C14 Apologize
Mo Yi hesitated for a moment on the rooftop. He wasn't sure if he should keep following so late at night. Just as he was undecided, he suddenly saw his master appear in front of him. Xie Xuanmo stood against the wind, glanced at Mo Yi, who immediately understood and melted into the night.
...
Chi Rongyan returned to her room, tidied up a bit, and lay down to sleep. But as soon as she closed her eyes, she heard a faint breathing sound. Instantly, goosebumps covered her skin. Gathering her courage, she opened her eyes and nearly screamed—a man had somehow appeared at her bedside!
"It's me."
Seeing Chi Rongyan trembling and clutching her blanket in the corner, Xie Xuanmo found it amusing. He tossed a paper package to her and said, "I'm here to repay a favor."
Recognizing the man's face, Chi Rongyan finally relaxed. She picked up the package and saw that the herbs inside were of the highest quality, her eyes lighting up instantly.
"Thank you, kind sir..."
Before she could finish her sentence, a gust of wind swept through. The man who had been standing before her vanished once more, leaving Chi Rongyan sitting on her bed in bewilderment—just who was this man?
Late at night, being chased and then saved by someone was quite an experience. She also discovered the secret of her space... What if the man intended to kill her and take her space? The thought sent chills down Chi Rongyan's spine. She quickly picked up the herbs and sniffed each one. No poison. Relieved, Chi Rongyan realized she might have been judging him unfairly. Still, it was better not to get too involved with someone so mysterious. Once she finished studying his unique case, she would return the token and cut ties with him completely. With that decision made, Chi Rongyan finally slept peacefully.
In the following days, Chi Rongyan enjoyed some peace and quiet since Chi Meng'er was confined to the house. However, Chi Meng'er wasn't idle. During her confinement, she came up with a new plan. As soon as her three-day restriction ended, she eagerly entered Chi Rongyan's garden. Chi Rongyan was sunbathing when she saw Chi Meng'er approaching with a smile. Instantly, she sensed something was up. Nevertheless, she greeted Chi Meng'er with a smile.
"Sister, I thought you never wanted to see me again," Chi Rongyan said.
Chi Meng'er's gentle expression nearly faltered, but she maintained her composure and replied, "What are you talking about? I was wrong before, and today, I'm here to apologize to you."
Apologize? Now that's something new.
Rongyan thought to herself, though she put on a surprised expression, looking at Meng'er as she spoke.
"Sister... are you serious? That’s absolutely unnecessary. How could you possibly apologize to your younger sister?"
Meng'er found Rongyan's words to be quite sarcastic, making her feel a bit nauseous. However, she couldn't find a flaw in Rongyan's words to argue against, so she had to swallow her frustration and respond with a smile.
"There's no need to dwell on it, sister. I'm actually here to invite you to tomorrow's garden party. All the young gentlemen and ladies from the city will be there. It’s a great chance for you to make some new friends."
You’re being this considerate? Rongyan thought with a cold smile. Something definitely feels off here.
