C4 Will, Mike, or Sam
Jeremy looks at Luke as he's finishing the last bite of his steak and asparagus, knowing that Luke has come up with attractive half-thought-through plans and ideas in the past but always will listen to his ideas. Jeremy shallows his bite and says, " I'm interested in hearing about your " perfect plan " for Alexandra's training. "
Luke continues to explain his plan: " Since Omaha is coming down to play Denver in week four of the season, how about I have my coach Mike Jones help you coach Alexander a day before game day? I'll have the team come down a day before if you agree to pay for food and lodging for the team with that extra day in exchange for Mike's help coaching Alexandra. What do you think? "
Now a little information on Mike Jones, He was an All-pro linebacker for the New York Titans; he played eleven years in the NAFL for the Titans. Jones was also a nightmare for offenses and an All-American linebacker at the University of Florida State. Mike Jones led the Omaha cattlemen to their first League title the year before.
Jeremy, can't believe that Luke came up with a decent plan for once, answers Luke: " That's a pretty good idea, Luke. I like it, and I'm willing to make that deal. I hope you're willing to be friends after the Cannibals devour the Cattlemen."
They both laugh, and Luke and Jeremy shake hands on the deal. They finish up at the steakhouse a little bit later and go to a cigar lounge for a nightcap to finish out the night. Jeremy offered Luke to stay at his house, but Luke politely declined to state that he could stay at the hotel and use it as a business expense.
They go their separate ways; while headed home Jeremy thinks about what he was going to do about coaching Alexandra. He honestly does want to help her, on top of sticking it to Terrell Hillis, but Alexandra deserved to be on the Cannibals this year. Jeremy thinks for a bit; after getting home and getting ready to take a shower to get cleaned up for bed, he decides after thinking that Alexandra needs to pick a spot as a linebacker so that Jeremy can best train her to maximize her skill set. Jeremy thinks about how about set up Alexandra for success till he falls asleep naked in his king bed in downtown Denver.
When he drifts off to sleep, he dreams of the hit that ended his career. Jeremy steps up to the offensive line and surveys the defense. He sees the defense faking like they were going to do an all-out blitz; Jeremy sees right through the disguise and sees that the defense is going to do an overload blitz on the weak side; Jeremy shouts out an audible for the offensive line to shift to the left to cover the blitz. He wanted to check the coverage quickly, and he motioned the fullback to align up by the tight end, then motioned him over by the left tackle.
He then motioned the wide receiver to the tight end and motioned back to his usual spot. As the receiver is in motion, Jeremy sees the cornerback following the receiver, so he knows exactly what the defense will do coverage-wise; he fake hikes and sees the safeties flinch back. It's an overload blitz cover two-man with the linebackers doing zone coverage except for the right side Mike linebacker and the will linebacker blitzing on the overload. Jeremy grins as he snaps the ball; he heads to the running back and fakes the handoff while rolling out laser-focused on the wide-open receiver. He goes to throw the ball, then BOOM!!
Jeremy has a hypnic jerk and wakes up scared, grabbing his elbow and knee, sweating profusely, and deep breathing. Jeremy starts waking up while realizing that he just had a nightmare about the hit that ended his career, and that has never happened before to him. He gets in the shower to rinse off the sweat; while he's in the shower, Jeremy tries to figure out why he had the nightmare of the hit. It's been over three years since it happened, and now the nightmare that seemed like it just happened. Jeremy cooks a classic English breakfast without the blood pudding, along with an Irish coffee. He sat down and ate his breakfast, checking emails and reviewing all his business/ investment reports while watching TV.
Once he finishes breakfast and reviews reports, he starts his workout routine by running on the treadmill. His workout consisted of curls, single-arm dumbbell presses, single-arm dumbbell rows, lunge rotational twists, Back "Y" raises, fire hydrants, side isometric wall pushes, Dumbbell back fly, shoulder rotations, and the leg press. Jeremy liked working out because he could release his frustration and anger productively. His workout helped him out as a quarterback, but he needed a workout for Alexandra if she needed or wanted one because everyone's different some players enjoy working out, and some don't. While Jeremy was thinking about a workout for Alexandra, he started prepping for the first of two preseason games for the Cannibals.
