C38 Thirty eight

He fell silent after I spoke, as if my words were a slap in the face to him, which is why he suddenly went quiet. Even if I wanted to take back what I said, I couldn't.

Another blanket of silence enveloped us. It seems my eyes are too tired to shed any more tears, which is why none are falling now. All that's left are sobs and a tightness in my chest, no more tears.

I gathered up my courage. "Tell me, Are you sure that we're breaking up? Because if we do, there's no going back. This means that it's the end for us. Our finish line, and we can no longer go or find other lines because it's finished," I said gently. "Are you sure?"

"No," He suddenly replied.

I bit my lip and slowly closed my mouth, almost squinting because of an unknown reason.

[Cyrus! Let's eat now! I think your dish is cooked already!]

I clenched my left hand because of the voice I heard. I straightened up and released another sigh.

How can he eat without asking me if I'm fine for the past few days?! How can he cook for her if, in the first place, I can't eat properly thinking about him?!

[Selene... Baby,] He called.

Who is he calling baby? Is it still me?

I pressed my forehead "Okay.." I bit my lip before my tears fell and I sobbed. "Let's break up," I said weakly, almost in a whisper.

I heard him cursing. I closed my eyes because my knees and shoulders started to tremble again.

[Baby..] He called again.

I couldn't take it anymore, so I quickly ended the call. I saw his name pop up on the screen again. I shook my head and quickly ended Cyrus's call and denied Samuel's number.

"Br-brother..." I started.

[Fuck it! Why? Are you okay? Where are you?] He asked in rapid succession.

Because when I call him brother, it only means one thing... I'm scared.

"I'm going home," I turned to Angel, who wasn't surprised by what I said.

[You what?] He asked again.

"I don't want to stay here anymore," My tears fell again " I'm going home to Ate," because if I stay here any longer, I might go crazy.

I'm scared that one day, I'll bump into Akia and Cyrus. I'm scared.

[Are you insane? I'm not--]

"I'm going home!" I shouted, almost like a child.

I heard him sigh as if defeated in our conversation.

[Where are you?]

"I'm at school, I'll wait for you at the exit. Please, Now," I pleaded.

[Alright, Wait for me don't worry I will be there immediately. I'm already in my car, so I'm on my way. We'll talk later,] He said authoritatively before hanging up.

I sniffled as I looked at Angel.

"Sorry," I said to Angel. "Sorry," I said to Elica. "I'll transfer for now... I can't stay here, Sorry," I said and hugged them.

Angel nodded and patted my back. "We understand."

"It's good that the exams are over and you can catch up to your new place," Elica said.

"Okay," I replied with a slight smile.

My knees were weak as I took a step and grabbed my bag. I smiled faintly at Elica, and she smiled back.

We started walking, and I glanced at the towering building on campus. The tall trees and a few students. I stopped and looked up at the sky. I sighed before continuing to walk. I glanced at Angel holding onto my arm and pouting.

"I already told Mawi, she cried. We'll really miss you for sure," She said sadly.

I smiled "I'll miss you too," I said and looked at Elica, who quietly followed us. "You too, even though you're always frowning at me,"

She pouted "I'll miss your grumpy self too, you idiot," She said with a laugh.

We started walking again, and I smiled at the security guard who glanced at me. I nodded, and he nodded back. When we reached the exit, I faced them and gave them a tight hug.

"We'll miss you," they both said.

I nodded "I'll miss you too,"

I let go of the hug and faced them, looking intently at their faces.

"I'll call and text," I said.

Angel nodded and smiled.

I heard a honk, so I looked and saw Samuel just getting out of the car. He waved to Angel before turning to me as he opened the front door.

I smiled at Angel and Elica before starting to walk towards Samuel, who was waiting for me to approach.

"Yoreh!" a familiar voice called out enthusiastically. I looked back at Sai and her friends. It would have been complete if Cyrus were with them.

I waved at them and smiled before finally getting into the car. Samuel immediately turned around, and I glanced back at Angel waving at us. As we drove off, I saw Sai pursing her lips in wonder, followed by her friends' curious stares at the car.

I silently watched the road again, lifting my gaze to the dazzling light in the sky.

I'm Yoreh Selene, and I'm the moon. He's Cyrus Elio, and he's the sun. We cannot be together because it's blurry to see the two of us.
