C2 Unseen Bonds
Aria was sitting at her desk, fingers tapping nervously against the smooth wood as she stared down at the open textbook in front of her. The words were all blurring together, the info just not sticking no matter how hard she tried to focus.
It had been three days since those freaky incidents on campus - the unsettling vision, the glitching electronics, the disembodied voices. And even though the crazy markings on her wrists had basically vanished, Aria could still feel their persistent, pulsing presence. Like they'd become a part of her, an inseparable part of who she was.
Aria shivered, running her fingers over the delicate skin. There wasn't a single visible sign of those intricate, swirling designs, but she could totally sense them there, humming beneath the surface. It was both super unnerving and oddly comforting, a constant reminder that the fantastical legends she'd dismissed were somehow hella real.
With a frustrated sigh, Aria leaned back in her chair, gaze drifting to the window. The campus was bathed in the warm glow of the afternoon sun, students milling about and laughing as they headed to their next class. It all seemed so normal, so ordinary - a stark contrast to the weird, otherworldly stuff that had been going down.
Part of her just wanted to ignore it all, to push those unsettling sensations and visions out of her mind and focus on her studies. Finals were coming up, and she couldn't afford any more distractions. But at the same time, the pull of those mysterious markings was undeniable, like a siren's call that tugged at her very soul.
Aria glanced down at her wrists again, tracing the phantom lines with her fingertips. What the heck did it all mean? Was she really the "destined mate" of some mythical Dragon King, just like that bizarre article had claimed? And if so, what did that even entail? Were there gonna be more freaky occurrences, more inexplicable phenomena?
She shuddered at the thought, her stomach twisting with a mix of fear and anticipation. On one hand, Aria kinda wanted to just write the whole thing off as some crazy stress-induced hallucination. But deep down, she knew the truth was way more complex, way more...extraordinary.
Closing the textbook with a resigned snap, Aria got up and started pacing her tiny apartment. She needed to make a call - was she gonna fully embrace this newfound, mystical aspect of her life, or was she gonna try and push it away, go back to the normal she once knew?
As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in vibrant oranges and reds, Aria couldn't help but feel drawn to that vision she'd experienced on campus. The towering mountains, the swirling crimson sky, the powerful, regal figure who'd reached out to her...it had all felt so real, so vivid, that she couldn't just dismiss it as some random dream.
And then there were the voices - the disembodied whispers that had called her the "King's mate" and urged her to accept her destiny. Aria shuddered, wrapping her arms around herself as a chill ran down her spine. Whatever was going on, it was clear she was now tied to something way bigger, way more profound, than she ever could've imagined.
With a resigned sigh, Aria made her way to the kitchen to grab a quick meal. As she ate, her gaze kept drifting to the silent, unresponsive electronics on the counter. The blackout, the glitches - undeniable proof that the extraordinary had officially invaded her life.
And as Aria settled into bed, the steady thrum of those unseen markings pulsing against her skin, she couldn't help but wonder what the future had in store. One thing was certain - her life was about to change in ways she never could've predicted.
The next morning, Aria blinked awake as the sun's golden rays filtered through the window. As she sat up and stretched, she glanced down at her wrists, half-expecting to see those mysterious markings pulsing and glowing. But the skin was unblemished, save for the faint reddish lines where her fingers had gripped too tight.
With a sigh, Aria swung her legs over the side of the bed and headed to the kitchen for a quick breakfast. There was no point dwelling on the unseen bonds that seemed to tether her to this strange, otherworldly destiny. She had an exam to focus on, and she couldn't afford any more distractions.
As Aria ate, her gaze kept drifting to the dark, silent electronics on the counter - a constant reminder of the bizarre malfunctions from the night before. Shaking her head, she tried to push the thoughts aside, determined to maintain her focus. After a refreshing shower, Aria grabbed her backpack and headed out, intent on finding a quiet spot on campus to dive into her studies.
