C17 I Bought It!

Seeing the hopeful look in his girlfriend's eyes and Chen Ping's disdainful stare, he just couldn't bear it.

If he walked away with his tail between his legs, he wouldn't be able to face not only his girlfriend but also himself.

The disturbance had already caught the attention of many onlookers, who regarded Jiang Hua with a mix of scorn and sympathy.

Some were even whispering to their companions, snickering at the poor man who had rashly lost his cool.

As Jiang Hua listened to their murmurs, his fists tightened, and he felt his eyes grow warm with frustration. But in his moment of helplessness, even despair, a serene voice came from behind.

"I'll buy that phone for you."

The voice wasn't loud, yet it resonated clearly with everyone present.

The crowd was taken aback. Jiang Hua spun around and exclaimed with joy, "Yang Ling!"

They had been close friends since high school, and though life had taken them in different directions after graduation, their bond remained strong.

Yang Ling gave a nod and a smile. "I've owed you ten thousand dollars for a while. It's time to pay you back."

"You owe me ten thousand?"

Jiang Hua was puzzled, but after catching Yang Ling's meaningful glance, he held his tongue.

Approaching the counter, Yang Ling said with a smile, "Let's get that bill ready. We're buying this phone."

The salesperson observed Yang Ling, who, despite his simple attire, carried himself with an indescribable poise. She had seen many customers over the years, but she could tell this young man was different.

She was certain he could afford the iPhone X.

With a sweet smile, the salesperson responded, "Sir, just one moment, please. I'll prepare your bill right away."

Yang Ling returned the smile, but then a derisive snort sounded from nearby. "Yang Ling, when did you, of all people, get the means to buy an iPhone X?"

"Surely you haven't been starving yourself for months to save up?"

"Planning to survive on instant noodles for half a year just for a phone? That's hilarious."

Yang Ling had no interest in engaging with someone so fixated on money. He simply smiled at the salesperson and added, "Actually, I'm thinking of getting one for myself too. Let's make it two phones."

"Two?"

The salesperson's eyes went wide as he asked, "Sir, are you sure you want two iPhone Xs?"

It wasn't just him; the onlookers were also taken aback, murmuring among themselves.

"He doesn't look like he's got money."

"Two iPhone Xs, that's 16,000 yuan in total!"

"I bet he's just bluffing."

Yang Ling ignored the whispers, flashing a smile at the salesperson. "What's the matter? You think I can't pay?"

"Ah!"

Realizing her mistake, the salesperson quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, two iPhone Xs coming right up. I'll get your bill ready immediately."

Chen Ping was seething. As a woman who was often quite sensitive, she interpreted Yang Ling's disregard for her as a silent snub: "I look down on you!"

The thought of being scorned by someone she had always considered beneath her was intolerable.

But with everyone watching, she couldn't cause a scene. Biting back her anger, she scoffed, "I'm really curious to see if you can actually pay."

Meanwhile, Jiang Hua was on edge. He knew all too well about Yang Ling's humble background; Yang Ling was truly from a poor family, even poorer than himself.

Right now, Yang Ling was clearly trying to help Jiang Hua, not wanting him to be embarrassed in front of his girlfriend. That's why Yang Ling had offered to repay the money to Jiang Hua.

Friends like that were truly hard to come by.
