C28 What a Strange Move
Time flies by in the blink of an eye.
Liu Gan wore a triumphant grin, as if not even divine intervention could spare Lin Nan from his impending doom.
He was definitely going to fire that guy!
The sales department staff remained stoic, some even looking on with a hint of schadenfreude.
In this performance-driven environment, everyone was a rival, rendering pity and sympathy utterly worthless.
Poor Lin Nan, though. He'd only been at the company for a day and was already on the chopping block.
"Ten!"
"Nine!"
"Eight!"
Liu Gan's excitement escalated, as if adrenaline coursed through his veins.
But at the count of three, the sales department door swung open, and Liu Gan's expression solidified.
Sienna Qin strode in, lugging an oddly shaped snakeskin bag.
Upon spotting Lin Nan, she couldn't help but scold, "I was waiting for you in the parking lot. Why did you come up by yourself? Didn't you realize how heavy this is?"
"Sorry, it slipped my mind. I thought you were ahead of me."
Lin Nan hurried over and relieved her of the bag.
"Sienna, did you make a trip to the countryside? Why else would you haul such a huge sack up here?"
"I bet that bag's full of local produce—probably corn and potatoes, right?"
"Is all this produce meant to be shared with us?"
The sales team buzzed with speculation, clearly tickled by the sight of the snakeskin bag.
Liu Gan smirked, thinking to himself, what does it matter if you're on time?
After all, you can't conjure up cash.
Lin Nan approached his desk, still smiling. "Who says a snakeskin bag can only hold local goods? Why can't it hold money?"
"Money? Don't make us laugh. Who in their right mind would use that to carry cash?" one colleague teased.
"Yeah, what's next? Claiming you unearthed the cash from the soil?" another quipped.
"Who says I didn't?"
Lin Nan let out a sly chuckle and thumped the bag down on his desk.
He deftly untied the knot on the snakeskin bag, revealing a hefty stack of cash inside.
It was unmistakably Renminbi!
The sight left everyone in the room gobsmacked.
Who knew someone would actually use a snakeskin bag to carry money?
"Manager Liu, here's 1.2 million. Please, count it," Westley said with a grin.
Stoddard's face went pale.
He hurried over, opened the bag, and was dumbstruck by the wads of cash.
His complexion turned a sickly shade of gray as he ordered two employees, "Go get the bill counters and tally this up."
The employees fetched the bill counters from a corner and got to work in full view of everyone.
Before long, they had finished counting.
"Boss, it's exactly 1.2 million, to the penny," one employee reported.
Stoddard's face twisted with disbelief.
How could this be?
Westley had managed to recover the bad debt and completed the task so brilliantly.
Did this mean the promise he made to Director Rogers was now utterly ruined?
Caught in a whirlwind of emotions, Sienna stood up and declared, "Fellow colleagues, today Westley has done an exceptional job. His contribution is immense. I propose we all give him a round of applause!"
With that, she started clapping, and soon after, others joined in.
The sales department erupted into a roaring ovation.
Incredible!
They were all in awe of him!
He was a newcomer, yet on his very first day, he had tackled a major issue.
Such feats seemed reserved for fiction and film!
Westley caught Sienna's gaze and felt an immense sense of joy.
He was even brimming with pride.
How did I get to be so incredible?
"Enough, that's enough. Let's not disturb the other departments," Mr. Wood interjected sternly.
His words doused the celebratory mood, and the sales department fell silent once more.
"Time to clock out."
With that curt dismissal, Stoddard made to leave.
Westley quickly intercepted him, "Manager Liu, please wait."
"What else do you want?" Stoddard asked, his face a mask of displeasure.
"Does this mean I've completed my task?" Westley inquired, hands nervously fidgeting.
"Yes."
Despite his reluctance, the undeniable truth forced Liu Gan to concede.
"So, can I claim that 10% bonus you mentioned?" Lin Nan's grin was wolfish, his eyes gleaming with avarice.
"Yes!" Liu Gan spat out the words through clenched teeth.
"Great, then I owe you my thanks."
Lin Nan bounded forward, pulling out twelve stacks of hundred-yuan bills from the snakeskin bag, his excitement palpable.
All the employees looked on with envy.
He'd been on the job for just one day and had already earned 120,000 yuan.
How could he be so fortunate?
Liu Gan couldn't bear to watch Lin Nan gloat and made a beeline for the door.
But before he could exit, Lin Nan's voice stopped him in his tracks.
"Mr. Wood, next time there's an opportunity like this, make sure to come to me. I'm not greedy; the usual ten percent cut will suffice."
With that, Lin Nan planted a triumphant kiss on the stack of cash.
It was oh so sweet!
Liu Gan, fuming, nearly stumbled in his fury.
Damn it! Lin Nan's brazenness was infuriating!
Once outside, Liu Gan hastily dialed a number.
"Sorry, Director Rogers! My plan backfired. The kid actually managed to secure the funds." Liu Gan's voice was tinged with unease.
"I see. Carry on with your work," Olivia Rogers responded, her tone nonchalant.
After the call, Olivia stood up and moved to the window, her gaze sweeping over the cityscape.
From this vantage point, she could even see the ships on the Huai River in the distance.
"Yetta, is there really no way to handle this man?" Olivia asked, her smile tinged with bitterness.
Yetta, her secretary, had overheard the conversation and offered reassurance.
"Director Rogers, maybe it was just his luck this time. Don't stress; we'll figure it out gradually."
"But I'm out of patience! It's been two and a half years. I can't stand living with that man any longer. Every day is agony," Olivia lamented.
"Rest assured, Director Rogers. I'm certain I can find a way to have him out of the company within days," Yetta assured her with confidence.
Olivia Ye turned to Yetta Liang and said, “Siyu, right now, you’re the only person by my side I can trust. I’m counting on you not to let me down.”
“Of course, Director Rogers. You go ahead with your work; just call me if you need anything,” Yetta replied.
After exiting the CEO’s office, Yetta hurried to the restroom.
She checked to make sure no one else was there before locking the door.
Lifting her skirt, she retrieved a SIM card from the stockings on her slender thigh.
Once the SIM card was in place, Yetta dialed a number.
As the call connected, Yetta spoke in a chilling tone, “I need you to dig up information on someone. His name is Westley Lin. He appeared out of nowhere in the Rogers family two and a half years ago. I want all the details you can find on him, the more thorough, the better.”
With her task complete, she removed the SIM card and flushed it down the toilet.
Her behavior was peculiar, to say the least.
