C17 The Atmosphere Was Tense
Time seemed to crawl by so slowly that she almost forgot she was still in this century. The past few days had been unusually quiet. She couldn't tell if that twisted man had truly forgotten about her or if he was just plotting new ways to torment her to satisfy his warped mind.
She glanced coldly at the surveillance camera on the ceiling. The thought of that jerk possibly lurking behind it, watching her every move, made her skin crawl.
Physically, she had mostly recovered. She felt confident she could take on four opponents at once. But how could she convince that twisted man to let her out, instead of keeping her locked in this barren room, ignoring her?
Her immediate concern wasn’t where that creep had gone, but how she could escape this prison-like castle. Only by breaking free could she start uncovering her identity. Who was she? Why had she become an item in an underground auction? How did she lose her memory, and why could she only remember her name despite her impressive skills?
Just then, the door suddenly opened, and two expressionless women filed in. Su Ranxi's senses went on high alert. Without a word, the women grabbed her and lifted her up.
This was the moment Su Ranxi had been waiting for. No matter where they were taking her, as long as she had a chance to leave this iron-walled room, she had a shot at escaping.
"Mr. Steward?" As soon as she stepped out of the room, Su Ranxi noticed Mr. Steward standing at the door with a file in his hand, waiting for her.
He gestured for the maids to release her. The two maids hesitated. Sensing their concern, Mr. Steward cleared his throat and spoke calmly, "Let her go. I'll take responsibility if anything happens."
The maids' reaction stemmed from their fear of Muhan, whose temperament was as unpredictable as the weather. One wrong move could change everything. In this castle, he was the king, the one who held the power of life and death over everyone. The maids' fear of the unknown was understandable, and Mr. Steward sympathized with them.
With a sigh, Mr. Steward motioned to Su Ranxi, "Come with me."
Su Ranxi observed that Mr. Steward seemed considerate and understanding towards the staff, which surprised her. She hadn't expected someone like him to be surrounded by reasonable people, making it a rare occurrence.
Mr. Steward led her to a door made of a special kind of metal and knocked. The person who opened it was dressed in white from head to toe, covered completely, with a thick protective mask on their face. They looked like a doctor but not quite, dressed in a peculiar manner. After glancing at Su Ranxi standing at the entrance, they turned and walked back inside.
"Go on in!" the steward said, pointing to a room with an open door.
Su Ranxi glanced at the room. As soon as she stepped forward, a bone-chilling cold hit her, making her shiver instinctively. It had to be at least -4 degrees Fahrenheit in there. Was that jerk trying to freeze her to death? Why else would he have someone lead her to a room that could turn a person into a popsicle? She looked at the steward, hoping to find some clue on his face, but he remained calm and indifferent, leaving her puzzled.
Logically, he had spent a fortune to bring her back, so he wouldn't just kill her off so easily. Even if he did want her dead, it wouldn't be in such a pointless way as freezing her, right?
But why bring her to this kind of room? And the people inside were dressed oddly. Was he conducting some secret human experiment?
Su Ranxi's nerves were stretched to the breaking point. If her suspicion was correct, escaping would be tough, given her abilities and the harsh conditions of the room.
"Why aren't you going in? Are you scared of dying? I thought nothing fazed you," a deep, magnetic voice suddenly came from behind her as she hesitated. It was like a magnet pulling her in. Her body tensed instinctively, and she slowly turned her face to look back.
"If I die like this, wouldn't your ten million dollars be wasted?" Su Ranxi looked defiantly at the man in front of her. He was tall, and even though she was nearly 5'7", she still had to look up to him. Yet, despite this, she refused to submit.
"Ten million dollars might be a lot for some people, but for me, it's not hard to part with. After all, spending that kind of money can create bigger and more valuable things. Why would I hesitate?" Muhan replied with a casual smile. Suddenly, he reached out and grasped her chin, holding her in place as he gazed deeply into her eyes. Her expression was stubborn and unyielding, knowing full well it would provoke him, yet she still wouldn't back down.
Her eyes were as dark as gemstones, like bright stars in the night sky. Her gaze was like the brilliant light of a galaxy, so intense it struck deep into his heart.
His thoughts wavered, as if he saw another pair of azure eyes, and the grip of his hand unconsciously softened.
