C5 Rejection

IN THE NIGHT

Brianna sat in front of the fire with her legs crossed in India style. Carl stood on a spot, his sharp eyes scanning the area. She heaved a sigh of tiredness.

“Brianna, you don’t have to do this patrol with me.” Carl said.

“Are you telling me to quit after coming this far?” Brianna asked as she stared into the fire.

“I am just concerned about you.” Carl admitted.

Brianna liked the fact that he was worried about her and he had also made a promise to protect her.

“Don’t forget that I am not just an ordinary wolf. I am a well trained moon stone warrior and one of the powerful witches in our pack.” Brianna replied with pride in her tone.

Carl sat opposite Brianna. “I can see you have many badges that are making you proud. But it doesn’t matter, I still need to protect you as a member of my pack. That’s my responsibility as an alpha.” He said.

Brianna nodded in agreement. “I know you have vowed to protect your pack members. Come on Carl, I am just trying to help you.” She threw a dry leaf into the fire.

“Why? Everyone wants to help but it seems different accepting any help from you.” Carl stared intently at her.

“It is not hard to tell what’s going on between us.” Brianna mumbled.

Carl raised his eyebrows. “There is nothing going on between us, Brianna. I just care for you the same way I care about the other pack members.” He stood up dusting off his butt.

Brianna knew the alpha was setting boundaries which he thought she would never dare to cross. But Brianna was determined to express everything on her mind. She did not only come out here just to fight off vampire rogues. To Brianna it was a perfect chance to prove to the alpha that she is worthy to be his mate.

“Everyone in the pack is aware of my feelings for you. But why are you trying to turn a blind eye to my feelings?” Brianna fiddled with her fingers as she fixed her gaze on the fire.

“Brianna-“

“I love you, Carl.” She interrupted him.

Carl stared down at Briana and their gaze locked. He was taken aback by her sudden confession.

“What do I need to do to make me prove to you that I am worthy to be your mate?” Brianna asked. She waited for a response from the alpha.

The twenty years old she wolf is madly in love with a thirty two years old wolf who happens to be an alpha. But unfortunately for Brianna their relationship can’t go well, not because of the age differences but the male wolf can’t love the female wolf no matter how hard he tries.

Alpha Carl knew this in his head but Brianna was finding it hard to accept the truth. She can’t be the alpha’s predestined mate.

“Brianna, I am sorry. But whatever it is you are thinking can’t work between us.” Carl spoke up with a serious look on his face after some seconds of silence.

“But why can’t a relationship work out between us? Carl, we should at least give it a try. We can go on three dates to see if it will work out.” Brianna suggested.

Carl shook his head in disagreement. “I don’t have time to go on dates. I have a responsibility to fulfill to the pack.”

Brianna rolled her eyes. “It is always about the pack. Do you ever think about your own happiness?” She asked.

“I am happy if the pack is doing well. The reason why things can’t work out between us is because Julius is not only my best friend, he is more a brother to me. So that makes you a baby sister to me too.” Carl replied.

Brianna swallowed hard. “I guess that’s the problem. You don’t see me as a woman but the little girl you nurtured as a teenager right?”

Carl nodded in response to her words.

“I shouldn’t have come to earth as Julius sister. This is so annoying.” She mumbled.

“What if nothing changed even if you aren’t Julius sister?” Carl questioned.

Brianna looked away from him. “Why am I not crying after this rejection?” She threw a stick into the flames that was almost burning down.

“Listen Brianna, I am sure you will find a man or a wolf that will reciprocate your feelings.” Carl said, looking up into the clear skies. The moon was full today.

“And when will that be?” Brianna asked.

“Soon.” Carl answered.

“And what if I don’t find a mate?” Brianna stood up and placed her hands on her waist.

Carl furrowed his eyebrows. “You will find a mate....definitely.” He assured her.

Brianna snorted. “How can you be so sure when you haven’t found your better half at thirty two? All you ever do is bury yourself in pack affairs.” She folded her arms across her chest.

Carl chuckled. “I am devoting my life to the pack. And stop acting like you don’t know what happened in my last relationship.” He pointed at her.

“Oh Madison..that’s five years ago. She is such a fool for rejecting you that way. If she didn’t want to get married to you then she shouldn’t have acted like she was fulfilling the Luna duties at dating stage.” Brianna hissed out as she rattled on.

“How could she fail you? I remember you were head over heels for that sly wolf and we all thought you both would get married.” She shook her head, a disappointed and furious look on her face.

“There is a reason for everything.” Carl breathed out.

He tried hard not to reminisce over the memories of Madison. He has closed that chapter of his life and his heart had healed of the rejection from the first woman he has ever loved.

“Well I am happy it didn’t work out. While you were dating her, I had feelings for you and concluded that Madison doesn’t deserve you. Although you guys looked good together.” She sighed.

No words came from Carl so she continued. “And guess what? I am not giving up on you until you find your better half.” Brianna stated clearly
