C6 The arrival

The midnight-black luxury sedan rolled smoothly through a pair of massive, imposing wrought-iron gates that bore the sharp, geometric Sterling family crest.

Elena leaned her head against the cool, tinted glass, her breath clouding the window as the villa mansion finally came into view through the shifting morning mist.

It looked less like a residence and more like a high-security fortress. Nestled deep within acres of perfectly manicured grounds and towering pines, the estate was a stunning, hyper-modern masterpiece of dark slate, raw concrete, and soaring glass walls.

It looked exactly like Alexander-sleek, breathtakingly beautiful, and completely unyielding to the world around it.

The car glided to a silent, flawless halt in the grand circular driveway.

The driver immediately climbed out and opened her door, offering a white-gloved hand that she politely ignored. Elena stepped out into the crisp, biting dawn air, her heart doing a nervous, frantic flip against her ribs. She gripped the worn strap of her black duffel bag tightly, refusing to look intimidated by the sheer scale of the architecture looming over her.

The towering front doors of the mansion swung open before she could even reach the top stone step.

Standing in the grand foyer, bathed in the soft, architectural amber light of the high-ceilinged entrance, was Alexander. He had already discarded his formal suit jacket from the night before.

Instead, he wore a pristine white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up neatly to his forearms, revealing thick, muscular wrists dusted with dark hair. He looked impossibly neat, every strand of his dark hair perfectly styled, completely unaffected by the grueling early hour.

"Welcome to your new home, Elena," Alexander said, his deep, resonant baritone echoing effortlessly off the high marble walls.

Elena stepped inside, the heavy doors sealing shut behind her with a definitive, echoing thud that made her flinch. She swallowed the lump of anxiety in her throat, looking around the vast, minimalist space before locking her eyes onto his freezing gray gaze. "I wouldn't call a prison a home," she muttered, her voice tight with exhaustion and defiance.

Alexander tracked her movements with an unblinking, predatory focus. He didn't react to her jab. "Have you eaten?" he asked flatly, his tone entirely conversational yet carrying an undercurrent of total command.

Elena paused, blinking at him in utter disbelief. Have you eaten? What an absurd question to ask. She pondered the ridiculousness of it for a fraction of a second, her mind swirling with the chaos of the last twelve hours, before her exhaustion and buried fury finally boiled over.

"It is six in the morning and you think I've had breakfast?" she snapped, crossing her arms defensively over her chest and glaring at him. "Do not add to my grievance, please. I am only here because I have to be, not to make small talk."

Alexander's eyes instantly darkened, the gray depths turning to the color of a midnight storm. The air in the foyer turned suffocatingly heavy, pressing down on her chest. He didn't raise his voice, but a dangerous, quiet authority settled over him that made the hairs on the back of her neck stand up.

"Watch how you talk to me, candy," he said, his voice dropping to a gravelly, commanding whisper.

Before she could even register the patronizing, dangerously intimate nickname, Alexander took three slow, deliberate steps forward.

He closed the distance between them so rapidly that Elena's breath caught violently in her throat. He towered over her, his broad, athletic frame completely blocking out the rest of the foyer, trapping her against the shadow of his presence. He leaned down, pressing deeply into her personal space until he was so close that the only thing separating them was the bare lips waiting patiently to touch.

The intense, intoxicating scent of his woody cologne completely enveloped her senses, making her dizzy. Elena stared helplessly at his lips, a sudden, treacherous spike of liquid heat shooting straight down her spine. Her mind went completely, entirely blank under the weight of his absolute dominance. For a terrifying second, she actually wanted him to lean those last few millimeters in.

Then, Elena violently snapped back to reality. Her cheeks burned a furious, scorching crimson as she scrambled a frantic, clumsy step backward, breaking the hypnotic spell that had locked her limbs in place.

"What... what do you think you're doing?!" she demanded, her voice shaking with a volatile mix of panic and involuntary arousal. She clutched her duffel bag against her chest like a physical shield between them.

Alexander didn't flinch or pursue her as she retreated. He stood his ground exactly where he was, a dark, incredibly faint smirk playing at the corner of his sculpted lips. He casually adjusted the heavy gold watch on his left wrist, looking down his sharp nose at her with absolute confidence.

"What does it look like I'm doing?" he murmured smoothly, his gray eyes tracking the frantic rise and fall of her chest. "I am establishing the rules of this house. You are my wife now, Elena. And in this house, you will learn to speak to me with respect."

Elena opened her mouth to fire back another angry retort, but Alexander turned on his heel before she could speak. He didn't wait for her compliance; he simply assumed it.

"Leave your bag by the stairs. A maid will take it up," Alexander commanded over his shoulder, his voice returning to its cool, professional corporate cadence. "Follow me to the dining room. Since you haven't eaten, breakfast is already served. We have a schedule to keep."

Elena stood frozen in the center of the grand foyer, her face still burning. She looked down at her duffel bag, then up at his broad back as he walked down the long, sunlit corridor. She had never felt so utterly powerless, yet so hyper-alive, in her entire life. Reluctantly, she let her bag slip to

the floor and followed him into the depths of his castle.
