C2 A glint of admiration

Rosalie could swear she heard the wrong words but she didn't.

Her eyes widened and joy surged through her like a comet. Her heart fluttered when she digested his words again. He didn't fire her.

He gave her a chance to work. Her heart leaped for joy and a smile broke on her face.

"Yes sir" she chuckled when she found her tongue and she made to walk towards Alexander.

She barely took a foot when the hand grabbed her wrist. It was a painful grip and it caused her to whip her head to Sophia who held her down. Rosalie sucked in her lips at the look of contempt on her face.

Her jaw was tensed and her face was contorted in a frown, "you really think you would work here?" Sophia scoffed and turned to Alexander.

"Did you just say she can start working, Alex? This lady here just walked in on us. She didn't bother to knock and you think she should work with you?" She queried as her blood boiled.

"Yes." It was Alexander's reply and immediately, his gaze was casted to the set of files on his table. Sophia groaned and her teeth clenched together as she gazed at Alexander.

"Really? Just yes? You want her to work here? Can't you see—" Alexander cut her short when he raised his head.

"You were the one who took things out of hand in the office. She made a mistake to have entered the office without knocking but that isn't an issue."

At that word, Sophia shut her eyes tightly until more veins popped up on her forehead. Her grip around Rosalie tightened causing Rosalie to stifle her whimper.

Why wouldn't she let her go?

When Alexander didn't make out any sound, he raised his head and his brows creased into a frown when he saw the scene. Sophia started her usual troubles already, huh?

He scoffed when his orbs took in how she looked. Golly, Sophia! He cleared his throat and they turned to him, "now, she has to work. Let go of her, Sophia."

The grip on Rosalie's hand loosened immediately. Not because of his order but because of the way he called Sophia's name. There was one thing about his accent she loved.

Rosalie forced a smile and headed to Alexander. She straightened her collar and bit hard on her lips when she reached him. Starting from that moment, she had to do her best. He didn't make an issue out of her mistake and she was grateful.

"Here, start by arranging this" he handed her the files on the table and Rosalie nodded. "There's your office" he pointed at the glass door that was coffee colored and had silvery paintings in between them.

She nodded and grabbed the files in her hands. "Do that first and bring them here" Alexander ordered in his deep baritone voice that boomed across the office.

A tingling feeling bloomed through Rosalie's chest at his voice. She couldn't believe she was this close to him. It was a wish coming true.

They locked eyes for a moment but she tore her eyes away from him immediately. She didn't forget there was a third party. Or no, she was the third party.

She clutched tightly to the file, gave a small bow and trudged to her office carefully. She was sure not to disrupt the silence with the sound of her heels clicking against the floor.

She reached her office and as she pushed the door open, the sound of a high pitched hiss filled her ears. She knew where that sound came from but dared not turn.

With a deep breath, she stepped into her office. She wasn't surprised at how large the office was because she expected it. She wasn't only his secretary; she was also his PA.

He had employed her mainly to be his secretary and work partly as his PA.

Her eyes darted around her office and the walls had the same color she saw earlier; it was silver colored but now, it had brown colored linings in between them.

A large oak desk was at the left side of the office and a large potter plant was at the left. The office felt snug and it was delectable to the eyes.

And she was going to be working there!

A smile found it's way to her lips at the thought. Her eyes settled on the files in her hands and a gasp escaped her mouth. He said to rearrange this file and she was busy admiring the office.

She hastily settled on the chair and began with the files. She made sure it was all arranged because she didn't need him to be angry.

Amidst her work, she could hear faint sounds then after a moment, it was all silence. After about thirty minutes of working on the files, she was done.

Her eyes rescanned the files and when it was all good, her lips curled into a smile. She should go give it to him and maybe they'll have a proper boss to secretary conversation.

At that thought, her heart leaped. She'd be close to him and once again, get to hear his ethereal voice. Happiness streaked through her at the thought of it.

