C4 The cold negotiation

Arthur," Alexander's deep, velvet baritone sliced through the tense silence of the room. He didn't take his eyes off Elena. "Leave us."

Arthur Vance looked between his trembling daughter and the formidable billionaire. He didn't hesitate. He nodded frantically, eager to escape the suffocating aura of power radiating from Alexander. "Of course. Elena, please... be reasonable," Arthur muttered under his breath before slipping out of the living room, closing the heavy double doors behind him.

The click of the latch sounded like a prison door locking Elena inside.

Suddenly, the vast room felt incredibly small. Elena stood frozen near the entryway, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. Her face was still burning with that fierce, uncontrollable blush. Up close, Alexander was even more overwhelming. The subtle scent of his expensive cologne-something dark, woody, and distinctly masculine-drifted across the space, wrapping around her senses.

Alexander didn't move immediately. He stood with absolute poise, his hands casually tucked into the pockets of his tailored trousers. He studied her. His piercing gray eyes swept over her, tracking the rapid rise and fall of her chest, the sharp angle of her defiant chin, and the way the emerald green silk hugged her curves. To Elena, his gaze felt like ice. She had no idea that beneath that frozen exterior, Alexander was fighting a violent urge to cross the room and pull her into his arms.

"Are you going to stand by the door all evening, Elena?" he asked. His tone was smooth, flat, and entirely devoid of emotion.

Elena swallowed the lump of nerves in her throat. She forced her shaking legs to move, marching toward the center of the room. She refused to look weak in front of him. "I didn't think corporate predators cared about manners," she fired back, her voice sharper than she intended.

One of Alexander's dark eyebrows arched slightly. The ghost of an amused smirk threatened to break his mask, but he suppressed it instantly. He stepped toward the low glass coffee table, unbuttoning his suit jacket as he sat down on the leather sofa. He gestured to the armchair opposite him. "Sit."

"I prefer to stand," she snapped, crossing her arms tightly over her chest.

Elena kept her posture rigid, desperate to hide the fact that her knees were trembling. Standing allowed her to look down at him, but even seated, Alexander completely dominated the space. The soft glow of the chandelier caught the sharp angles of his face, making him look less like a corporate executive and more like a dark monarch waiting for an audience. Every tick of the grandfather clock in the corner felt like a countdown to her doom.

"Suit yourself," Alexander replied coldly. He reached inside his jacket, pulled out a sleek, heavy fountain pen, and laid it on the table. Then, from a leather briefcase beside him, he produced a thick stack of legal documents. He slid them across the glass surface. The title printed in bold, black letters stared up at her: PRENUPTIAL AND MATRIMONIAL AGREEMENT.

Elena stared at the paper, her breath catching. "You really think you can just buy a person? My father messed up a business deal. That has nothing to do with me."

"This is business, Elena," Alexander continued, his voice dropping an octave, becoming dangerously low. "The terms are simple. You marry me. You attend public events by my side. You play the part of a dutiful Sterling bride for the media to ensure my company's stock remains stable during the merger. In exchange, I absorb your family's debt."

He leaned forward, tapping his finger against a specific section of the papers.

"But I do not do partial deals, and I do not tolerate half-measures," Alexander said, his voice dropping to a gravelly, commanding whisper. "Turn to page twelve, paragraph four. It clearly outlines your marital obligations. It states that you are required to perform all standard duties of a wife behind closed doors-explicitly including the physical satisfaction and intimacy expected in a marriage. If I bind my name to yours, I expect a real marriage. Total devotion. Total compliance."

Elena gasped, a fierce, scorching heat erupting across her cheeks as she looked from the text back to his dark, unblinking gray eyes. The sheer audacity of the clause made her blood boil, yet a treacherous spike of adrenaline shot through her veins. He wasn't asking for a companion; he was demanding her entire self.

"You are insane," she whispered, her voice shaking with a mix of fury and fear. "You think because you have millions of dollars, you can force me into your bed? That is disgusting."

Alexander didn't blink. His expression remained a terrifyingly beautiful mask of stone. "Disgusting? Perhaps. But it is entirely legal once your signature is on that paper. I am buying out a forty-million-dollar liability, Elena. In the business world, when you pay premium price, you receive premium assets. I expect a wife who belongs to me completely, both in the public eye and in the privacy of my home."

"I will never touch you," she hissed, taking a step closer to the table, her hands clenched into fists at her sides.

"We shall see," Alexander murmured, his eyes tracking the furious rise and fall of her chest. He didn't sound angry; he sounded entirely confident, as if her resistance was merely a minor formality he had already accounted for. He picked up the heavy gold fountain pen and pushed the contract right to her edge of the table. "Sign it, and your family's debt disappears tonight."
