C6 Seduction at first sight
Her boldness had made me burn with rage, and my wolf had asked me to change, run through the woods and hunt her down. The man in me wanted to confront her, to send her to hell after asking her who had hired her. But I already knew. There was only one person capable of hiring a bounty hunter to come to our town: Scott fucking Smith.
I grabbed my keys and left the office to go find her at the Pinewood Inn. Mary had reluctantly told me where the hunter was staying and that she had borrowed the car from the garage. I opted to take my truck so I wouldn't risk running into anyone and being distracted by wondering why I looked ready to kill.
Mary's Firenze pulled up in front of the inn not long after me. She had parked further down the road and waited, taking advantage of the fact that I was arriving first.
Twenty-six years old, a native of Idaho, I had learned that the bounty hunter worked with her uncle, Spencer San . A drunk. A gambler. A half-baked bounty hunter who ran a business called Hunt Your Neighbor.Great name. I rolled my eyes. And he'd sent his niece to do his dirty work. Or she was the one most desperate for the bounty.
A woman. I shook my head in disbelief. A woman had hunted me. It wasn't that I didn't appreciate equality. I had seen firsthand what women could do. But the women I had seen used words, manipulation and emotional blackmail to succeed. Not their fists. And certainly not against a six-foot-four wolfskin, seasoned fighter who had lived over a hundred years. What chance did she have against me?
She found you.
Yes. She did. That made her dangerous. It also forced me to eliminate Scott Smith once and for all. I'd talk to the alliance about that soon. The bastard had been an irritating thorn in my side for too long.
But what am I going to do with her?
Lara got out of the car and closed the door behind her. She looked good. Too fucking good. Long dark hair fell down her back. The light gave her a hint of honey. And her body. Curve after curve, her ass wobbling as she walked, excited my traitorous member. But she had muscles too. I could see it in her shoulders and in her toned legs, revealed by her tight jeans as she walked toward the inn. My body reacted too quickly to the sight of her: my mouth craved to taste and suck on those breasts that jiggled as she walked.
For God's sake, calm down, Paul.
But she...
My wolf sat up and noticed, urging me to sniff the air. I rolled down the window and did so, but only because we needed her scent.
Damn bad decision.
Lara's scent tickled my nose, and my wolf howled. I wanted to howl. But I had long since learned to control my instincts when the wolf in me tried to take me over. Lust, such as I had never known, worked its way from my nose to my limbs, through my mind. Images of fucking her, those tits bouncing up and down, demanding more, raked my self-control.
No.
No and no.
I was tired, that was all. She smelled sweet. So what? She smelled of deeper promise. Who the fuck cared?
I didn't. I needed one, though.
Kearny
I would contact Kearny soon and get her out of my system.
I needed a plan. A plan to counter Lara and learn everything I knew about Scott, so I could turn him against the floor and eliminate him for good.
Yes.
That landed me.
A plan.
The bounty hunter would have no cell signal here, no towers in range. And the Fulham sisters, who maintained the main switchboard, would be ordered to monitor all outgoing calls from the inn and the two pay phones in town. Rose wouldn't mind. We would all join in here when necessary. They trusted me to keep the town safe, and I would keep it safe.
Mary could check to see if there were any tracking or GPS devices on Lara's truck while it was in the garage. That would cover the possibility of Lara being followed and Scott knowing the location of the town. Then I would head to the garage. Cover my bases. Make sure the town was safe and get my wolf away from that scent so I could calm down and not march in there to fuck the hunter senseless. Tired. Hot. That's all I was. That's all I was.
Lara disappeared into the inn, thank goodness. I tapped the steering wheel in frustration. The people came first, Paul I reminded myself. And I had to make sure my people were safe from any unwanted surprises.
Fighting hard against the urge to go in and drive her up against the wall while demanding her price, I took a breath. But control was my motivation, I didn't want the hunter to have the advantage over me, so I put the van in gear and sped out of there.
I pulled into Mary's garage to see Manala visiting and talk to Mark .
"Hi, guys," I greeted, "Is Mary there?"
"No," Manala spat , frowning. "Why do you ask?"
"I just want some information. And what are you doing here - don't you have a herd to run?"
"Fuck."
Manala , more relaxed now, took a chair Mary had nearby for the waiting customers. The garage didn't have enough room for an official waiting room, but it wasn't like he was swamped with work and needed one. She did, however, like to tinker and would order old cars to fix up and sell online to keep making a profit. It was something he admired about her.
She now had one car on the ramp, a '65 Mustang V8, partially restored. On the other ramp was what I assumed was Lara's truck , still on the ground.
I took the opportunity and rummaged through it to see if there was anything important before Mary showed up and gave me hell. I also checked around the van and found no GPS. Nothing suspicious.
"What are you up to?" Manala looked at me, pushing her blonde hair out of her eyes. He looked more like a beach regular, with his tanned skin and the vest and shorts combination that suited him. He certainly didn't look like the alpha of a wolf pack. Sometimes, I would risk punching him and calling him "duuuuuuuuude." But lately he wasn't amused, he'd give me a dirty look and walk away instead of sending me packing.