She was going crazy and she knew it. Thinking about her boss on the first day of work– definitely, something was wrong with her.

Well why not? She had always admired him from afar, from the first day she submitted her CV and applied for a job, she admired his suave elegance.

Despite his always cold and plain face, she found him alluring.

He was really —

The ringing of the office phone jerked her out of her thoughts. Her eyes dilated and her heart raced as she grabbed the phone.

"Will you take years to get that done?" His voice boomed into the telephone and it caused her throat to tighten.

"No…I'm…I'll be there" her voice was brittle and she hastily stood to her feet. She grabbed the files, straightened her skirt and hurried out of her office.

"So, you wouldn't have brought that unless I called?" He asked and it caused her to stop in her steps. "I'm sorry sir" her voice was a monotone before she got control of her legs and hurried to him.

"Here, sir" she dropped the files on his table and moved a step backwards from him. Alexander scoffed as he accessed her.

She was clad in a rosy t-shirt and a black pencil skirt that accentuated the curves she had. Her skin was tan and even with a glance, he could tell it was silky.

She sucked in her cheeks and he averted his gaze from her and scanned through the files she dropped on the table.

Satisfied, a smile found it's way to his lips. The smile made Rosalie's heart skip. She stifled her smile and directed her gaze somewhere else. His smile was too fascinating.

Her eyes darted around the office leaving her enraptured. The situation in the morning didn't let her notice the beautiful paintings. The office had a cream color that gleamed gold.

It looked like they sparkled. The rays from the window through the curtain that was rolled down added to the shine of the walls.

Two sectional couches was at the far side of the colossal pristine office. A huge pot plant that was beside the mahogany table at the far end added to the decorations.

Different computers were placed on the huge mahogany table.

There was also a glass door at the right but she couldn't understand what it was for. As her eyes moved around, she suddenly realized something.

Sophia had left!

How didn't she notice? Thank goodness, she didn't meet her there.

Alexander watched with raised brows how her lips formed into a thin line. As he watched her floored by the decorations in the office, he scoffed. Was she here to admire or work? He cleared his throat and she whipped her head back to him.

They locked eyes and he stared enraptured. Her lids were furnished with long lashes that housed glowing, cognac bright colored eyes.

Rosalie was quick to look away and scolded herself. "Did I…was it good sir?" She asked and he nodded.

"Yes" he stood up and her eyes widened as his burly structure towered above her. His muscles clung tightly to the shirt illustrating his sturdy biceps underneath.

"It was good Miss Jones," Alexander clicked his tongue and watched her like a predator examining his prey. "Welcome to spelldrink Mac's. I hope you do a good job in being my secretary" he took his hands forward in an attempt to shake her.

Rosalie stiffened for a while before she stretched out her hands and their hands entwined. As their hands met with heartwarming warmth, a smile made its way to Rosalie's lips at the feeling of his fingers on her palm.

Her hand fitted perfectly into his large hand which caused a flutter in her insides.

"Good, let's get to work" he settled on the chair and pointed at the large shelf of books Rosalie failed to notice. "Get file GH102."

Rosalie nodded and went to the shelf that housed a pile of books. She sighted the folder and hurried back to him.

"You'll be working on it today and —" he raised his head to her and made sure to lock eyes with her.

"You should be strictly professional Miss Jones, I don't tolerate any form of misconduct. And dismiss every thought of what you walked in on this morning" his voice was crispy and Rosalie muttered a "yes sir."

Of course, the morning's event was out of her head as soon as it came in. She dared not house such thoughts; she clearly embarrassed herself.

"Good, get to work."

Rosalie nodded and grabbed the folder. She gave a smile and turned to leave but his voice stopped her.

"Welcome once again to spelldrink Mac's, the best whiskey company."

"Thank you sir" Rosalie muttered and turned around.

As soon as she got to her table, her phone beeped and her eyes widened when she saw the text, "don't forget, we're hitting the bar tonight."
