I woke up to a strange buzzing sound. It took me a while to realize that it was the incessant chatter. They were discussing something.

I felt so warm and cozy that I didn’t feel like opening my eyes. The panic and uneasiness I had felt over the past week dissipated. I drifted in and out of sleep catching only parts of the conversation going on.

Warm and heavy breathing on my face startled me and I snapped open my eyes. I gasped as I met the most beautiful pair of eyes I had ever seen; grey with golden streaks.

He lowered his head and bit my lower lip. The sharp sting brought me back to my senses. I pushed him away and raised myself only to realize that I was sitting on his lap.

I felt a surge of blood flush my face and my ears burned. Flustered I tried to get up but he pulled me back, making me sit on his lap.

I should have felt panic about finding myself alone with a stranger in a large desolate room. But, I felt completely at ease. It was then I realized that he was influencing my feelings.

I got out of his lap forcefully and took a few steps away from him. The warm and cozy feeling vanished and my heart started pounding against my ribs.

It was just as I had expected. I had to keep my distance from this man if I wanted to think straight. I turned and ran as fast as I could only to bump into Lina.

“Where are you going, Aurora? It is not safe to be alone especially here…”

“Then, why did you leave me alone, Lina… that too with a stranger…”

“He’s my brother, Caleb. He will keep you safe…”

I was pulled into a hug from behind. The same warmth flowed through my veins and I felt safe again. My heart fluttered as I heard his rich, husky voice near my ears, “I will keep you safe… promise…”

I pushed him with all my might and shouted, “Don’t come near me. I don’t want to feel like I am in the best place in the world while I am in grave danger.”

His eyes flashed with hurt making me think if he did care about me. No, I couldn’t let these feelings cloud my judgment.

“You promised to take me home, Lina. I… I didn’t think you will betray me like this…”

“You can’t go home, Aurora. Tyson’s men are keeping watch. This is the only place they can’t reach you.”

“Why? Is this the mafia’s lair?”

“You guessed it right, Luv.”

My heart skipped a beat when I heard this. I waited for him to burst into laughter but he looked Damn serious.

He did chuckle after a long silence. My ears rang as he spoke the next words, “Allow me to introduce myself, my lady. I am Caleb Wolf, the leader of the Crescent pack aka mafia gang.”

Then he took my hand and placed a light kiss on my hand. I looked at him in astonishment. He didn’t look like a mafia. He was drop-dead gorgeous and more well behaved than Tyson and Aslan who were supposed to be CEO of a business empire.

“Appearances can be deceptive, Hun. Rest assured, my brother is capable of eliminating entire factions with the snap of his finger.”

A shudder coursed through me at Lina’s statement. I had this sinking feeling that I had landed myself in the Devil’s lair after escaping the Demon’s house.

“Lina, it isn’t polite to scare my guest. Don’t listen to her, Luv. I don’t kill without a reason. You are absolutely safe here since you are in my protection.” He said brushing his fingers against my cheek.

I could sense a full-blown panic attack coming on. So, I let him stay close to me. it would at least allow me to think without having my panties in a wad.

Lina played the CCTV footage that showed the entrance to my house. It was swarming with Tyson’s men as Lina had said.

It was best to stay here until I figured out the place to seek refuge.

I tried to sleep but the incidents kept playing in my mind like an action replay. I tossed and turned on the bed. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t relax enough to sleep.

Then I felt it… It started as a mild stomach ache but soon it radiated all over my abdomen. I bit my lower lips trying to bear the pain.

I sat up and bent over my stomach, hoping that it would go away. But, it only grew in intensity by the minute.

“Arrrghhh!!!” I screamed as the pain became unbearable. It was like my abdomen was being torn apart from inside.

Caleb was next to me in an instant. He rubbed my back and asked in a worried voice, “What happened Luv?”

“I… I don’t know. My stomach hurts like a cactus is churning in it.”

He gripped my shoulders and looked into my eyes. I felt the pain dull slightly but it still hurt a lot.

“What happened, Aurora. You look like crap.” Lina said walking in.

Tears rolled down my cheeks as I said between gasps, “I… don’t know, Lina… The pain… it is just too much… I can’t take it anymore…”

Caleb pulled me into his lap and snuggled close. This didn’t seem to help much either…

“Didn’t you say Aslan injected you with his blood?”

“What does that have to do with my stomach ache? I am in no mood for chit-chat, Lina… please”

“Aslan’s blood must have triggered the baby’s dragon genes. She needs to be given his blood every week.”

“Bloody hell! Every week! Isn’t that too much? If it was say once a week or so, I could have attacked him and drained him of his blood. The only way to ensure that would Aurora gets blood every week would be to let her stay with them…”

Caleb’s words were like poison to my ears. I didn’t want to have anything to do with them.

“No, I don’t want to be locked up again. I will do anything else you say… is there no other way at all?”

“No!” Lina said a bit too quickly.

Caleb glared at her and said to me, “The only other way is to kill this baby.”

My hands flew to my abdomen and tears flowed freely down my cheeks. I could never do that… I had grown to love it more than myself.

A sudden spasm of pain made me bowl over in . I couldn’t take it any longer.

I grasped Caleb’s arm tightly and begged, “Please make it go away….”

His eyes flashed with some emotion I couldn’t quite comprehend, Then, his face turned expressionless. I caught a glimpse of his dark, cold expression before he left.

I couldn’t help the shudder that coursed through me. He was every bit as evil as Tyson was. He just hadn’t shown me that face yet.
