C29 This Man She

Gu Yi was still shaken as he drove away from the new city with Zhan Yeling in tow. In hindsight, he regretted suggesting that Director Zhan visit Xiong Miao's neighborhood to deliver her payment in person.

Upon returning home, Xiong Miao felt utterly drained.

"Mommy, I miss you so much."

"Mommy, I miss you."

"Mommy, I miss you..."

"Mommy."

"Mommy."

"Mommy."

As soon as she stepped through the door, six little bundles of joy scurried over on their tiny legs and enveloped her in a group hug. Bear's plump cheeks nuzzled against her calves, leaving a trail of warm, damp snot and tears on her legs.

The other five boys clung to her legs with looks of dejection, each seeking her attention.

Xiong Miao's heart ached at the sight. She knelt down, gently wiped Bear's tears away, and then sat her on her lap, wrapping her arms around Lele and Junjun, who were closest to her.

"Mommy missed you all too. Have my little ones had dinner yet?" No matter what difficulties she faced outside, being with her adorable children always made her forget all her troubles. Nothing was more important than her little ones.

"Mhm, we've eaten. We've been very good and well-behaved," the sixth baby affirmed earnestly.

"Mommy, we want to shoot commercials to help you make money," Junjun said, his delicate features creased with concern as he pouted, feeling sorry for his mommy.

"Yes, we can earn money too!" Qianqian nodded gravely, supporting Junjun's sentiment.

Even at three and a half years old, they could see how exhausted their mother was every day.

Xiong Miao had been holding back her struggles, but hearing her children's thoughtful words, she couldn't help but feel a swell of emotion, and tears began to pool in her eyes.

She tilted her head back, blinking rapidly to push the tears away, and fought to keep her voice steady, "You're all still so young. If you want to be stars, let's wait until you're a bit older, okay?"

"Mmm, okay. Mommy isn't crying," Qianqian said, her chubby little hand wiping away the tears that had accidentally fallen from her face.

He thought his words had upset his mom.

"Mommy, please don't be sad. We're being very good," Sanbao pleaded, his little face flushed with worry.

"Mommy isn't sad, Mommy is happy. It's tears of joy. Do you understand?" Xiong Miao said with a smile, trying to cheer up the children.

"It's late; you should be sleeping. Go to bed now, and Mommy will join you after her shower," Su Mumu interjected just in time.

Hearing this, the little ones, pulling their toy train, obediently went to their room.

Su Mumu helped them get settled and turned in for the night. When she returned to the living room, she found Xiong Miao sitting on the sofa, lost in thought.

Despite her usual carefree demeanor, Su Mumu could tell something was off. "Miaomiao, has someone been bothering you? Is it that creep, Director Su, again?"

"That Director Su hasn't even paid us for the ad yet, and he's already bullied you multiple times! I'm so mad, I'm going to call the police tomorrow and have him arrested!" Su Mumu fumed.

"It's not Director Su; it has nothing to do with him. I'm just exhausted from working overtime. I'm cold and tired; I'm going to take a shower. Please don't act rashly and call the police. If this blows up, I could lose my job," Xiong Miao reassured her before heading to the bathroom.

She was genuinely concerned that Su Mumu's impulsiveness might lead to an actual police report.

If things escalated with Su Hongyi and got out to the media, she wouldn't be able to keep her six little treasures a secret any longer.

And if Zhan Yeling discovered she had been hiding his child, there's no telling what horrific things he might do.

Just today, without any provocation, he had nearly choked her to death.

This was a man she dared not cross.
