C4 He

Noah was so excited, he asked to be carried by his godmother, completely forgetting about his mother. They laughed and joked together as the boy jumped up and down on the seat, thrilled to be at a restaurant for the first time.

"Noah, stop that. You might fall,"

Emily gently reminded her son. Noah ignored her, cuddling into Isabella's arms, seemingly indifferent to his mother's words. Just then, the waiter arrived with fragrant, steaming dishes beautifully arranged. Noah, now three years old, could already eat by himself. He sat on his chair, adorably scooping rice into his mouth. The three of them ate and laughed happily together. Suddenly, Noah stopped and looked up at Emily, his sparkling eyes filled with innocence as he called out,

"Mommy..."

before collapsing. Isabella quickly caught him, while Emily jumped up from her chair, frantically searching for his medicine in her bag, but her hands were trembling uncontrollably. The bottle was nowhere to be found, so she dumped out the contents of her bag. Grabbing the medicine from the pile, she quickly gave it to her son with some water. But Noah started coughing violently and began to bleed from his nose.

Blood trickled down from his nose as Emily, now panicked, held her son tightly. Isabella immediately drove them to the hospital. The meal had barely begun, and just a moment ago, Noah had been smiling sweetly at her, but now he lay pale and weak in her arms.

"Emily... don't worry too much. We're almost at the hospital. Noah will be fine, I'm sure of it," Isabella tried to comfort her, seeing that her face was as white as Noah's.

Emily tried to calm herself, holding her trembling son tightly, clenching her hands to stop them from shaking. Noah was quickly taken into the emergency room. Outside, Emily was beside herself with worry, pacing back and forth. If anything happened to her son, she wouldn't be able to live. She prayed to the heavens to keep her son safe.

The door finally opened with a click, and a middle-aged doctor stepped out, removing his mask. Before he could finish saying,

"Who is the family of the patient Noah..."

Emily and Isabella rushed over. "Doctor... how is my son... Doctor..." Emily asked, her face pale with fear.

"Are you Noah's mother?"

"Yes, I am." The doctor sighed, observing her expression before deciding to speak.

"Young lady, your son's condition is worsening. I believe you're aware that your son has leukemia. If a suitable bone marrow donor isn't found soon, and surgery isn't performed, I'm afraid... you should prepare yourself..."

The doctor's words hit her like a bolt of lightning. Emily collapsed, caught by Isabella. Noah... her son... Emily looked sorrowfully at her son, lying weakly on the hospital bed. Isabella was by her side, comforting her.

"Emily... I'll ask around among my friends. Maybe we can find a bone marrow donor for the boy..."

Tears welled up in her eyes. She wished she could take on all of Noah's pain. He was so small, yet he had to bear this terrible illness.

"Isabella, do you think this is divine punishment? At first, I thought of abandoning him. Now that I've given birth to him, he's sick with leukemia. Everyone I love leaves me..."

First, it was her grandfather, then her mother. Even the man she had called "father" for so many years had taken advantage of her. Now, even her only son, whom she loved dearly, was being taken away...

"Emily, don't say that. Noah will be okay. He's strong, and he'll get through this..."

Emily buried her face in her knees, her tears soaking through her jeans. Those days, she stayed at the hospital to take care of Noah. Isabella wanted to stay as well, but knowing her friend was busy with work, Emily gently insisted she leave. Before leaving, Isabella reminded her,

"If anything happens, call me right away."

"I will."

Today, Noah was feeling better than the previous days. He sat up and played with his toys, even when the doctor came to give him a shot, he bravely extended his arm without crying. He was so adorable that everyone who saw him wanted to hold him. The worry in Emily's heart eased a little as she stroked her son's hair. Just then, her phone rang-it was Isabella.

"Isabella?"

"Emily, I have some good news. A major TV station is looking for an editor. Isn't that your field?"

"Really?"

"Yes! I'll send you the interview schedule. I'll take care of Noah for you."

"That's wonderful! Thank you so much, Isabella."

"No problem at all."

This was a chance from the heavens. Her mother had once been a famous editor at a major TV channel, and Emily had always wanted to follow in her footsteps. Since returning to Vietnam, she had been searching for a job, but with no luck. Now that an interview opportunity had come up, she couldn't pass it by.

After receiving the interview schedule, she turned to talk to Noah, who immediately snuggled into her lap, acting cute.

"Mommy, when can I go home?"

"Soon, and when we do, I'll buy you the superhero toy and snacks you like, okay?"

"Hooray!"

Emily smiled, patting her son's head.

The next day, Isabella came to take care of Noah, while Emily went for the interview. As she stepped out of the hospital, the sky suddenly darkened, and a heavy rain began to pour. Emily hurried to the roadside to hail a taxi, but they were all occupied. Then, she spotted a black car parked nearby and quickly ran over to ask.

"Excuse me, could you give me a ride to S TV station?"

The driver remained silent, so Emily assumed he agreed. She couldn't miss the interview, so she hurriedly opened the door and got in. To her surprise, there was another man in the car. She was stunned for a few seconds before biting her lip and sitting at a distance from him.

The man didn't glance at her or say a word. Emily could only see his profile-a sharp nose and a tailored suit that fit him perfectly, highlighting his impressive figure. Even just sitting there, he exuded an aura of authority and coldness.

Lucas paid no attention to Emily, as if she didn't exist. Only when Wei Lin saw that his boss didn't object did he start driving to the TV station. A faint scent of mint lingered in the car, making Emily's heart race. She stole another glance at the man beside her. His icy demeanor was intimidating.

Could it be...? The man from four years ago, in that dim, hazy room... she hadn't seen his face clearly, but his aura had been completely different from that of an ordinary person. Emily thought that her recent anxiety over Noah might have made her recall that man. Even so... she wanted to get a closer look at him. Acting on impulse, she leaned slightly toward Lucas. But before she could take a closer look, the driver, Wei Lin, suddenly braked hard.

The abrupt stop caused her to lurch forward, her head about to hit the seat in front when Lucas quickly reached out to shield her. Her forehead hit his large hand, still a little painful. Emily winced, while Wei Lin was surprised by Lucas's actions. His boss had never shown any compassion toward women and was notoriously cold-hearted. Yet today, he had protected Emily from hitting her head. It was indeed strange. Emily finally regained her composure and stepped back, not daring to look at him.

She quickly opened the car door and got out, unaware that the button of her coat had come undone, exposing the lace of her innerwear. Lucas's gaze inadvertently fell on a ring he had spotted. Assuming it was hers, he picked it up and followed her. With his long legs, Lucas caught up to Emily in just a few strides. He grabbed her arm, his voice cold and firm.

"Wait."

Emily turned her head to look at him, and the moment she saw his strikingly handsome face, she was stunned.

"You dropped this ring."

He placed the ring in her palm and said no more, turning back toward the luxurious black car.
