C3 Big Brother will Protect You
"Sweetheart?"
Ruixin's snow-white lashes fluttered; no one had ever called her that before.
Chi Yu looked at the unique little girl in front of him, gently brushing the wounds on her face with a tender touch. His eyes reddened with emotion.
Ruixin, always sensitive to others' feelings, sensed Chi Yu's overwhelming sadness even without looking at him. At home, every attempt to reach out had been met with scolding or worse, leaving her anxious. She didn't want to upset the big brother who had rescued her, but years of fear were hard to shake.
After much hesitation, her small hand trembled as she gently touched Chi Yu's strong, handsome face, trying to offer comfort.
Chi Yu was taken aback, watching her lower her eyes, too afraid to meet his gaze, yet bravely trying to console him. His heart ached intensely.
He wanted to hold her tight but feared hurting her wounds. Instead, he held her close without pressure, letting her rest her forehead against his chest, filled with guilt and regret as he apologized.
"We were in the same city all along! If only I'd been more attentive, I might have found her sooner! Then she wouldn't have suffered so much, wouldn't have lost her voice from the abuse, and wouldn't have changed from a healthy girl with black hair and eyes to this—white hair and gray eyes."
Originally, it was thought that the white hair and gray eyes indicated a serious health issue. However, aside from weakness caused by long-term malnutrition, all hospital tests came back normal, with no other symptoms present.
Should we consult a more specialized professional to rule out any hidden possibilities?
The cool yet gentle scent helped the small child relax from initial tension, eventually even attempting to let down her guard and nestle in his arms, listening to his heartbeat. A faint smile appeared on her little face.
Feeling a slight tug on his shirt, Chi Yu's heart softened. He reached out to gently pat her head and asked, "Xin, are you hungry?"
As expected, there was no immediate response. The doctor had mentioned that due to psychological issues, her reactions might be slower than usual.
All it took was a little extra patience, asking a few more times, and giving her enough time to think and respond.
So, he asked again softly.
This time, Chi Ruixin's stomach growled honestly.
She quickly covered it, her face turning pale!
Frightened, she pushed Chi Yu away. Realizing what she had done, she ignored the needle in her hand and the pain in her body, immediately getting out of bed to kneel before Chi Yu!
She moved so quickly that Chi Yu didn't have time to stop her!
Little Ruixin clasped her hands together, rubbing them anxiously. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry! She didn't mean to push you! She's not hungry, really not hungry! Please don't hurt her! She was wrong!" Her clear, silver-gray eyes brimmed with tears of fear, conveying her message without a word.
Chi Yu gritted his teeth, carefully avoiding her injuries as he lifted her from the bed. His eyes were red as he checked the needle mark on the back of her hand, then gently pulled her into his arms, letting her trembling body rest against his neck.
His voice was strained with emotion. "Don't be scared, don't be scared. It's my fault, I didn't have food ready in time and let you go hungry. It's all my fault! Don't be afraid, I'll protect you!"
Her eyes flickered as she clung tightly to the corner of his shirt, silently sobbing.
"Did I hurt you when I moved you? I'm sorry..."
