C18 I'm Only Human

Sheila's POV

I cleaned my eyes and cleared my throat to look like nothing happened and I was okay.

“ Its open come in. ” I said.

Ben entered and looked all over the room which had nothing to look at.

“So tell me what happened here the day before that you had to move here. ” he asked as soon as he got inside.

“Nothing I just wanted to have an access to the gate every time. ” I said.

“Really? I spoke to mom and asked her about Ali, she said she woke up to him gone. ” he said.

I had turned my face from him all that while but because of what he said I turned to him and answered.

“I don't know what happened either and I am surprised too. ” I said.

“Sarah what happened to your face?” he asked.

“What? didn't you hear my cries earlier?” I asked.

“I think I should stop listening to music all the time and pay attention to what goes on in this house. ” he said.

“That will be your business only. ”

“Did mom do this to you?” he asked.

“who else and why do I see you caring you never cared. ” I said.

“Please don't say that, and why did she do that to you?” he asked.

“College I wanted to go to college, I have waited for you to finish high school and join college, but now you are in your second year so why can't I join? why?” I asked.

I felt bitterness in my throat, I wanted to cry again but held my neck to stop. I didn't want to look vulnerable in front of him.

He sat on the little bed in the room quiet for sometime before speaking.

“Sheila I am sorry I didn't know this was the reason you were still in high school, mom always said..... I guess she was lying. ” he said.

“I don't think she would have told you the truth, she always told me to wait for you and I did but you completed and left me behind. I confronted her and she said she will never let me get into college unless I was ready to pay my fees. ” I lamented.

“Hmmm this is worrying, if she doesn't have a tangible reason then don't worry I will help you. ” he stated firmly.

“What? why? would you? you've never taken my side. ” I questioned him confusedly.

“What ever you've done wrong, this punishment shouldn't be meted on you. I heard you visited the club today, you shouldn't be doing that. Its a wrong place to be. ” he advised.

“But you go there all the time. ” I quipped eyeing him.

“Yes but I am a man I can handle any situation but you can't from now on, you can handle only go with my permission or go with me. ” he stated.

“Ben this isn't you why are you being like this? should I be worried? ” I asked sarcastically.

“Shut up OK? Do you have your certificates with you?” he replied.

“No they are with mom. ” I said.

“OK I will find a way to get them. Now get some sleep but tomorrow you are coming back inside the house. Whatever the reason why you moved here, its not good to stay out here as a lady. ” he said.

“Hmm let's see. ” I said.

“Goodnight. ” he said

I opened the door for him to leave and as soon as he did, I closed the door heavily and locked it. I am not going to open this door again no matter what this night. So I fell onto the bed after removing the heels on my feet not forgetting the pain on my feet for wearing them for the first time ,I felt like singing so I did, I sang and cried till I fell asleep.
