C3 Let's Go to the Money-squandering!
Connor had been Sonia's childhood friend, a wealthy heir.
With a hint of caution in his voice, Connor asked, "Are you really sure about this?"
"I've never been more certain," Sonia replied, a smile playing at the corners of her mouth.
Naturally beautiful, her smile now seemed to chase away years of shadows.
Connor let out a sigh. "I was afraid you'd never figure it out. These past five years, I've been beside myself with worry. Why on earth did you fall for that jerk?"
Sonia tapped her chin thoughtfully. "How could I have been so foolish?"
"Thank goodness you came to your senses before it was too late. Another five years, and you'd be past your prime."
Connor teased her, "If you ever find yourself out on your ear, I'll be there to marry you."
Sonia just rolled her eyes in response.
"Here, this is the divorce agreement you asked me to draw up. Have a look."
Sonia skimmed the document. "I won't take a single thing from Toby Fuller. I owed him nothing before, and I'll owe him nothing now."
Without a second thought, she signed her name.
"You don't beat around the bush, do you?" Connor chuckled.
Pen in hand, Sonia arched an eyebrow. "We're off to the hospital."
"Alright then."
The hospital's top floor was a sanctuary for VIP patients. Sonia knocked on the door of room 1203, then pushed it open and walked in.
The woman on the bed looked frightened, cowering under the covers, her eyes brimming with tears.
Toby Fuller's face darkened. "What are you doing here?"
Sonia calmly presented the divorce agreement. "Sign this, and I'll be out of your hair for good."
Toby's expression grew colder. "You're asking for a divorce?"
"What else?" Sonia's touch was light as she brushed her hair back, her smile both warm and distant. "These last five years must have been tough. Sign it, and you're free, aren't you?"
Toby frowned deeply, wary of whatever game she was playing.
Just then, Khloe's weak voice called out from the bed, "Toby..."
It sounded like a cue.
Toby glanced at Khloe, then back at Sonia, his voice tight. "Let's discuss this at home. Don't make Khloe bothered."
"I mean it, Toby. My leaving could be the best thing for you two," Sonia insisted with a laugh.
"Sonia Reed!" Toby's voice was a mix of ice and steel, his patience at its end.
"Khloe is watching. Why don't you sign it? Does it mean that you you have fallen for me or something?"
Sonia's smile was both graceful and captivating.
Khloe looked up at Toby, her eyes filled with vulnerability. "Toby, what's the matter?"
Sonia watched Toby, her gaze cool and expectant.
"Fine, I'll sign it!" Toby's lips were a tight line, his face a mask of frost.
Satisfied, Sonia's smile broadened.
She took the signed divorce agreement from Toby and left with a swagger, no trace of regret.
But as soon as she stepped out of the room, tears betrayed her, streaming down her face.
Three years of secret affection, five years of marriage, eight years of love—all washed away.
The heart is, after all, made of flesh.
To say she wasn't heartbroken would be a lie.
It felt as though her heart was being pricked by the tip of a needle.
