C6 Again!
Jee Ange bit her lip, recalling the relationship between Mrs. Qin and the Lan family, and decided to hold back. "I'm sorry, Miss Lan. I didn't know the rules."
"Go get me a glass of water," Lan Qingyue said leisurely, fiddling with her nails.
Jee Ange looked to Qin Xiao for help. He narrowed his eyes dangerously, already fed up with Lan Qingyue, but out of respect for their families' connection, he couldn't just kick her out.
Seeing Qin Xiao's reaction, Jee Ange had an idea. She went to get a glass of juice instead. Unexpectedly, Lan Qingyue pushed the glass away and started yelling, "I asked for water, and you bring me juice?! Are you deaf?"
"I thought..."
"You thought what? In the old days, you'd be a servant! You're not supposed to think or assume anything. Just listen to what your betters tell you! If Mr. and Mrs. Qin and Xiao don't correct you, then I will!" Lan Qingyue finally found an outlet for her frustration.
Feigning fear, Jee Ange replied, "I'm sorry, Miss Lan. I'll get you water right away. Would you like it hot or warm?"
Lan Qingyue snapped, "Of course, warm! Are you trying to burn me?!"
As Jee Ange reached for the juice-filled glass, her hand suddenly shook, and the entire glass of juice spilled over Lan Qingyue's head, dripping down her clothes.
The room fell silent.
Lan Qingyue had never been humiliated like this before.
"Mr. and Mrs. Qin, I'll be leaving now. I'll visit again another time." Lan Qingyue, thoroughly embarrassed, grabbed her bag to leave. Before stepping out, she paused and said, "Xiao, you should get rid of such a servant sooner rather than later!"
Only after the Qin family door closed did the room come back to life.
"Well done, Ange!" Mrs. Qin said with a smile, relieved that the annoying Lan Qingyue was finally gone.
Mr. Qin remained expressionless as he said to Jee Ange, "Come with me."
Jee Ange felt uneasy. Could it be that Mr. Qin and Miss Lan are in love, and she had said something wrong, offending his beloved?
Once the guest room door closed, Mr. Qin stared at Jee Ange intently, as if trying to see right through her.
Jee Ange stepped back nervously and said, "Mr. Qin, I'm sorry. I didn't know she was someone important to you, so I misspoke..."
"Now, you've misspoken," Mr. Qin suddenly smiled, though it was a rare expression for him, making it seem a bit cold.
Jee Ange was momentarily confused. "Huh?"
"You did well. You're part of the Qin family; there's no need to fear outsiders," Mr. Qin quickly resumed his usual demeanor, offering a faint compliment.
They stood so close that Jee Ange could almost hear her own heartbeat.
"Mr. Qin..." Jee Ange managed to say with difficulty.
Mr. Qin raised an eyebrow. "Yes?"
"Could you... maybe stand a little further away?" Jee Ange asked.
Mr. Qin was momentarily amused. Usually, women tried to get closer to him, but Jee Ange was asking him to back off?
He almost wanted to figure out what was going on in her head.
But Mr. Qin didn't have much time to understand what kind of person Jee Ange was or what she was thinking, as he was soon called back to his unit.
"Get that troublemaker Jee Ange out here!"
Jee Ange was mopping the floor in the hall when she heard a familiar commotion outside, causing her to instinctively shiver. She quickly dropped the mop and went out to see Jee Fusheng causing a scene at the gate.
The security guard, a former special forces soldier, wouldn't let Jee Fusheng in without orders from Mr. Qin or his parents.
Jee Fusheng had no other options but refused to leave, continuing to make a fuss at the entrance.
Even the neighbors came out to see what the commotion was about.
Ange was mortified and quickly approached Fusheng, whispering, "Didn't Mr. Qin already give you money last time? Why are you here again?"
"What, you're tired of your old man now?!" Fusheng shouted, "When I was raising you and paying for your education, you never seemed to mind!"
"Dad, that's not what I meant..."
"Get Qin Xiao out here! Why should my daughter work as a maid for him?" Fusheng demanded loudly.
The neighbors had started to gossip.
The Qin family lived in a neighborhood where everyone knew each other, and they had a good reputation. This spectacle was causing quite a stir, leaving people curious and some even amused.
"Dad, didn't we settle this last time? I work for him, and he gave you $15,000..." Ange felt both wronged and angry, but with onlookers around, she kept her voice low.
"I lost it. Tell him to give me another $20,000 to pay off my debts," Fusheng said as if it were the most natural thing.
For a moment, Ange was at a loss for words. After a pause, she finally asked, "Dad, what did you say?!"
Perhaps feeling a bit guilty, Fusheng's tone softened as he explained, "I thought with our family struggling and your sister still in college, I could gamble the money to make more, but it didn't turn out that way..."
Ange didn't need him to finish; she already understood.