He wanted to make sure that everyone in the family would be entertained at the games because he knew that not everyone in the family are football fans. His mother absolutely hated football and all sports, but she understood his love of sports; she would've instead Jeremy gone into baseball instead of football. She was thrilled when Jeremy retired from football, especially after getting injured. Even though he hates football now, Jeremy wants to ensure that fans and their families are taken care of because the fans were always there for him, and it wasn't the fans' fault that he got injured and couldn't play again.
He would sign anything for the fans or stop and take a picture for fans, and he always made sure that he took care of them. It was about time for Jeremy to head to the Coliseum for practice and get to coach Alexandra. When Jeremy got to the arena, Alexandra was already there waiting for him, and he was impressed that she was early as practice didn't start for another hour. Alexandra followed Jeremy into the arena, and she first went to the field while Jeremy went to his office to take care of some things.
Alexandra holding her workout bag is standing at midfield, envisioning playing on this field for the Cannibals, where she'd be the star linebacker making tackles, intercepting footballs, and making big hits. Alexandra had a hard life, but she worked to get what she wanted out of life, and things were finally falling into place for her.
Alexandra is taken out of her vision by someone yelling; when she comes to, Terrell screams at her, stating: " You're not allowed to be here. You were cut yesterday, and it's a closed practice. Get Lost NOW. "
Alexandra, with a chip on her shoulder, fires back," Your boss, Mr. Davis, invited me here, and I'm not practicing with the team. You don't need to be rude to people just because you don't like how things are going. It also seems like you have a problem with me, I don't know what I did to you, but you need to take it down a few notches. "
Terrell Hillis' blood is boiling, and irritated yells back in her face, " I'll see about that with Mr. Davis. You don't get to tell me what to do, and you need to go back home and get in the kitchen where you should be."
Alexandra was about to retort when Jeremy coming from the other end of the field, yelled, " TERRELL, Shut your DAMN mouth. It would be best if you didn't treat anyone like that, that's strike one, and I should fire you right now; I'm going to be looking into your contract concerning your conduct. Right now, You're looking at a fine of one week unpaid with a possible termination after I look at your contract for conduct detrimental to the team. I hope you didn't cost the team a partnership, Terrell." he said before looking over to Alexandra and lowering his tone, "Ms. Jordan, I'm so sorry that my head coach treated you so poorly. I hope you will consider us as a partner despite the treatment that you have received so far. "
Alexandra picking up what Jeremy was doing, replied, " Well, Mr. Davis, we'll have to see, and we have much to talk about; let's talk during practice at your usual spot? "
Jeremy smiles and says, " Yes, ma'am, at midfield, about 20 rows up where the desk is at. "
Alexandra turns and heads to the spot that was talked about.
Terrell, enraged at Jeremy, sternly says, " I don't know what you're trying to do, but I will not stand for your shenanigans. This is my team, and you're not going to fine me. It would be best if you let me do my job and left me to run the team. "
Jeremy, disgusted with Terrell, replies, " Get it through your thick head that it's not your team, it's my team, and I am letting you run the team this year. You're walking on thin ice from now on, I WILL be fining you the bare minimum with possible termination, and if you keep pushing your luck with me, I'll take it to the news outlets that you were fined or fired due to conduct detrimental to the team. You'll be lucky to get another coaching job after that. Now get ready for practice. "
Terrell Hillis, huffing and puffing, turns and heads to the locker room, muttering under his breath.
