C9 Rachel is missing
Ethan's POV
I stared at the pile of documents on my desk begging for my attention, but I just simply couldn't bring myself to work.
Rachel had been on my mind since in the morning, all I could think of was her.
I so badly wanted to know if she was alright, or at least back from her visit to her family home, but she didn't have a working phone a any longer so I couldn't contact her.
Oh shit, I could just call home.
The moment the idea came to me, I picked up my phone and called Victoria, my house manager.
The old lady was elated when she saw I brought a lady home, she had been with me since I was little, almost like a mother.
She answered in three rings.
" Hello?"
" Yes, Aunt Vicki... Em... I just called to ask, is... is Rachel back at home?" I asked immediately she picked up the phone.
" Mr Wright, I can see you're very worried about Ms Rachel, and am I. She's yet to come back and I don't know how to reach her"Victoria answered me, her tone expressing how worried she was.
"Oh... Did she wear the dress I got for her?". I asked remembering the gift I left on the bed for Rachel.
" Alright, I'll see you when I get home".
" Damn!" I brushed my nearly styled hair with my hands rather roughly, throwing my phone on my desk.
Could Rachel really think of going back to family, or even worse, to David?
I heard the sound of a knock on the door, bringing me out of my thoughts.
I arranged my suit, sitting back at my chair before tending to the person at the door. They knew better to stay at the door even if I don't answer, than to come in depsite knocking several times.
" Come in".
The door opened slightly to reveal Mark, my personal assistant and very good friend.
" It's just you". I sighed resting my head on my chair.
" I just came to check up on you boss, you haven't had anything to eat since morning..." He glanced at the huge pile of papers in front of me with an amused expression.
"... That's one more thing you're yet to do". He joked.
His smile died down when he saw the frustration on my serious face.
" What is it?" Mark asked worriedly taking a seat on the three seater sofa beside my office chair.
I let out a long sigh, pinching the bridge of my nose.
" I'm yet to hear from someone, she ought to be back home by now and it's been almost a day". I complained not wanting to get into details about Rachel.
Mark sat up.
" Is it your mother?" Mark asked surprising me. I thought he was going to say something reasonable.
" No." I rested my back on the chair twirling it.
" It's... It's a lady I met yesterday".
The office was silent, until Mark suddenly burst out in laughter.
" What's so funny? " I asked getting even more frustrated because he was laughing at my frustration.
Mark put out his hands in surrender.
" No... It's just that, I never thought I'll see the day Ethan Wright would be so worried for a girl, ha ha"
I glared at him, shaking my head.
" It's not funny".
"Ok... Ok... I'm all hears. " He said at midst his chuckles.
" She's supposed to be back home by now, but I just called Aunt Victoria and she just confirmed that she's yet to come back".
" I can see you're really serious ". Mark sat up when he heard how serious my voice sounded.
"Doesn't she have a phone? Call her"
I looked at him like he was a fool.
" Seriously, did you think I wouldn't have tried that if I could? Her phone got destroyed". I answered rolling my eyes.
" Hey... I didn't know that. Okay, em... Did you see her this morning before she left, I mean how was her countenance? " Mark asked me.
I fell into deep thoughts.
We had a meeting early in the morning, so I wasn't to see Rachel before she left. But after she answered her grandfather's call, she seemed determined and unmoving, but anything could have happened between the time I left and when she left the house.
" I don't know. But if something went wrong, Aunt Vicki would have told me". I said more to myself than to Mark.
"Wait, did she leave from your house? " Mark asked with his brows raised skeptically at me.
I could tell where he was going.
" Yes, but nothing happened between us. I asked John to take her..."
" Shit... John! "
I could've just called John to ask about her.
" Wait a minute... Let me call John". I picked up my phone which was on the table and dialed John's number.
He answered immediately as if expecting it.
" Where are you and Rachel now? "
" Boss... " I heard the hesitation in his voice and my heart skipped a beat.
Could something had happened to Rachel?
" Ma'am Rachel came out of her family house after being in there for about two hours. She though she tried to hide it from me, I could tell that she had been crying, that she was still crying. "
My hands holding my phone shook.
" Then what happened? ". I asked with shaky breaths.
" Ma... Ma'am... Ma'am Rachel said she wanted to be alone, and when I tried to follow her, she just ran away. I tried to find her, but I couldn't".
I dropped my hand holding the phone down from my ears.
" Ethan... What's wrong?" Mark asked when he noticed my change in expression.
I stood up abruptly from my chair.
" I have to go". I said picking up my jacket from the edge of the my chair where it was and putting it on.
" Ethan, you're scaring me". Mark also stood up waiting for my explanation
" Rachel's missing and I have to find her".
" What do you mean? Is there something else with this Rachel of a girl?"
" You don't understand, I met her yesterday where she was trying to jump off a bridge to end her life. I don't think I'll be able to handle it if she does that again".
If she was crying it meant she was hurt. The Rachel I knew years ago, would never cry unless she really had to. Yesterday was because of her stupid best friend and husband idiocy, but if something else had happened today...
" Take care of the matters in the office. I'll come back as soon as I can."
I gave Mark a respectful nod before walking out of my office.
I had to find Rachel ASAP.
I entered an elevator and pressed button for the underground garage where my car was parked, my heart beating faster every second.
I can't loose Rachel, not again. If I was to lose her now, my heart won't be able to take it, that I was very sure of.
I felt so much pain in my heart when I heard she got engaged to David, but tried to shut everything out, I tried to forget her, I tried to live without her.
I succeeded for a few years, but after finding her again, loosing her was not an option.
I opened my car door, started the car and in a flash, I zoomed off. On the way here I had texted John to send me their last address.
" 22 priggish lane.." I read the address out loud.
Just hold on for me Rachel, I would find you... I whispered in my mind.
