C17 Watching Tiger Fight

Chen Ruoruo heard this and secretly felt disdain. Just a country bumpkin who’s never seen the world. If she weren't Meng'er's sister, she’d find even mentioning Chi Rongyan's name distasteful. As the top talent in the capital, she had no interest in associating with someone like Rongyan.

From a distance, Chi Rongyan watched them gather, not planning to join the commotion. She continued to sit leisurely, enjoying the scenery. However, her nanny's expression changed. She instructed Rongyan to wait while she stepped away briefly. When she returned, her face was serious.

Seeing Rongyan still oblivious, the nanny hesitated to reveal the truth and simply said, "Third Miss, it's freezing, and you're not well. Let's head back."

Who knows what Meng'er was thinking, inviting her sister, who hasn't studied, to an event focused on music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. Yet, there was no fault to find—after all, the event's theme wasn't Meng'er's doing, and if she claimed to have forgotten, no one could argue.

"Head back?" Rongyan was puzzled. Before she could respond, Chi Meng'er and her companion had already approached. Seeing the nanny's serious demeanor, Meng'er felt a surge of satisfaction.

"Meng'er, let me introduce you. This is my sister, Rongyan. Rongyan, this is my friend, Ruoruo, the eldest daughter of the Chen family. She's the most talented woman in the city, skilled in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. I'm sure Ruoruo will win the top prize today."

Meng'er emphasized the words "music, chess, calligraphy, and painting," hoping to see a flicker of panic and embarrassment in Rongyan's eyes.

Being just a young girl, Meng'er wasn't as adept at hiding her emotions as Mrs. Lee, so Rongyan quickly picked up on the emotions behind her words and played along, feigning a flustered expression.

"Music, chess, calligraphy, and painting? Sister, are we competing in those today? I thought it was more like... butchering pigs and chickens..."

Saying this, Rongyan bit her lip and lowered her head, turning to leave. "In that case, I'll be on my way. You and Ruoruo have fun."

Ruoruo was already unnerved by Rongyan's talk of "butchering pigs and chickens," and hearing Rongyan call her "sister" only made her glare more fiercely.

How dare she!

If Ruoruo didn't put Rongyan in her place today, she might as well give up her title as the city's most talented woman!

Chi Meng'er noticed the tension between the two and felt secretly pleased, though she feigned concern for Chi Rongyan. "Sister, you forgot that Yan doesn't know how to read and has never learned music, chess, calligraphy, or painting. But the garden party is about to start. If Yan leaves now, it might not be appropriate."

Chen Ruoruo, always considering herself superior, would surely feel insulted if she realized Chi Rongyan couldn't read a single word and had just called her sister. At that point, Meng'er could simply sit back and watch the drama unfold.

This time, even if something did happen, it would be Chen Ruoruo who took the blame, and Meng'er wouldn't bear any responsibility at all!

Chi Rongyan immediately understood that Chi Meng'er was deliberately provoking Chen Ruoruo. Sure enough, when she glanced over, Chen Ruoruo's look of disdain was even more pronounced.

Chi Rongyan found it amusing. This young girl didn't even know what was going on, yet she was already seething with resentment after just a few words.
