C12 CHAPTER 12

THE HYBRID'S CURSE

BY JINX

CHAPTER 12: THE BLOODY GHETTO

Michael and Gaia had almost made it home, when Gaia quickly sniffled the air, and her face darkened, as her eyes changed, her fangs already out. Michael paused in his tracks as he could see Gaia had stopped too. He receded his steps back to her, and immediately panicked seeing her fangs and eyes. They were in public for crying out loud.

“What the hell do you think that you are doing? Cover them, anyone could see you, it is freaking morning.” He whispered but she didn’t pay him any attention as her nose kept inhaling, the sweet smell of blood, intoxicating her. Animal blood, and this was not any ordinary animal blood, this was different, purer, and more intoxicating.

She had no control over her vampirism side. It felt as if the blood was calling her, whispering in her ears, muttering sweet words to her ears, as she kept on wanting it. Immediately getting the scent and where it was coming from, she tried to move towards it, but was held by Michael.

Without hesitation, she flung him to the side as he hit the dumpster and fell to the ground groaning in pains, without a glance at him, and a smirk on her face. She zapped quickly heading to the location.

Michael on the other hand, held his throbbing head as he groaned and struggled to his feet. What the hell was that? That was not Gaia. The strength was incomparable. It felt different, more wicked, more angry…angry at what? And she didn’t spare him a glance, or even showed remorse for what she had done. That wasn’t his cousin. No it couldn’t be. He looked at the direction she had gone in.

“Where the hell was she going?” He couldn’t leave her on her own, he had to go after her. maybe it was compulsion, but who on earth would dare compel a pure breed vampire. He couldn’t even compel her.

He quickly sprinted at a paranormal speed, allowing his vampirism side to take control of things this time around as he completely turned off his humanity... he got her scent as clear as a crystal and went after her.

Gaia, on the other hand getting there a bit early, she ventured forward, when she saw blood smeared on the pavement and wall. She saw a dead big dog, with blood spilled out but it wasn’t his that had attracted her, stepping gingerly over it, as her instinct kicked in. this was a werewolf, found in the street. How on earth could this be possible, but it wasn’t what had attracted her. the scent that had brought her here, had quickly vanished, someone else was here. Something powerful, something wounded, but what? Human? Wolf? First the hooded creature and now this? In less than hours? What the hell was going on here?

Within seconds, Michael was beside her, in the street she was in. he quickly forced the other part of him, as he could see what happened here. He saw the bloody bath.

“Was there a mini war and we didn’t get the memo?” He said as a joke to Gaia who ignored him, crouching next to the dead wolf, as she poked at it, but no response.

“Okay, rude.” He muttered underneath his breath, as he went back to the gruesome sightseeing. He could see the intestines and guts splattered all over the face and quickly had a reflex action. He almost vomited. The sight of the blood disorienting him for a bit, as Gaia rolled her eyes.

“You know for the heir, to the pack of vampire, you make a wimpy leader. It is blood, this is what we delish in. why gagging. Besides what the fuck could have happen….”

She was caught short by Michael who yelled,

“Gaia watch out,” as she whirled around. She saw the wolf expanded for a bit in the air, fear quickly creeping in, and paralyzing her, unable to move but was quickly covered by Michael who gave out a groan.

His back had been mulled, by the wolf, as his claws were broken in it, and the wolf fell to the ground, dead, before it reached the ground.

“Michael!” Gaia screamed holding him, as he knelt down, staggering under the pain, gnashing his teeth, as blood trickled down on his clothes, the claws still stuck in.

“Pull it out, now.” He said in a whisper as she quickly nodded her head, and circled to his back. Wincing at the state she saw him, she quickly got to work, pulling out all of the claws, as Michael kept his pain to stifles and grunts.

“I got it all.” She announced as she helped him, stand up, still supporting his body as she wrapped his shoulders around her neck and held tightly to his waist, as they struggled out of the street. The street was still lonely so that was probably the only good news they had.

“First, you threw me to the dumpster and now I was almost killed by a wolf. Wow, what a delightful walk in the woods.” Michael said sarcastically as Gaia closed her eyes, for a brief moment, allowing sadness to wash over her.

“Am so sorry, I didn’t know what came over me back there, twice, I wasn’t myself when I pushed you and I still wasn’t myself when the wolf attacked. Please forgive me.” She said sorrowfully as Michael grunted.

“Don’t worry, it will heal. Just get me home. I need the comfort of my bed, to…not cry. He said as a joke livening up her dampened mood a bit as she smiled and said,

“You know that you won right? The race. So remember you get to call shot gun for a week, and I will do it.” She looked at him, as he smirked.

“Perfect, time to get my bucket list then.” He said as they cracked up, once more laughing as they made their way back home.