The walk to the library was uneventful, the familiar sights and sounds of the university a welcome distraction. As Aria settled into a secluded corner, she finally felt herself start to relax. Diving into her textbook, she lost herself in the material, the outside world fading into the background.
It wasn't until her stomach let out a loud rumble that Aria finally glanced up, blinking in surprise at the darkened windows. "Crap, I missed my last class," she muttered, hastily gathering her things and rushing back to her apartment.
The campus was eerily quiet as Aria hurried home, the shadows cast by the street lamps seeming to shift and dance in a way that set her nerves on edge. But she finally reached the safety of her building, collapsing against the door with a relieved sigh.
As Aria stepped into her apartment, though, a sense of unease immediately washed over her. Something...wasn't right. The air felt thick and heavy, charged with a palpable energy that made the hairs on the back of her neck stand up.
Slowly, she reached for the light switch, her heart pounding in her chest. Whatever was waiting for her on the other side, Aria knew she had to face it head-on. Her life was about to get a whole lot more interesting - whether she was ready or not.
Aria took a deep breath and flicked on the lights, bracing herself for whatever might be waiting. But as the room was illuminated, she was met with an unexpected sight - nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Her apartment was exactly as she had left it, with no signs of any intruders or disturbances.
Letting out a shaky exhale, Aria closed the door behind her and stepped further inside, her eyes scanning the familiar surroundings. Maybe she was just being paranoid, her nerves heightened by the strange occurrences of the past few days.
"Pull it together, Aria," she muttered under her breath, setting down her backpack and kicking off her shoes. As she made her way to the kitchen, something caught her eye - her phone, which had been dead earlier, was now lit up with several missed calls and text messages.
Aria's brow furrowed as she picked up the device, her heart racing as she saw the caller ID. It was Lena, her best friend, and she had apparently been trying to reach her for hours.
Without hesitation, Aria tapped the call back button, holding the phone to her ear as it rang. After a few tense moments, Lena's voice came through, laced with obvious relief.
"Aria! Oh my god, where have you been? I've been trying to reach you all night!"
"I'm so sorry, Lena," Aria replied, guilt flooding her. "I was at the library studying and I guess I just lost track of time. What's going on?"
There was a brief pause, and Aria could hear the sound of Lena taking a deep, shaky breath.
"It's...it's your parents, Aria. There's been an accident."
Aria felt the blood drain from her face, her grip on the phone tightening. "What? What happened?" she demanded, her voice quivering.
"I don't know all the details, but the police called me earlier. Your parents...they're in the hospital. It's bad, Aria. You need to get here, now."
Without another word, Aria was out the door, her mind racing as she frantically made her way to her car. The mysterious markings on her wrists were the furthest thing from her mind as she sped through the darkened streets, her heart pounding with worry and fear.
As she pulled into the hospital parking lot, Aria barely remembered to turn off the engine before she was sprinting through the automatic doors, her eyes frantically searching for Lena. She spotted her best friend in the waiting area, her face pale and tear-stained.
"Lena!" Aria called out, rushing to her side. "What happened? How are my parents?"
Lena looked up at her, eyes brimming with sorrow. "I...I don't know, Aria. The police said there was an accident, but they wouldn't give me any details. All I know is that they're in critical condition."
Aria felt her knees buckle, and she sank into the chair next to Lena, her hands trembling. "Oh god, no..." she whispered, her mind spinning with a thousand worst-case scenarios.
As the minutes ticked by, Aria felt herself growing increasingly frantic. Where were the doctors? Why weren't they being given any information? She paced the waiting area, her fingers worrying the fabric of her sweater as she fought back tears.
Just when she felt like she was about to lose her mind, a somber-faced doctor approached them, his expression grave.
"Family of Lucian and Emilia Blackwood?" he asked, and Aria's heart sank.
"Yes, that's us," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "How are they? Please, tell me they're going to be okay."
The doctor's gaze was heavy, and Aria knew in that moment that nothing would ever be the same again.
