C14 He Buried Them Alive
When the child shouted, Mrs. Chung felt a twinge of guilt, but seeing Mrs. Hong watching her, she tried to persuade Luo Lingyan. "Yan, how about we give Grandma half a basket?"
"Mom, there are two big baskets of dried fish here. Let's take one!" Mrs. Luh was so excited at the sight of the fish that she was nearly in tears. Selling these baskets could bring in quite a bit of money.
"No way. I want one basket, not a single fish less. Or you can sell them and give me a silver dollar," Mrs. Hong said, grinning from ear to ear, having never seen so much dried fish before.
Who knows if these two baskets would even fetch a silver dollar? Mrs. Hong wanted to gain without effort and even hoped to swindle some money. Not a chance! Not even a single piece of dried fish would be given to them.
Luo Lingyan responded coldly, "What if I say I don't agree?"
"Yeah, we don't agree," the kids chimed in together.
"Mom, let's take it away!"
As Mrs. Luh reached for the basket handles, Luo Lingyan swiftly stepped in front of her, lifted her up, and tossed her aside. With a thud, Mrs. Luh cried out, "Mom, look at how well your daughter-in-law has raised her daughter. Mom, you have to stand up for me! If you don't, I can't go on living."
"Yan..." Mrs. Hong rushed over to help her beloved second daughter-in-law.
"Mom, I just got out of bed rest, and now this fall... I don't think I'll make it. Please, take care of my poor kids, Mom. Stand up for me, or I just can't go on."
"You little brat, I'll teach you a lesson!" Mrs. Hong, worried her precious grandson might not get fed, stood up and slapped at Luo Lingyan.
Luo Lingyan caught Mrs. Hong's wrist and pushed her back, causing her to stumble. She glared at Mrs. Luh. "Someone doesn't want to live, huh? Fine, I'll help her out. Xuan, bring me the shovel. I'll bury her alive."
"Sure, right away."
"Sis, didn't we just plant a peach tree this afternoon? Let's bury her next to it. That way, we won't need to pile up any compost."
"Great idea, let's do that." Luo Lingyan gave Luo Fengjiao a thumbs-up.
"Yan, you can't do this! She's your second aunt!" Mrs. Chung was on the verge of tears.
"Her? My Second Aunt-in-law? She wishes," Lingyan said icily, glaring at Mrs. Luh, who shivered involuntarily.
"Sis, the shovel's here."
"Great, you dig the hole, and I'll drag her out."
Hearing this, Mrs. Luh forgot her pain and tears, scrambling to her feet and stumbling towards the door. Mrs. Hong, sensing the danger, quickly followed. "Wait for me, dear!"
"Wow, big sis is awesome!"
"Second sis, do we have a peach tree? How come I didn't know?"
"Hehe... Second sis was just scaring Aunt and Grandma."
"Alright, let's get back to our frog legs."
As they returned to the table, Lingyan reminded the kids, "What I said about burying Aunt alive was just to scare Grandma and Aunt. Remember, whether it's burying someone or hurting them, you could end up in jail. Especially throwing Aunt like that was wrong. You must never do that, understand?"
"Got it," the kids nodded.
"Mom, don't worry. I'm old enough to know better," Lingyan smiled at Mrs. Chung.
"Good," Mrs. Chung smiled reassuringly. Maybe the kids were right; she and her husband had been too timid and kind, which is why they were often bullied by the second family and the eldest aunt's family. Hopefully, no one would dare mess with them anymore.
"Feng and Xuan did a great job just now. Here, each of you gets a spoonful of frog meat as a reward."
"Thanks, sis."
