C2 Stuck In Elevator

It was exactly like the case of 'speak of the devil' and boom he appears!

Lucas Miller, with a brisk posture and an annoying flirtatious smile was standing right in front of her inside the elevator she was supposed to take down.

Kate quickly regained her composure, giving Lucas a slight nod of acknowledgment before getting into the elevator since it would be awkward if she spent any more seconds standing out there. She had after all been the one to call for the elevator.

There were probably thousands of girls that would pay thousand of dollars and get in line to have a moment in the elevator with Lucas Miller, the heir of the multi billion generational empire. Lucas was handsome with dark brown hair and ocean blue eyes, moreso, he had quite the athletic build that even his expensive tuxedo couldn't seem to hide. In addition to being handsome, his cold aura was able to melt the heart of thousands of girls but not Kate, especially not after what he had just cost her.

The man standing just inches away beside her was majorly responsible for her misfortune and he would leave without knowing the effect of his action, leaving her to pick up the pieces.

Kate was literally holding the urge to give him a hard smack on the head. The only reason she was holding back was because of who he was. She couldn't mess with the likes of him but she couldn't help but glare at him still.

A thick silence was ensuing between them until Lucas spoke, most probably noticing Kate's intense stare.

" Hi, I am Lucas Miller, nice to meet you."

Before Kate could even process his words or the fact that he was talking to her, a loud bang was heard, the elevator experienced a vigorous but brief shake before coming to a stop. The whole building power supply had gone off!

"Are you okay?" His voice sounded in the darkness, surprisingly soothing.

"Yeah, I think so."

Kate replied, her voice shaking slightly as she was in a bit of a shock as to what had just happened. Impulsively, she reached into her handbag for her phone, intending to call someone for help but she saw that there was no signal on her phone.

Lucas who was ironically calm about the whole situation spoke again. "It would take at least twenty minutes for the back up generators to kick in."

Kate couldn't help but think that she got up from the wrong side of the bed today. Her day clearly couldn't have gotten any worse than being stuck in the same place with the person she currently hated the most and for the next twenty minutes too!

Taking deep breaths in succession as she realized that being angry wasn't going to get her anywhere, Kate took a sitting position at the other side of the elevator imitating Lucas who had taken a sitting position about a minute ago.

"I'm Kate by the way," Kate felt the need to introduce herself. He had after all introduced himself first.

"Yeah I know, I was told that," he replied and she couldn't help but furrow her eyebrows together. Told by who? And then it hit her, of course he got to know her name when he was bidding for her cell tower! The anger returned in full force.

That that was literally the only conversation they had. For the remaining twenty minutes before the power came on, silence ensued. When the elevator dinged and the doors opened, Kate started to exit the elevator. She halted when she stepped out and turned back to Lucas. Her mouth opened to say something but she closed it without speaking, and then she turned to continue on her way, leaving a trail of her fury.

Being at the center of New York, it was just a couple of minutes before she was able to get a cab back home. Thankfully there wasn't any traffic on the road like earlier. Kate sighed heavily as the cab sped on. She did need a proper sleep on her bed but she was in a crisis and needed to resolve things as quickly as possible and she had no idea how to even go about it.

She was more afraid of arriving home and getting a disappointed look from her father since there was no doubt that he had gotten hold of the information that the company lost the bid, having followed the situation closely.

It took a couple of minutes before the cab finally came to a stop in front of a townhouse.

Already accepting the reality of her situation at this point, Kate paid the driver before alighting from the cab and walking into the house she resided in with her dad.

Just as expected her father was still up in the living room holding a cup of coffee obviously waiting for her return.

"Young lady, you are very much in trouble. It's way past your bedtime and you are still out. I don't want any pretty boy's fanging over my daughter, you know?"

Good! He still got jokes! Thought Kate. That should be some sort of good sigh, right? That he wasn't going to kill her…

"Alessa filled me in on everything. You don't have to be hard on yourself."

Kate instantly broke into a rather hysterical laughter. How could her dad still be trying to cheer her up despite the situation? She didn't understand. He should be furious at her! She did mess things up after all! Him being so calm and still treating her like this was making her feel worse…

Tears gradually filled her eyes and started to flow freely down her cheeks as her father pulled her in for a hug against his rather small body frame. Even smaller than hers. She had gotten both her body statue and eye color from her dad.

Her jaw rested against her father's chestnut brown hair as her arms wrapped around him. His hand moved to her back, patting it.

"Now you are making me embarrassed, this isn't the tough girl that I know."

Kate clearly ignored his words for a few seconds before pulling away from his embrace and clearing her throat awkwardly. "I better go and freshen up."

"I guess it's goodnight then! Just don't think about today and focus more on sleeping. Hopefully we will get everything resolved tomorrow."

Kate didn't understand what her father meant by the latter part of his sentence but she nodded nevertheless before heading towards her bedroom for the much needed proper sleep.

***

Kate was suddenly woken up by a gentle tap on her shoulder and was surprised to see her dad all dressed up.

"Wake up sleepy head! You haven't prepared my breakfast and I will be running late to the meeting if you don't actually get up now."

Kate was instantly on alert, sending a curious glance towards her father, which he clearly ignored and left her room.

"I will have your breakfast ready in fifteen minutes!"

Not sparing a second extra, Kate instantly went into the bathroom to freshen up before heading back down.

With everything that was going on it wasn't hard to figure out that the meeting her dad had that morning was most probably her last saving grace to the company. How? She wasn't sure.

It only took her a couple of minute to have the eggs scrambled and to place a number of bread beside it before serving it as breakfast to her dad who already had his favourite cup of tea ready and in front of him.

Kate took a seat across her dad, who took a bite from the eggs before nodding in approval and speaking "You know that tea club you always called 'stupid' for me attending to dwindle away time with you taking over the company?"

He paused as Kate nodded, taking a quick sip of his tea before continuing. "I guess the Miller Grandfather also happened to be a Member…"
