Alpha Zachary

I woke up to the soft whisper of my name, "Zachary!" I opened my tired eyes and saw my dear mate, Luna. Her face pale, sweat on her forehead, clearly in discomfort. She was early in her pregnancy, and I could see she was scared.

As fast as I could, I sat up, looking at her with worry. I saw her sickly face and could see her belly twisting in pain. She was struggling to breathe, and I sensed something was wrong. Anxiously, I asked "What's happening? Are you okay?" But I think I knew the answer.

She looked terrified as she held her stomach, barely getting out the words, "I think I'm losing the baby. Please, do something." Her plea hit me hard.

I quickly threw off the blanket and saw blood on the white sheets. My heart sank. This wasn't our first loss. We'd been trying to have a baby for years. But this wasn't just a miscarriage; it was the fifth one.

I felt the pain of loss heavily, its grip tight around my chest. I wanted a child to carry on my legacy. The fact that we didn't have one was causing resentment towards Luna, even though it wasn't her fault. The situation was just sadly unfortunate.

Without wasting time, I held her shaking body in my arms and called out to my servants, "Get a doctor now, and bring me my Beta. She's losing the baby... again." Each word was like a stab to my heart.

We met three years ago when I'd just become an adult. She was my true mate, and we'd been together since. But her inability to bear a child put a strain on our relationship and was eroding our love.

Deep inside, a voice told me to leave and find a mate who could bear children. But I fought it. As the Alpha, I had to show loyalty and obedience to my pack by following the rules, even if it meant my happiness.

Soon, the doctor came and did his best to try and save Luna and our unborn child. But I felt hope slipping away as we watched. As I feared, we lost the baby... again.

The doctor, feeling guilty, left the room, looking down and muttering, "Alpha Zachary, I'm…” But I cut him off, "You're sorry." I comforted him, "It's okay. Don't be. This is just my fate."

My right-hand man, my Beta, interrupted my thoughts with a cough. His voice hoarse with emotion, he suggested, "I think you need to get away for a while. Perhaps visit the lake house?" I thought for a bit. His suggestion seemed reasonable considering how worn out and angry I felt.

I agreed to his suggestion. With a calm voice. I commanded, "Good idea, prepare the limousine. You're coming with me." I felt a bit comforted. I trusted him, he was my confidante, and understood my desire for a new love and a fertile mate who could give me children.

When I walked into Luna's room, I found her lying in bed, looking very sad. She'd been crying, and the servants around her were also upset. I sat down next to her, and she looked at me with tears in her eyes. Struggling to talk, she apologized and asked me not to leave her.

I wiped her tears away and tried to smile at her. "I'm not leaving you," I promised her. I kissed her hand gently before getting up. When she asked me where I was going, I told her that I needed to check on things and would be away for a few days. I asked her to look after herself.

"But... I need you," Luna said, stopping me in my tracks. As much as I wanted to comfort her, I was at my limit. I had always dreamed of having a big, happy family, but that dream was shattered because of our problems. The woman I loved was the cause of this. Before leaving the room, I told Luna to take care of herself.

By saying her name, 'Luna', I was reminding myself of the bond that tied me to her forever. I left, hoping that spending a few days at my cabin by the lake would help ease my pain and allow me to carry on with my life. My situation looked hopeless and my love for Luna was being tested.

I desperately wanted some hope to break through the darkness and make my life brighter. Unknown to me, my life was about to change when I encountered a homeless female wolf. She was sleeping on the ground near the lake, scavenging for food in the grass. Her eyes were different colors - one was a captivating yellow, the other a mesmerizing blue. This, combined with her dirty clothes and the strong smell of rotting fish, showed me how hard her life was.

I had no idea then that meeting this rough, homeless female wolf would inspire me to want to live happily again.
