C5 Daughter of Dad's mistress

FIVE

He only created an outline of what I was to expatiate on myself and wrote a few key points and I was beyond surprised at his intelligence and flawless writing style.

This was great. He could totally be a writer! I didn't think he was interested in things like this. Joey was his opposite in that field because he believed it was boring and too stressful.

I wanted to thank him but he had left so I made a mental note to do that later or drop a thank you note.

Just then, my phone started beeping. It was from my elder brother.

We weren't so far apart as he was barely two years older than me. And he was like, my best friend.

"Hey Dylan," I said the moment the line connected.

"Hi baby girl, how are you doing?" He was asking. His voice at the other end of the line sounded happy.

"Asides from my devilish cramps, I'm quite okay. You sound happy. What's up, dude?"

I heard him chuckle. "Yeah I am happy. I just got off from a date with my girl."

"Speaking of that, when am I meeting her?"

"Its supposed to be tomorrow. Have you forgotten?"

"Of course not, I was just joking"

I had totally forgotten.

I added, "Can't wait to finally meet this girl of your dreams you won't stop talking about."

"You'd love her just as much as I do, I assure you."

"Okay sir. I better do," I replied picking at the hem of my blouse.

"How's your husband and the new boy?"

"It sounds weird when you call him that," I snorted a laughter. "You make it sound like he is a houseboy or something."

"Sorry, my bad. The non identical annoying twin?"

"Ha that's better. Joey's at work as usual and Julian's fine too."

"That's great. I hope you're doing alright"

There was a tone of concern in his voice.

"Yeah, I'm perfectly alright."

"I gotta hang up now. I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Sure thang. I love you, bye"

"Love you too, baby girl," he responded and there was a click.

I stared at my reflection in the mirror and I was good to go. My curly hair was let down as usual and I had on me an oversized cardigan over shorts and knee high boots.

I lined my lips, applied some gloss and threw some shades over my eyes before grabbing my hand bag.

I met Julian in the sitting room and told him I was heading out. He looked at me for a few seconds before turning back to the television, grunting a "Have fun,"

I didn't reply back and was out the door.

I arrived at the restaurant Dylan and I scheduled and saw him not too long after. His date was late.

"Where's your girl?" I asked as I bent over to hug him and kiss his cheek.

"She'll be here soon. You look great, dude." He told me with a little smile.

Dude. We called each other that. I was his guy and he was my guy as well. After all, we only had each other.

"You look better. Your girlfriend should count herself lucky for hitting an angel like you," I commented dimpling at him.

"Show off," he rolled his eyes and I gave him a show again.

"Not my fault you were born without some," I stuck my tongue out at him.

He looked a lot like me though, just the handsome version of my beautiful face. His hair was as dark as mine, only that it was straight and short.

He had a stubble on his face too and we had the same hazel colored eyes. He was exactly six feet tall and built too. He hit the gym regularly. He took it seriously and I admired that about him.

I couldn't exercise to save my life. Thank God I was blessed with a nice body frame and I didn't need to do much.

We chatted away when I suddenly noticed the girl walking to our table and my face became pale.

She had smiles plastered on her face as she greeted Dylan with a kiss.

She was dressed in a black leather jacket, white inner and matching leather skirt a bit too short. Her short auburn hair was worn in a Bob and she had a bit too much makeup on. She was pretty though and had a little mole at the top of her lip.

"Sorry I'm late." she said apologetically.

"Its okay baby," Dylan replied her and added,"Kara meet my girlfriend. Audrey, this is my sister."

I gaped at her. I knew her already. What in the world? Of all the people in the planet, my brother chose her? I wanted to rip all the hair out of her head.

She stretched a hand but I didn't take it. "This is the Audrey you've been talking about?"

The smiles on both their faces vanished, noticing my countenance had changed.

"Yes, why?"

I looked at her hard in the way that made her uncomfortable.

"Is anything wrong?" Dylan was asking me again.

"Everything is fine," I faked a smile. "Let's get our orders?"

I kept silent throughout the dinner and Audrey was clearly not happy, knowing that I didn't like her much. I could not wait for the meal to be over so I could talk to my brother in private.

After my brother saw her off, he was back at the table looking at me, irritated.

"What the hell was that? You could not allow us enjoy the food and you kept staring daggers at Audrey. What did she do to you huh?"

I folded my hands. "I guess you don't know who she is."

"I don't get it. Who is she?" He asked with lines creasing his forehead.

"That's the daughter of Dad's mistress, in case you're wondering."

"Huh?" He looked at me confused more than the first time.

Yes I had done my digging and research years back. Facts was, my dad cheated. And I hated him and his mistress even more.

He had abandoned us to be with some other woman. My mom had to cater for us all by herself until she finally fell sick and then we lost her five years ago.

Dad had the nerve to show up at her funeral. He already had a new family he was taking care of and his mistress had a child for him years before Mom even died. He had a son with her. The boy was a teenager now.

It was the only child they had together. But before that, his mistress already had a daughter from her divorced husband. That child was Audrey.

I despised cheaters and it was a deal breaker for me.

"Wait, are you trying to tell me Audrey is our step sister or something?"

"No,she isn't. Her Mom already had her with some other man before marrying Dad."

"Are you serious? Wait, how do you know all this?" He shifted, closing the space between us.

"Because I kept tabs on them years ago."

"Why would you do that?"

I looked away. "I just wanted to see how Dad was faring with his new family after leaving us like that. I was bitter and became even more bitter watching him get a happy family while we suffered. He's the reason we suffered as much as we did. He is the reason Mom died."

"Come on, Kara." Dylan said with a frown. "He wasn't the reason Mom died. Don't talk like a child."

"If you had forgotten,Mom was depressed when he left and stopped taking care of herself and started consuming too much alcohol to drown in her sorrow. And later on, she got really sick and we didn't really have money for treatment. Then, she died."

Dylan sighed deeply and held his forehead.

"Well that's not a lie. But I thought you ought to have let it all go by now. Dad chose that family and we could not do anything about it then.Of course, I don't like him but I also don't give two fucks about him or whatever he does with his family."

I kept silent and he took my hands in his.

"Hey listen, don't think about it too much,"

"I wasn't thinking about it," I replied back. "Your girlfriend's face only reminded me of everything."

He cleared his throat. "I hope you're not going to give her a hard time because of this. She's not Dad's daughter."

"But she's the daughter of Dad's mistress. And connected to the family. She looks like her mother alot too. Anytime I see her face, I would definitely be reminded of Dad's betrayal." I said bluntly.

"Kara.."

I stood up. "I have to go, Dylan. I don't want to talk about this anymore, please."

He offered to drive me home and I reluctantly agreed to go with him.
