C1 Losing Bid

"Kate! You better get here real fast! Things haven't been looking great since the Miller stepped in!" Alessa's voice came as a scream from the other line.

"Okay, I'm just a couple blocks away!"

Kate disconnected the line immediately with a sharp breath. She didn't need any further pressure at this point. She had literally spent two days without sleep, just to make sure that her company bid couldn't be outbest by any competitors but it was obvious that the Miller was ruining her plan by forking a huge amount of cash that couldn't simply be ignored for a cell tower. A cell tower, which she had preparing to purchase for months…

"Just stop the Cab, I will head out myself!"

Kate spoke while tossing the driver his fare and alighting from the cab so hurriedly, she almost fell flat on her face on her way out the door. The traffic was at a standstill. She wasn't going to be stuck in traffic while the company she spent months building to its current stage was at the brink of bankruptcy.

Not minding her image Kate instantly burst into a sprint towards the bidding venue, swerving her way through a ton of people down the pavement on her way before finally arriving at the building. She was out of breath as she made her way towards the elevator to go up to the hall where the bid was taking place.

Kate was a young skinny and effortlessly beautiful petite lady, with black long curls that reached her shoulders and jade green eyes that were almost enchanting if one stared too long into them.

She was dressed formally in grey pants that highlighted the feminine curves which she was in no way lacking, with a cream colored shirt tucked into it. Nude colored stilettos complimented her look, which matched the nude colored purse she was clutching in one hand.

One glance at Alessa on arriving at the hall was enough to tell Kate that they had lost the bid.

Alessa, was Kate's childhood best friend and also doubled as her assistant. She was around the same age as Kate. Unlike her skinny friend, Alessa was thick. She was a brunette with her hair stylishly cut in a bob style. She had big dark brown eyes, which carried a hint of sadness at the moment as she gazed at her friend, and she was wearing a fluffy coat over an halter neck flowing gown.

Knowing how many hours her friend had put into the bid they had just lost, Alessa could only imagine how crushed she must be feeling, so she quickly pulled her in for a bear hug before speaking.

"We didn't stand a chance. The Miller family heir made a rare appearance this time with a bid of fifty million dollars for the cell tower, which was unexpected by everyone."

At this statement Kate wasn't sure whether she should cry at her losing the bid or laugh at the outrageous price that the Miller family had paid compared to their bid of ten million dollars, which was already on the high side for a cell tower in a desolate location.

"To be honest, I see no reason why the Miller would just suddenly buy a cell tower especially when they don't have information we have. Maybe you can ask around to know why."

Alessa simply spoke Kate's thoughts out loud and as she ended her words, breaking the embrace at the same time, Kate knew that was her friend's cue to leave.

Alessa and the rest of the team had literally driven out of the city of their respective residences just to arrive at the venue before sunrise because she couldn't be present herself as working for the last thirty-two hours with barely any sleep had finally taken a toll on her body.

She had passed out the previous night due to all of the stress and it had been pretty late into the morning by the time she had come to. She had barely even showered and had dressed up so hurriedly not bothering to apply body lotion on her body or makeup on her face. It was a good thing she didn't have those kind of dry skin and didn't need makeup to look beautiful. She barely even wore any makeup to begin with.

Returning to the present, Kate managed a light smile, and then said to Alessa, "I will stay around and see what I can come up with."

Goodbye pleasantries were quickly exchanged with Alessa and also the rest of the team that came along. Once Kate was sure that they were gone she found an unassuming spot in the venue to sober up. She couldn't even imagine how she would face her father who let her take the reins of the company and had previously warned about her rapid expansion.

The company of Kate's father, The Golden Bird, had started out as a decent telecom company with a couple hundred of customers but since she took over the wheel just over a year and a couple of months ago, she had been able to triple that number and turn the company into a multi-million dollar company, majorly with the help of an article about a loan she had found online.

Now, she stood the risk of losing it all including their family town house, if she wasn't able to repay the loan or provide evidence of future revenue. It was why purchasing the cell tower had been so important, it would have served as the evidence of future revenue she needed. What was she to do now that she had lost it? And to think that she had gotten nominated for forbes entrepreneur of the year, so ironic!

Kate would probably puke blood if she knew that the only reason Lucas had come to contest in the bid was because his Grandfather had a dream the previous night about owning a telecom company and coincidentally saw the advertisement of the cell tower bid on television that morning, prompting him to put up Lucas 'to get it at all cost'...

"Miss, we would be closing soon and we need to clean up," the voice of one of the staff snapped Kate out of her nap. She hadn't even realised that she had dozed off!

"Yeah, give me a moment and I will be out,'' she replied almost instinctively.

It took a few minutes for Kate to actually regain her composure after the staff left. She couldn't help but be slightly surprised to see that it was already nighttime. She had fallen asleep while wallowing in self pity, how pathetic!

Gritting her teeth both in anger and frustration, she took a quick glance at her phone and saw a dozen missed calls from both Alessa and her Dad. They were the only people close enough to notice she had been absent for a good part of the day. They must have both been so worried.

Kate quickly sent a text to her Dad to inform him that she would be back home soon and to Alessa that she was okay. She spent an extra five minutes making sure her stuff and appearance was in order before heading towards the elevator. She couldn't help but worry about how to tell her father that the company had to file for bankruptcy with their private asset not granted an exception to the item that had to be liquidated. He would definitely kill her…

Kate couldn't help but feel stupid, after all, she had built the company around a resource that they hadn't even acquired. All she had now was a bunch of useless high tech equipment sitting in the storage without a resale market plan, not to mention, she still had to pay a premium for its storage.

Everything had been on track until the Millers had stepped in. Kate wanted to so badly swear at someone at this thought, even better if she could swear at the actual perpetrators of this entire unpleasant situation.

The dinging sound of the elevator as the door opened broke Kate from her thoughts but she was totally unprepared for what happened next.
