C16 I will Do Everything for You
Zeyu's mom had a lovely, gentle voice: "Ha ha, if it weren't for this morning's events, I wouldn't have known where you were. Zeyu, you're getting more and more skilled at disappearing without a trace, making it hard for anyone to find you. But you should understand your mom's heart; I've always hoped you'd come back."
"My dear mother, you should understand that women shouldn't meddle in men's affairs. Besides, that's a long-standing rule in our family," Zeyu said with a smile. He always held deep respect and affection for his mother.
"You can use that excuse all you want! I know my son isn't heartless. I'm just worried about you from a mother's perspective, okay? And you're not getting any younger; it's time to settle down. The past is the past, and I don't care about it anymore."
"As for those things, you can't spend your whole life focused on them and ignore your own future, right? I've been down that road too. Our family doesn't care about arranged marriages or anything like that. I don't have strong feelings about it. Your future partner should be someone you truly like, someone good for you. I trust you won't make a bad choice..."
Zeyu's mother seemed to have endless things to say, a common trait for any mom concerned about her child's well-being.
"Mom, how can you know if she's good or not without even meeting her?" Zeyu raised an eyebrow, feeling quite relaxed as he spoke with his mother.
"Hey, what kind of question is that? You're marrying someone because you think she's right for you, not because you're marrying her to spend your life with me. Just like your dad and I, we've been together all these years because we both understood that we're the ones spending our lives together, and only we can bring warmth to each other. As for your wife, our daughter-in-law, I can only offer you some advice, but I can't interfere. Besides, my son is so outstanding; any girl you choose must be great. As long as she's good to you, truly likes you, and you like her, then I'm happy, and your dad won't have any objections either."
After her long speech, Zeyu rubbed his forehead. "Mom, you're not that young anymore, so maybe you could stop calling Dad 'Daddy'? He actually minds that nickname quite a bit."
Zeyu chatted with her for a few more moments before hanging up and letting Bing handle what needed to be done.
Meanwhile, Xinling, having made up her mind, quickly got dressed, grabbed her keys, and headed to the parking lot. She drove her very old car, accelerating all the way to her destination. Once there, she hurriedly bought the latest newspaper and made her way to the presidential suite she had left not long ago.
Standing at the door, staring at it tightly shut, her heart was in turmoil, a wave of inexplicable fear wrapping around it. She was afraid he wouldn't be there, afraid that once again she'd find no one home, and next time, she might not have the courage to speak her mind.
"Please, God, let him be home!" Ji Xinling took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
The urgent knocking made Nie Zeyu frown slightly as he pressed the remote to open the door. As it slowly swung open, Ji Xinling immediately saw Nie Zeyu sitting elegantly in the same spot as that morning.
