"Where are you off to?" My wife, who'd just stirred awake, watched me with half-sleepy eyes that were also laced with curiosity.

"What do you mean, 'where am I off to?' What? Am I not allowed to leave the house I pay for anymore?" A little irritated, my words had some bite in them.

She rubbed her palms over her eyes and let out a huge yawn after trying to stifle it to no avail
