C14 First day

Sloane's Pov

I couldn't sleep all night because I was scared of what awaited me. With a forced smile, I went live on Instagram and told my fans that I was going to be a CEO. That was my way of accepting defeat in a battle against my dad. He had the upper hand once again.

The news of me becoming a CEO splashed on the internet just an hour after my Instagram live session. My dad, through Hilda, sent me a note of congratulations and referred me to my uncle, Fred who was a manager in the company, to educate me on how the company worked.

My dad had come to terms with the fact that I wasn't going to quit modelling.I told him I could juggle the both and I meant it. Hilda cancelled everything on my schedule today as I prepared for work. An hour later, I was at the company. I had to go through another entrance because the paparazzi were already in front of the company, waiting to interview me. I shook my head as I watched them battle with the security team because of me. Perks of being a celebrity.

I met my uncle Fred when I got into the office. He was a short father of three who maintained his athletic build. I didn't know how I was related to him I just called him 'uncle' because my dad told me to.He smiled when he saw me "Your dad has ordered me to educate you on the company system and reduce your workload. Now follow me, I'll show you to your office"

I mustered up my courage and followed him with Hilda following me from behind.I took note of the office as I entered. It was very large. It had well spaced cubicles and it was well ventilated. I also took note of the employees. They were few in number and they all stood in surprise, when they saw me. Some began to take pictures and it made me hope that something was going to be done about that.

I didn't want anything concerning my work here to go viral. I followed uncle Fred into the CEO's office. My new office was so large. It had two cushions by the side and two red office chairs. I could tell they were comfy by just looking at them.

The office had been redesigned to meet my taste, because I knew my dad didn't like flowers on his office desk and the present colour of the wall. The office was so beautiful, I let out a gasp.Uncle Fred tapped lightly on the wall. "The wall is soundproof" This was beyond amazing. I felt less unhappy now.I went behind the table and made myself comfortable in the office chair. My uncle handed me a document.

"Scan through it" he said. I read the contents of the document. It was a contract which stated that my employees were not allowed to post anything concerning my life on social media or they were going to be sued and fired. I smiled after I was done reading. I liked it.

At least, the scandals were going to reduce now that I was a CEO.

"I sent a message to the employees to wait for you in the meeting room" Uncle Fred said. "There you'll have your first meeting with them. Let's go" and with that, I followed him to the meeting room which was next to my soundproof office.

The meeting room was also very spacious. I counted exactly twenty employees who sat around the meeting table. The meeting table was a huge, white and circular table. I cleared my throat to make a brief introduction.

"I'm Sloane Anderson, and I'm your new boss. My dad stepped down a few days back and he handed over the company to me. I hope to enjoy a good working space with you all" I placed a cosmetic smile on my face and I took my seat with Hilda seating next to me.The employees were already with the document I read earlier, so the lot of them had already signed it.

"You all may now introduce yourselves to your new boss" Uncle Fred instructed the employees and they began to introduce themselves.I stayed there, seated and bored to death. My gaze roamed around the area until it finally landed on him.

I almost jolted up from my seat.It was the guy I met at the mortuary. The guy who I almost got into another scandal with.I stifled a gasp. I badly wanted to ask him out at first sight but I restrained myself. And I felt really sad to have left him like that when I was on the run from Hilda and those men.He was seated adjacent to me, from across the table and I could swear that, even though this wasn't my first time of seeing him, the sight in front of me, took my breath away. I tried to tear my gaze away from him but I couldn't. I just couldn't.

I stared at his jet black hair, at how unrestrained, curly and long it was. I stared at his face. A face which I didn't want to stop looking at. I never fell in love with a guy before I dated him, I went for looks and a little bit of attraction instead. I was all about men's looks and I wasn't lying when I said that this man seated adjacent me, was the most gorgeous guy I had ever set my eyes on. I continued to stare at him, unrelentingly. He too wasn't listening to the employees introduction. His gaze roamed too and he stared at nothing in particular, until his gaze landed on me.

Finally!

I held his gaze and gave him a small smile to show that I recognised him but he didn't return my smile.

He just looked away from me so easily, that it felt better if he didn't look at me in the first place.

I looked down at my hands and I noticed that they were clenched in tight fists. I only clenched my fists whenever I felt nervous and I just did it now, unconsciously, as this man stared at me. I usually didn't feel nervous around men, it was the other way round, so why this man?

Maybe it was a excitement. I felt it flow through my blood. Why was I having such a visceral reaction to him when I barely knew him? It finally reached the man's turn to introduce himself and he stood up.Damn! I couldn't stop my gaze from raking over his build.

"Darren" he said. "Darren Salazar"I didn't get to hear his name the last time but I was happy to finally know it.I felt like a terrible boss. First day at work and I didn't even care to know my employees names, except from one. Darren.

I felt a thrill go through me. My day began with a crappy note but now, I suddenly felt happy because of a guy I didn't know.He was going to serve as a perfect distraction. I hated what it felt like to be a CEO but maybe seeing Darren everyday was going to make it fun.The employees were done with introducing themselves and Uncle Fred briefed them on a few things before dismissing them.

"Do you like your employees?" Uncle Fred asked after they were gone.

I smiled. "Ofcourse I like my employees" I liked only one, though.

I turned to Hilda."I have an assignment for you" I said to her "it will be the first work you'll do for me as a CEO"

"What do you want me to do?" She asked

"I want you to set up a meeting with I and someone. That guy, Darren Salazar"

I smirked in anticipation. "I want to see him after work"