Jeremy heads to where Alexandra is sitting at. Once Jeremy gets to Alexandra, he sits down and apologizes, " I'm so sorry for that interaction; you should never be treated like that. I'm dealing with him, and I promise he will not do that again. I know you can handle yourself; I just had to jump in because he's, unfortunately, my employee, and I wasn't sure what he would do. Thank you, by the way, for going with what I was saying about the partnership; that worked out perfectly with Terrell. "
Alexandra looks at Jeremy, saying, " I should thank you for being a buffer. I don't know what his problem is, but I think there's something seriously wrong with him because he went over the top over something so small. " Alexandra then smiles and continues, " I appreciate that you through curveball at him to show him that his actions could have significant consequences, so I had no problem going along with your partnership statement. It was amusing, and it was interesting to feel like I was on the same page as you. "
Jeremy smiled and reached down to grab a bottle of 86-proof whiskey. He pulled up the bottle imported into a glass with three cold whiskey stones and poured about three fingers worth right before practice.
Alexandra looked at Jeremy with disapproval and said, " Is it a good idea to drink that if you're coaching me today? I'm not trying to judge or say anything, but I never had any coach drink alcohol before practice or a game. Did you do this before games as a player? "
Jeremy smiles angrily and says, " I didn't drink while I was a player; I started drinking after I retired to deal with watching football. I hope you never have to have this feeling. I only have this one glass to get through practice. We'll do a light training today and get deeper into training."
Alexandra, not satisfied nor happy about Jeremy's response, went along with it for now, but she was going to keep an eye on the drinking.
Jeremy then asked her, " Which linebacker position have you played, and which one do you want to play going forward? "
Jeremy takes a sip while Alexandra replies, " I've been playing the Sam position, and I enjoy playing that; I would like to continue being the Sam linebacker. "
Jeremy sarcastically laughs, saying, " As a Quarterback, I hate you. We'll see what we do to keep you at the Will position in your career. I will tell you tho, in the indoor football world, there's not a Sam linebacker, just a Mike and a Will linebacker, really with an occasional blitzing. So the plan will be to as a Sam linebacker and teach you to be an indoor Mike or Will linebacker. Does that sound good to you? "
A Will linebacker or also called the weakside linebacker, lines up on the backside of the formations, mostly blitzing and making sure that no running plays gash through the weakside of the defense. The Will linebacker is usually the fastest and used in coverage
The Mike Linebacker or also called the middle linebacker, is essentially the quarterback of the defense. They will relay information to the other positions on defense to best set up the defense for what the offense will bring. A Mike linebacker will blitz and go into pass coverage. They must be the jack of all trades as a linebacker.
A Sam linebacker or also called the Strong side linebacker, typically will line up on the side of the right end or whatever side has the most players lined up. They usually are to cover the tight end or running back and can also disrupt the tight end at the point of attack. They are usually the better tackler and are used in the pass rush.
Alexandra nods in agreement, and Jeremy continues, " Do you have a workout schedule, or do you need one? Do you like working out? "
Alexandra responds, " I do like to work out, but I don't have a workout schedule because I haven't figured out one that works for what I want to do. I want one that'll help me be a better linebacker along with helping me reach my goals, but I don't want to be too muscular or fit as I like how I look."
Jeremy thinks for a bit, then says," Ok, I'll figure out a workout schedule for you that works for what you want to do without messing up your body. "
As practice starts, Jeremy and Alexandra go over and dissect plays as they happen. Jeremy shows Alexandra what the quarterback is doing during the pre-snaps and asks her what she needs to relay to the defense, so it can adjust to what the offense is going to do during the pre-snap.
Jeremy has Alexandra analyze not only what the linebackers were doing right or wrong but also the whole defense. He tests her on what she thinks the offense will run, a pass or run play and what play she would run to counter the offense. Practice ends, and the coaches and players head to the locker room.
Jeremy hands Alexandra his keys to the VIP room for her to get changed for training. Alexandra comes out wearing a sports bra, a crop top jersey, and athletic leggings.
While Alexandra is stretching, Jeremy speaks up, saying, " Since I'm going to be coaching you and we're going to be spending more time together. Why don't you tell me about yourself to be able to coach you better? "
Alexandra looks up while warming up and replies, " Well, where do I start? "
