C1 Dont Kill Me
"Grandma, don't blame my sister... She must have just come back from the countryside and hasn't seen such nice things before. That's why she took the hairpin from my room... I wasn't planning to hold it against her, but she went and jumped into the lake herself..."
The sound of sobbing filled the room, and Chi Rongyan, lying there, was bewildered. Wasn't she supposed to have died in an alchemy accident? What was going on now?
Before Rongyan could gather her thoughts, another voice, that of an older woman, spoke up, calm and firm. "Rongyan may have come back from the countryside, but she wouldn't do such a thing. As her sister, you should not jump to conclusions and tarnish her reputation."
At the sound of the older woman's voice, a flood of memories surged into Rongyan's mind. She realized she had indeed died in the explosion. However, it seemed the innate Spirit Spring had preserved a part of her soul, allowing her to traverse time and space and inhabit the body of this thirteen-year-old girl named Chi Rongyan.
The original owner of this body was the third daughter of the Duke Mansion. Her parents had died in battle ten years ago, and she had gone missing the same year, only to be found recently by her grandmother and brought back from the countryside. The person who accused the original owner of stealing was her cousin, Chi Meng'er, who had seen her as a thorn in her side ever since her return.
This time, Chi Meng'er was determined to get rid of the original owner for good. First, she tricked her to the water's edge and pushed her in, then falsely accused her of stealing and attempting suicide out of guilt. It was a vicious plan. If the original owner drowned, Chi Meng'er wouldn't have to lift a finger to achieve her goal. If she survived, her honest and timid nature would likely prevent her from defending herself, leading to a ruined reputation.
But... she had dealt with plenty of manipulative people before, and they all eventually fell at her feet. A mere Chi Meng'er was no match for her.
Forcing a few tears, Chi Rongyan suddenly opened her eyes, a look of terror in them. "No... please, I'll do whatever you say, just don't..."
Chi Meng'er, seeing Rongyan awake, immediately filled her eyes with tears, perfectly playing the role of a worried sister. She rushed to Rongyan's bedside, crying out, "Sister, you're finally awake. If anything had happened to you, I would have... ah!"
Before she could finish, Rongyan suddenly flung her hand away. Smack—smack—two slaps landed on Chi Meng'er's face, leaving her stunned and speechless, the words she had prepared stuck in her throat.
Chi Rongyan caught a glimpse of Chi Meng'er's expression out of the corner of her eye, feeling an unusual sense of satisfaction. This was just a minor lesson! Meng'er's "good fortune" was still to come!
Chi Meng'er, having been slapped twice, finally snapped back to reality. How dare Rongyan!
"Sister, you..." Despite the anger boiling inside her, Meng'er maintained a hurt expression, feigning disbelief as she looked at Rongyan, tears welling up in her eyes. "Sister doesn't blame you, so how could you..."
Already recovered so quickly? Rongyan raised an eyebrow, then fully embraced her dramatic nature.
"Oh! Sister, don't kill me, I'm leaving... don't kill me..."
As soon as these words were spoken, the entire bedroom fell silent. The surrounding servants, who had initially scorned Third Miss for her cowardly behavior after being caught stealing and then for her audacity in hitting Second Miss, couldn't help but shift their gaze to Second Miss after hearing Third Miss's words.
