his son leading another woman by the hand into the office. As he was about to follow, the little boy paused and gave him a look that clearly meant he should not come in.

"…"

Inside the office, Fu Sui faced Soong Ruanruan and finally voiced his question, "Why are you wearing makeup?"

Soong Ruanruan paused, then crouched down, "Do you recognize me?"

Fu Sui nodded, his striking black eyes shining, his expression still reserved. He spoke succinctly, "At the airport."

Soong Ruanruan hadn't anticipated the little boy recognizing her. She let out a wry smile, "I see I couldn't fool even you." She was also secretly concerned that Fu Jingchuan might recognize her.

Her gaze on Fu Sui was filled with tenderness.

This was her son, the one she had reluctantly left behind.

She reached out to caress his face but hesitated, instead offering her pinky finger, "Would you make a pinky promise with your auntie? Keep this a secret, okay? It's just between the two of us, alright?"

Her eyes, though behind makeup, were gentle and serene.

A sudden twinge of emotion hit Fu Sui, and he bowed his head.

If he had a mother, would she be as tender as her? Would she love him just as much?
