THE HYBRID'S CURSE

BY JINX

CHAPTER 9

“Okay…. about?”

“About us, to be precise. I feel that there is a problem between us.” Leo said slowly.

“What do you mean? I don’t understand what you are saying.” Anya said.

“What I am trying to say is that Anya, you are a sweet and innocent girl, fun to be around, kind, loyal, intelligent, but….”

“But what? Leo, what is it that you are trying to say?” Anya said as tears began to fill her eyes.

“I am sorry, but I can’t continue this relationship with you anymore. I seriously can’t” Leo said as he stood up.

Anya held him by the waist and knelt down crying, “please tell me what I did, Leo please, I am sorry, I will not do it again, just don’t leave me, I am begging you, please don’t leave me.”

“You didn’t do anything wrong, you are not to be blamed. It’s me, it’s all my fault. You are not the cause of anything.” Leo said trying to free himself from her grip.

Leo, please don’t do this to me, I love you so much, you promised that we were going to get married, and have our cubs. We were going to be happy. What happened.

“Reality happened, I am sorry for toying with your feelings but the truth was I never loved you, I just used you to get what I wanted and now, I am tired of you, I don’t want it anymore.”

Leo said as he succeeded in freeing himself from her and walked to the door.

“Is it about the fact, that we have never…? I will give it to you now, please just don’t go. I am ready now.” Anya said trying to use her last chance at begging him not to leave.

“I am sorry, Anya, but it’s over.” Leo said as he walked out the door leaving a weeping mess behind.

Alpha Romeo made his way to the town’s bar after visiting the clinic. He went in there and sat down as he ordered for a drink. He had intended to wash away his pains with whiskey.

The bartender gave him his order, as his wolf within wasn’t happy about the drinking.

“You know, that we need to be alert, we are walking on enemy’s territory. Why do you want to get drunk?” The wolf growled at him, he wasn’t happy about this one bit. He knew that getting drunk, in an enemy town, was the worst thing, that could happen, especially at a time like this.

“Pipe it down, I am so tired of everything. I am tired of all the burden and weights that I am crying on my shoulder and now you don’t even want me to have a drink.”

“Okay, have all the drink you want. It’s your fault if something happened to you. Don’t say I didn’t warn you,” his wolf concluded before going silent.

Romeo sighed as he drank the whiskey in one gulp. He was so tired, the war had taken a lot of things from him, his mum, his happiness, his friends, his peace and most importantly…. Her. But he kept on struggling. He didn’t give up, but right now he just felt like giving up.

The bartender kept on refilling his glass for him, until the 20th cup. Romeo decided that he had enough and wanted to leave. He asked the bartender how much was his money but the bartender replied that it was on the house, that he looked like he needed it.

Romeo thanked him then made his way outside. It was pitch black, now ought to be after 1, he couldn’t return to the pack this night because his vision was disoriented, he thought of finding a place to spend the night, then return back to the pack this next morning.

He staggered, leaning on the wall for support, he had tried calling his wolf out to help him with his enhanced vision but he had been shut out. Guess it was just him then. He had barely gone far, when he heard some growling in front of him.

He paused as he listened, the growls surrounded him and he knew instantly, that it was more than one, he squinted as he saw it was about five big black wolves.

“Oh, come on, seriously.” He cursed under his breath as he tried to get his footing.

Just then, he heard a footstep approaching them.

“Well, well, well, if it isn’t the Alpha of the crescent moon park. What is an alpha as important as you doing here all alone in this enemy town?”

“I know that voice.” Alpha Romeo thought as he looks up and saw that it was the bartender from earlier.

“You! You did this to me.” Romeo said trying to focus his vision.

“I just drugged you, nothing much, you were the one who let your guard down. We could sniff you the instant you came to town, we followed you to the clinic when you met our favorite doctor Lily but God only knows what you want with her because she’s a human, then we spied on you till you came to the bar. When we figured you were alone, we decided to pay you a little visit.” The bartender said as the wolves growled in anticipation of a kill.

“So, what’s your big plan now, that you have gotten me, keep me hostage and demand for a ransom? You rogue wolves do that best. Romeo said

“Oh, we do, but we are going to make an exception with you, seems the word on the block is that your pack is currently fighting a war and if you are dead, your pack has no chance of winning, so we are going to make sure that you stay dead. The bartender said with finality.

“Why are you doing this? Helping the enemy?” Romeo asked.

“because they have helped us in more ways that you could possibly could, that’s why. Sic him boys.” The bartender ordered as the wolves attacked.

************************

Anya woke up the next morning around 6am, her head throbbing from immense pain, she saw that she had slept off, on the floor after crying. She initially thought it was a bad dream but after she felt the aching hole in her heart, she knew that it was true.

She grabbed her table for support as she pulled herself up. Her head was starting to split into two, and her nose and incisors began to itch her. Her drugs must have worn off, she dragged herself to where she normally kept it, but she didn’t see it. It was just…. gone.

She searched furiously for it under her bed, table, drawers, kitchen but she didn’t see it again. Her nose was starting to itch her more painfully as she could smell blood, mixed with peppermint.

She stumbled out of her dorm as she tried to knock on Liam’s door but the music was blaring loudly so he couldn’t hear her. Apart from that, the hallway was empty as it was still early, she stumbled down the stairs as the scent of the blood became more intense. Against her will, she followed the scent down the creepy alley where she had always steered clear away from, because of the hustlers and rapist that normally hung around there, but today, it was empty.

She ventured forward, when she saw blood smeared on the pavement and wall. She saw a dead big dog, with blood spilled out but it wasn’t his that had attracted her, stepping gingerly over it, she came face to face with a human being. Coming closer, she could see that it was a male, probably in his mid-twenties or so, covered with claw marks and blood gushing from every part of his body. He looked dead, already. Valerie closed her mouth in order not to scream, or vomit. The blood was too much; it would be a freaking miracle if he was still alive.

She slowly touched his neck to feel his purse when she was immediately grabbed by his hand. She froze as the eyes opened and stared at her, after looking at her for about 5 seconds, he softened his grip on her hand and whispered “Help me,” before slipping into unconsciousness once more.
